Third time he's reffed us this season. All home games. 0-3 v the Vile with Livermore given a straight red and 0 v 4 against the Gunners. Here's hoping it's third time lucky for us  :-X .

It doesn't matter how many resources you have.
If you don't know how to use them, they will never be enough.
Oh, and always remember to defecate on those Vile chaps in claret and spew.

Oh great, Mr. Bean!

Banksey on VAR, He can paint a picture, just hope the image doesn't self destruct half way through his, "is it a penalty", musings.

This is a really biggie. A few strikers out for Newcastle. Bruce has had a bust up with Matt Ritchie.

I think it's the perfect game to play after the Everton defeat. Newcastle are wobbling and have an injury problem. Bruce's tactics are predictable and we have some momentum. If we can score first we can go on to win comfortably.

That was the problem last night and we nearly came unstuck against Brighton after we scored first.
We need to score first and then dictate the game, no trying to settle for a 1-0.

Whilst looking much better in recent games, when the inus has been on us to have the ball, we haven't created loads of chances. I expect Newcastle will come to protect the clean sheet and look to counter us so we will have to be inventive.

I would be tempted to get someone nearer to and running off of Diagne, who's hold up play has been good. I think I'd give Grant or Robinson that chance playing sort of advanced on the left with a little more attacking licence.

Spot on.
Robinson or Grant should start with Snodgrass, so Pereira can play behind Diagne.
Robinson was decent against Sheffield United, don't know why he was dropped after that.
It's a must win game, we need Pereira to create chances.

wow if Sheff Utd beat Southampton we'll be starting against the Toon as the bottom club.
How did that happen?

So is this the must win game? If we play anywhere near Thursday's performance could see a comfortable victory by more than one goal. Only change I'd make is Snodgrass in for Phillips with Robert on right side of three, Gallagher Central and AMN on left side leaving Pereira in no 10 role his best  position to influence game.

I fancy us for a comfortable win for the first time this season, 3-0. BUT I still think we'll go down as its too much of an ask with the games remaining.

I'm wandering whether Pereira is suited to our current style of play especially when out on the wing.  He's clearly not going to pick up any high balls unless he plays closer to Diagne's knock downs - and he didn't manage any against Brighton's Dunk.
Pereira's a great talent but objectively he's gone right off the boil because he's not right for SA's style.  My team would be:-

                                                 Johnstone

                        Semi               Bartley                     O'Shea

Furlong            Gallagher          Yokuslu              Snodgrass     Townsend

                                                            Robinson

                           Diagne

With three centre backs surely one of them will be able to pick up Gayle.  Last time we played, Murphy was left with loads of time to pick him out.

Pereira has to play in his bets position or not start at all for me. If we are not playing one behind the striker then put a proper wide man in his place.

I’m not sure we’re good enough to put consistently good performances together. Poor teams often oscillate a lot. But let’s hope we can.

Obviously the last chance saloon door slammed shut a few weeks ago - we’d  probably need 20 points from 11 games. Even a top four team would be happy with that. And clearly we are miles away from being a top four team. So it’s not really a “must-win” game - the time for that has long gone.

I’m hoping we get some victories and decent displays, put a few points on the board (hopefully get past the 20s) and have some feelgood momentum going into next season.

It will be a very hard grind to get back next season, and we need to get as many good things as we can out of the last 11 games. And if we do, I would much prefer Allardyce’s chances of taking us straight back up (if he fancies the task) than hiring a less-experienced candidate in a dangerous gamble.

We went past the point of "must win" some weeks ago. This is absolutely the last chance saloon a draw is useless if we can't beat this Newcastle team with all their problems then there is no chance of us picking up anywhere near the points required elsewhere there probably isn't anyway but failure to win is the coffin lid nailed down.

Newcastle will take the draw they probably shouldn't but a draw from their perspective means they will finish above us and it closes out the bottom two spots and leaves them in a race with Fulham.

I suspect that leaves us playing deep sitting block v deep sitting block. Pereira might be the difference but it will be 0:0 1:0 or  0:1. A 1:1 should be viewed as a goal fest.

We've got to win this, simple as.

If we do we have the faintest chance of survival but more importantly we can't afford to lose this new momentum if the team are to start positively in the Chumps.
