Post by: Jimbo Baggy on July 30, 2013, 08:42:02 PM
I wanted to get a fans response, if we ever sold the club, how much would be a realistic figure ?

No idea to be honest. What have similar clubs like Blues been sold for?

Don't think it has any bearing. We run without debt which raises the value of the club.

Over £100m, we have no debt (ignore the 'paper debt'), we own our ground, training ground the lot. Only stumbling block would be if the seller was prepared to sell everything, lock, stock and barrel or whether certain parts would split up and be kept for future income streams (ie: the ground)

What did Fulham just get sold for?was it £150 million?

If Fulham got sold for £150 we would sell for less then them considering were they are in london and how much the land craven cottage would be worth

£80-£100 million id say

Its a silly question.

"We", the club, would get nothing at all from a sale as the sale proceeds go to the seller. The seller would be Jeremy Peace, as shareholder (or more correctly the intermediate holding company, owned by him).  A club cannot sell itself.

I was wondering the same thing a while ago and came across this report on   www.sportingintelligence.com

Titled: "From man utd at 1bn to wigan at 42m whats your club really worth"

According to that report we are 8th most valuable club at £126.9m which means, I guess, that there are better bargains to be had!!

Funny how that also reflects our last league position! I wonder if there is a correlation?

The piece was put together in March but I would say at this moment in time a fair ranking would be 8th-12th.

To be fair to JP, he has got us into this healthy position as a club. Perhaps he's done too well and as a result our current value may put potential buyers off.

Thanks for the link I have downloaded the paper that the article summarises it is heavy duty piece of work which I have just glanced at. The  guy who wrote it is a leading sports finance guru at PWC and has a Doctorate from Henley Management School.

The only club that has been sold since the paper was published was Fulham who were sold 50% more than his estimated value. The methodology combines a revenue multiplier and factors various measures of operational efficiency which I guess give us a fairly high current value relative to clubs like Villa whose revenues are greater than ours but score lower on his measures of operational efficiency.

From a potential buyers perspective it would be better to buy Sunderland, Villa or Everton because there would be very obvious paths to growing the clubs value whereas that is not the case with Albion.
