It was interesting is as much as you got to see how much of a challenge It will be to defeat this very tough French side.

Perfect counter attacking team.

Need Spain to finish second in their group, meaning the French have Spain and one of Belgium/Italy/Dutch before reaching the final.

VAR working well so far this tournament in the decisions it has over ruled.

Mbappe is so, so good.

A German-Scottish journo I follow has said that Germany look a lot better when they miss Toni Kroos out of their breaks. It does illustrate that if you plan to play counter attack in international football, where you have less time to drill and mould the players to your ways, it can be difficult to fit in "foot on the ball" playmakers - even those ad brilliant as Kroos.

That's possibly why Southgate is still not sold on Grealish.

Interesting bit here about goalkeeper passing stats. Many on here will be like me, caring a lot more about how a goalkeeper copes between the sticks, but this stuff is gaining more traction now and is a consideration for the top clubs.

Sam Doesn’t come out of it too well which might hurt him.

Twitter rumours of Pulis coming back. It is Twitter and they are just rumours, but I still shuddered.

Dean Henderson has gone home injured, replaced by Ramsdale. Pickford has been useful for England but if he gets CoVID or injured then we are down to Sam and Aaron. While both have a connection with our club, neither are top level.

Yes, 100%. Most clubs in England havr bought into the European model. Helps have a longer term strategy

I'm feeling really flat about the Albion this morning. The move away from the tech director model is a step backwards - 17/18 of the 20 prem clubs now have one. Instead we are being run by people who now have no idea about the football side of the business.

No manager, no football director and for me, an expectation that we will be spending the next 4 or 5 years in the championship.

Stephen Hopcroft, now of Villa’s academy has just tweeted a picture of Dowling captioned “chaos reigns”, saying “this should have been the headline the day he was appointed”.

Safe to say a lot of people are happy to see him go.

No evidence of that. He loves to fire people. Just as he kicked Williams and Hammond out, now it is Dowling. What makes you think Lai will be hands on? He's never even in the country.

It's purely my reading of the situation following the goings on of the last few weeks and the statement tonight. It seems Dowling kept trying to push through Wilder against Leo's wishes. Next thing we know, Dowling is gone and the club are announcing a review of how we do our football operations.

I'd say that means Lai is considering doing away with the technical director role and instead having his people make the key decisions and his people only.

We will see.

It does make me think back to the old BBC MOTD adverts where Shearer is quoted as saying "and analysis from our team of Football experts".

Having somebody in the commentary box who is a successful manager and who has to make in-game decisions week in week out, telling you how she is reading the game, is what I call a football expert. Not just an ex player giving banal one liners.

I'd day that the statement this evening strongly suggests we will move away from the technical director model, atleast in the shirt term. Talk of reviewing however structure our football operation. Lai wants more say and hands on control of how things are done. Will be a disaster based on the lack of football nous they have shown so far.

I did say Yanited wouldn't be paying £8 million for a back up keeper...

If Romero gets his move like he is angling for, then they will still need a second choice goal keeper. Heaton is purely third choice at the moment.

I thought I heard booing, what a joke. After all the **** they give us as well, they are more like us than they care to admit 😁

Fully expect Alex Neil to be named boss on Friday during the England v Scotland game now   :-X

I think you might be right. That text bouncing around just prior to Wagner looking nailed on said Dowling had offered his resignation and that Neil was in the shortlist.

Fully expect he will be hired now in lieu of us having anyone else to make decisions.

Clarke has absolutely threw that game - they needed to win this and theyve fluffed it.

Patterson, Gilmour, Adams, Forrest all should have started that.

It was weird wasn’t it. Lined up with a conservative 11 but then tried to attack the Czechs who picked them off. His team selection didn’t match the strategy. Odd.

I don't see how this is bad timing, it's perfect timing surely?
We can now look to bring in a cohesive team to prepare for the new era. I thought that's what everyone wanted?

Ideally a technical director is the one who draws up the blueprint of what type of manager we need, but I doubt they will be in place to hire some body that fits their vision.

We are now deep into planning for next season and have no manager or tech director. It isn’t ideal.

Wouldn't be surprised if that's the end of the DOF model. Let's be honest it's been a total disaster since Ashworth left.

Most of the successful clubs in the last few years have had one though. It’s a bit like us saying “out head coach hIres have been **** recently so let’s do away with the role and let the players pick themselves”.

We just need to get the right one.

Nearly a great goal by Forrest, always wanted to see him play in England.

No surprise, felt inevitable. Awful timing but there has been a breakdown of trust there.

Hope a new man is lined up quickly.

Cracking goal there to make it 2-0, but awful goalkeeping as well.

The Czechs go top, which actually suits us in a way. Hope the beat the Croats too.

As for Arnautovic, his name in a few different languages in that region means...”Albanian”. It was Alaba’s reaction that was the eye opening one - have a look at the pictures, full on two hands around his throat  :o

Can’t believe the Arnautovic stuff has been confirmed, with the player apologising.

For those who missed it, when Arnautovic scored, he went mad, screaming at the N. Macedonia players. He only stopped once he realised his captain David Alaba had both of his hands around his throat and getting him to stop (Alaba gave him a him a bit of a hug once he stopped screaming). Turns out, Arnautovic went on a bit of an anti Albanian racist rant at the Macedonia players so I’d imagine his tournament might end up being over.

What a stupid thing to do after scoring a goal.

Tierney out injured, shame for them although Liam Cooper isn’t a bad replacement.

No Billy Gilmour despite a Jack Grealish-lite style clamour in Scotland. I hope we get to see him today, although a midfield 3 of McTominay, McGinn and Armstrong is probably as strong as most elevens outside the top nations will have this tournament.

Should be a good game. The fact I have a Sparta Prague shirt on right now is entirely coincidental 😆😁

If it's true that Appleton has turned us down then we are in trouble as clearly the job just isn't attractive to prospective managers. Bit of a mess and it feels this is created by the board and Lai pulling in different directions for too long.
