I’m a little on the fence because I know so little about him, but I’m far happier than I thought I would be. Some of the options were horrendous.

It’s good to see hear Ken talk about the future I hope it’s not just What we want to hear. The comment on short term decisions seems an obvious dig at Dowling. I also wouldn’t read to much in to a four year deal either. I’d be amazed if there isn’t a clause which means if we are outside the play offs in the championship the deal he can be paid off for a set amount. On the flip side I imagine if a prem club wants him they can take him for a set amount so swings and roundabouts.

Interesting weeks ahead. I expect Mowatt to sign next.

Hungary winning.
France losing.
What has to happen for both the french and the germans to go crashing out?

The french can’t go out until the knock out stages

Interesting decision this and one I agree with.

Keepers get far too much protection and at times get away with far too much. Theissue is that there is no consistency.

I think as long as Hungary aren’t winning, Portugal can lose by 1 goal and still go through as a best placed third on 3 points.

That said, I still back France and Germany to win tonight

We’ll be away on Boxing Day at home New Years Day

Based on the Wolves fixtures that’s likely.

I also expect we will be away first game and home second. I think we could end up being the season opener on the Friday night.

Sounds like he's waiting for a journo to provide him with an update so he can update us all.  I don't get it. Why not just tweet and give the source?

He’s blocked me because I took the ****. It wasn’t even nasty, just made a comment along the lines of Luke Dowling never signing his name without checking in with him.

Absolutely everything he’s ever posted has been broken or been suggested elsewhere on the web first.  I use the website newsnow which pulls any story involving us anywhere on the net in to one place and there’s always a story pre-dating his ‘breaking news’.  Sometimes it’s from an obscure site though and he can be quite quick in tweeting my so I can see why sometimes people fall for it.

Just on this point since I was one of the offenders recently.....

Posting a link is safe. Copying and pasting the content is potentially breach of copy write.  In reality it isn't likely you'd see any action taken against the site but just because something is publically available on a website does not mean you are entitled to copy it.

We’ve troubled the three keepers we have faced so little that it has to be a concern. I remember very few saves over three games.

I bet if Sancho signs for United he’s almost instantly towards the top of the pecking order.

It’s genuinely unexplainable that Sancho is disregarded

Saka and Grealish are looking great. Shaw and Sterling good too.

Saka looks good, but I do still think with Sancho we would be better still at this point in time.

If we are going to defend our way to a tournament win, we need to do it better than we have these last 2 games. I worry 3 clean sheets will mask over a defence that has conceded a few too many chances.

Moving the ball better today.

It’s like watching the Albion under Bilic. Better players in advanced positions mean we control. You think we might score every three or four times we are in advanced positions but we look like conceding everytime they are!  I don’t think that’s just nerves  with me and team I support but it could be I guess.

Less than 5 mins in and Kane has already been in line with the back four twice. He needs to be instructed to stay forwards and trust his defence and midfield to do the job. Not that he should need that instruction.

Norwich sign Milot Rashica from Werder, seemingly out of nowhere. Villa tracked him for ages last season. Also rumoured to be in for Gilmour on loan to replace Skipp who is back at Spurs.

That’s what having a plan and executing it looks like.

If he goes from a 4 to a 3, just to go back to a 4 in the knock outs he’s an idiot. How does that give anyone a fair chance of making an impression to stay in the side if the role they audition in is going to change straight away.

To not start Sancho is criminal too if that happens. Some German media have suggested we must have the best squad in the world for him not to have played a single minute so far.

I’ll wait and see, but with his decisions Southgate is dropping in my estimations by the game.

They hugged him. Believe PHE have been consulted via the FA.

The SFA on the other hand are just leaving it up to the team doctors.

Some stories say it was much more and they were together in the tunnel together for around half an hour.

Let's be honest though, Gilmour has more than likely lied. He will have been asked if he's had close contact with anyone in the Scotland squad and he's obviously said no. Which is incomprehensible.

Talksport had someone on who’ve done some modelling (I think a bookies, I only tuned in part way through).  They had our chances of winning the tournament 2% higher if we win the group.

We just need to just matches in my opinion. Another stumble and the fans and media will only get more critical and I don’t think it will help us anyway.

I expect Germany will professionally see off Hungary but that does mean our progress or lack of will come down to France vs Portugal. Portugal will know what they need to do by the time they play but they will almost certainly need a point.

The french will probably want to avoid us but I’m fairly sure they would beat us if they Draw to Portugal. A winner in the game either way is better for us than any draw though.

Bring Mowatt at the Barnsley DoF down the M1 with you please Val.

You’d think Mowatt would be nailed on. I’d be looking at Marcondes too. Both good ages and both decent frees for the championship.

Ousmane Dembele out injured for the rest of the tournament for France too, after a decent performance vs Hungary.

He only played 25 minutes didn’t he? Sub sub.

Exactly. It’s a very strong claim to make.

A load of the players in the current squad could have represented another international team but chose still to play for England. Kane, Grealish, Rice could have all played for Ireland, Stirling, Phillips and a couple others could have played for Jamaica, Rashford St Kitts, Mings Barbados, Saka Nigeria and there are plenty more in and around the squad who could have played elsewhere (I heard one player could have represented New Zealand although I have t worked out who that was yet).

The fact they picked England does say something. It isn’t going to be as simple as being financially driven because the likes of Woodburn, Zaha, Musiala and now possibly Hudson-Odoi and Madueke chose to go elsewhere instead of waiting.

You might say they do it because they think they have a better chance of winning things with England, but in which case that shows a passion for international football after all.

It’s Chilwell who could have played for New Zealand.

I agree with everything you say. Look at our players when they sing the National Anthem then look at other countries passion, tears emotion everything we don't show. And i still think we should have our own a different N. A.

I think there is more to the anthem situation than can be aimed purely at players. In general it seems you are allowed to be proud Scottish, Welsh and Irish, yet you can’t be proud English. I think the apathy to the national anthem is something bred in wider culture.

Modern players might not be as bothered, it's hard to prove either way, but then that doesn't explain why other modern footballers playing for other nations do manage to get to finals and win things. If all modern footballers dont care as much, it should cancel each other out and isn't as much of a major factor when we face the bigger nations.

As for the second paragraph, you might be right, but as you say that isn't about passion, that's about ability, tactics, manager etc.

I’m with you on this one. I struggle to believe that elite players do not care or have desire to win. If not for the nation then for theirselves and their team mates who they’ve spend weeks with.

Lack of passion, effort or caring is the one of the first things thrown out when England do bad, not just in football but all sports, same with the Albion. In the Albions case it’s often worst because and people seem to think it’s easy going out and getting beat every week and chasing shadows for 90mins. It seems easier than accepting we aren’t good enough for some reason.

On the flip side if we are doing well you’ll hear a lot about how passionate the current group are like there’s perfect correlation between attitude and results.

It’s not to say some people won’t care or don’t put the effort in, but I think that will be the minority and I don’t think they’d survive long in the national team.

I think that red is harsh. It might be a UEFA rule but I’d be surprised if you don’t see one of those a game and they’ve not been acted on generally in this tournament. It’s no doubt a painful tackle but those type don’t usually lead to serious either. A booking would have been fair for me.
