Been good majority of season when available. Played today like he couldn't give a toss though.

Parting of the ways time for me end of season.

Would definitely look to improve but if he goes we're left with Kipre - who was just as bad today, if not worse - and Ajayi.  We desperately need a decent CH to come in.  For me, all of our problems start with the defence not being good enough.

Taylor will be here next season, whether CC likes it or not i imagine.

Well done, Kyle. Just one more defeat to go and you’ve achieved your aim.

It’s almost like he wants players around him to be making mistakes so he can start doing all that fake leadership, arms in the air guff.

Just waiting for the inevitable “West Bromwich Albion are delighted to announce Kyle Bartley has signed a new contract extension with the club”, as the club couldn’t be bothered to scout a replacement.

Yup. I actually saw a tweet on Twitter say we should keep Bartley for “his leadership” which is like saying we should keep Connor Townsend for his one-on-one defending,  Mvilla for his mobility and Jon Swift for his physicality/aggression.

He'll provide cover / experience or I'd keep him on reduced wages are others I've heard. They all need to be shown the door.

Good morning '95, '1983 and smethwickw.

You three read some weird and unusual timelines on X  ;D .
It doesn't matter how many resources you have.
If you don't know how to use them, they will never be enough.

No thanks. All well and good saying reduced terms, but what do they look like? He’s not going to accept less than £15k a week I imagine, which is still too much for and injury prone player who isn’t that great in any event save for a purple patch every once in a while

Same as with everything.  Hard to judge unless you know the future.  Would rather have another 12 months of Bartley than someone even worse.

I agree boinging_along, and of course if he doesnt accept our reduced offer the decision is therefore made by him to go

On his day one of the better CB's in this league , I'd be tempted to offer 12 months on a reduced deal but nothing more .
Saying that as I posted in the Ian Pearce thread its time for fresh ideas and younger legs . Bartley isn't going to get younger or less injury prone .

He has never been good enough, over the years he has had some patches of acceptable performances. He doesn’t have the requirements of the modern game to be able to play out from the back, his first touch is not great, he cannot see a pass in front of him and 90% of the time plays a short forward pass or back to the goal keeper
Could you imagine him making or even seeing the pass Kipre made to Wallace last week
No, neither can I, apart from getting older, being on high wages, he just doesn’t have the qualities we need

Thanks for the arm waving and pointing but at the end of the season

Goodbye

We'd still have Brunt and Morrison at the club if left to some supporters.  ;D

If he gets retained, then we can also expect the same under Patel under Lai.

Ignoring the whole wide world of talent and keeping on paying over the hill injury prone players wages which ch would get 2 overseas players will be shocking.

A bit dramatic?

What if it was a 1 year deal on halved wages with the role as a sub/cover? I would be ok with that he really isn't that bad.

You do know we're skint.

We cannot afford half his wages to sit on the bench or provide cover.

No one knows what the new owner will do or how much he will spend. Every year fans on here go into meltdown saying half the squad will be sold when it's typically one or two of the main players who actually leave.

You may have missed it, but FFP dictates what he spends.

If I am saying KB should be shown the door, how is that me having a meltdown about him leaving?

Time to move on for me. Although I wouldn't be against keeping him on reduced wages it would have to be more like a third than half.

Would he take £10k a week? I honestly don't know. Ultimately he's 33 next year and the championship isnt awash with money so I can't see him getting much more elsewhere. Pride at such a reduction might come in to it but he also might be realistic.

I know there are load of other factors and costs (plus other salaries) but if our revenue next year is going to be more like £24-25m and we spending 70% or so on playing staff wages that's a 16.8m wage budget and an average of £14,000 a week per player in a 23 man squad. A 33 year old who's playing time should be reducing needs to be on less than that (plus unless sold players like Wallace and Swift in particular will be on much more).

(deloitte published states a year ago stating average championship wages were 108% of revenue but they'll be distorted by clubs with parachute payments I'd imagine,  we can't afford that whilst paying our debts).

I thought Bartley was immense today and probably my motm. Let's hope we defend that well at St Mary's on Friday.
