West Bromwich Albion FC / Re: Atmosphere at Home Games
« on: April 08, 2024, 07:00:26 PM »
So removing it will get them through?
I got season tickets (again) for my two, they can’t get to every game because the midweek late kick offs are too late for kids that are aged 9 and 6 ….however if we are really saying that the atmosphere is reliant on under 14’s then we really do have a problem don’t we ?

Has anyone considered that the measures to make Football grounds a “nice environment” has actually neutralised the atmosphere ?
The Leeds, blues and particularly the dingles games were really good for atmosphere…anybody think it is literally down to the fact that the gloves were off?, play the liquidator, chant at the opposition fans wind each other up….
Today away at Stoke, a really good atmosphere in the away end…and once they had scored they added to it …lots of chanting, noise and general banter…..maybe not so many people texting the number on the big screen in case some naughty person had said something that makes poor didums upset because they wanted to identify has a cross dressing giraffe …..

Maybe just maybe the do-Gooders have eroded the fun ?

No that wasn't what I was getting at. I meant that these cheap season tickets for kids are contributing to there being lots of empty seats at 'sold out' games as they aren't always being used.

Our fanbase is one of the oldest, so something needs to be done to get the youngs one in.

It's not getting them in though. For example, last season my brother renewed my nieces season ticket at £23 without renewing his own, as it was only £3 more than buying a membership, I believe. The ticket never got used once. I'm sure this isn't a one off. I agree the younger generation needs encouraging but these season tickets are too cheap. Maybe up them to £50 a season ticket and throw a couple of kids for a quid games in throughout the season? If we do somehow go up they might get scrapped altogether anyway.

On paper a game we should win but unfortunately we don’t play on paper, haven’t had a decent 90 minute performance since Plymouth away. Carlos needs to let go of handbrake for this one play Fellow’s, Grady in the hole behind Brandon with Mikey on left wing. Think I would freshen up midfield by giving Yann and Adam a run out at the expense of Okay and Mowatt.

I thought we were awful first half of that game then blew them away second half. Can't remember the last good full 90 myself, there's been very good halves and 30 minutes spells, but a full 90 not so sure.

Must win Wednesday, I hope we come racing out the blocks and go in 3-0 at half time but this is Albion.

Chelsea won 4-2 in the end. Question to you all, do you class the league Cup as a major honour. As ITV said the last team to win a major honour was Coventry City in 1987 whether that was FA Cup honours, I don't know but then they mentioned Birmingham City Ladies in 2012, now I might be wrong but they didn't mention Birmingham City winning the League Cup in 2011 if they are on about Wembley apparences which was mentioned then Blues won the last major honour in Midlands Men's football in 2011. As I don't think Blues ladies won the FA Cup In 2012 at Wembley

It's a major honour, yes. Just doesn't carry the same weight as the FA Cup.

I've got no love for Leeds or Ipswich but I'd be howling if Leicester bottle this  ;D

Incredible turnaround. Good job we weren't playing a good team as it would have been over at half time

Swift and Asante need to come on for Weimann and Diangana for me.

The premier league was a pipe dream until Sir Gary came along. The foundations and stability that came up until recent years would never have happened without this man. An absolute legend.

Reach played well when he came on
Hit the post with a great effort
But hey we love a scape goat at the albion don't we

I'm far from his biggest fan, but yes he did well today. Can understand people moaning about him when he is awful but can't complain about him today

Pretty happy with that. We weren't at our best and their goal was awful from our point of view, but a good point away against a decent team. Big game Friday now.

Not too disheartened. Had a couple of chances first half then our lack of forward options showed with the subs second half. Wrap the first team in cotton wool ready for Blackburn and hope the kids/squad players can see Aldershot off.

Maybe I am looking into it too much but I think he will be called up to the Ghana AFCON squad.

Why else would both player and country go through all the relevant paperwork in time for this tournament.

Good luck to him if he does, but wow this will leave us short!

I can't see him getting called up myself. The Ayew brothers, Semenyo, Williams from Bilbao etc all better players. Unless there's injuries I don't know about I can see him staying here which will benefit all.

Disappointed but a point isn't the end of the world. Total fluke for their goal and their keeper got motm so perhaps we were a tad unlucky. We lack quality up front and it shows in these type of games.
Wallace our motm for me.
Onto Boro.

It's largely down to not having the disposable income why I rarely frequent the hawthorns these days. I still watch every game on my £50 a year firestick app, but won't be going to a huge amount of games anytime soon. I've only been to Plymouth at home so far this season, so based on that game I'll stay away so we can all enjoy it  ;)

Molumby has vastly improved under CC as has Phillips, I'd even go so far as to say Furlong has too, although I still don't think he is good enough.

Back to Okay I think he will come good again. He's shown a couple of glimpses of class, but has looked shaky so far. Once we get settled I'm sure he'll be back to his best.

I like his enthusiasm but don't think he's anywhere near good enough. But then again what can you expect for £300k?

If there is one criticism it is that he seems to have missed some really straight forward goals, but hopefully they are just aberrations because it is obvious he has quality. I think he could also get a little fitter. For the price we paid though, he has already paid us back in spades. This was a great get and I love his work at times with his back to the goal, has created a number of opportunities

Would be nice to see him get a couple of poachers goals but I'm loving the worldies

« on: November 02, 2022, 09:37:39 AM »
Agreed, if he has to be in the team, then its ONLY on the left, but with Wallace and Grady also in the squad theres little chance. Never looks like a centre forward, and I fear he never will. Would definitely like to see us play 2 up top though.

I'd rather see us get a few clean sheets and build on that, than open ourselves up by playing two up top. As for Grant he needs dropping, not being given someone to do the donkey work for him.

How badly were Sunderland doing when Roy Keane took them up?

The main problem for us is time - too many games have gone to make it viable.

Lost first 4, beat us (shock horror) then Keane took over. Not comparable to us now, we're far too many games I to the season

Would anyone consider this lump on Tuesday? Agreed with all the sentiment regarding this player, but you know new manger and all that, would CC even try it? Can he be any worse than Grant?

He couldn't do any less than Grant. I'd rather throw Asante and Cleary in myself. I'd have thrown Faal in before Zohore, but that option has gone.

Whilst I am a very infrequent visitor to the Hawthorns these days I don't agree with any of this. No thanks.

And on another note - the MET police are a joke. A totally incompetent outfit. Supporters were still being contained outside the ground an hour after kick off. They are solely responsible for the crush they caused yesterday.

Chesney told me he had a moan at one of them about the treatment and got told to "fcuk off you ginger cnut" It's amazing what the police can get away with at the football still

I don’t know what you do for a living, but let’s pretend you run a vegetarian food shop, then I come along and offer 16m for you to run my abattoir, I assume you would accept….is that my fault or yours?
Why doesn’t Slav the great get the flak for ignoring Toney who was a centre forward available for much less, rather than grant who has never once said he wants to be a CF.

It's not that he is playing out of position, if indeed he actually has a position, it's that he offers absolutely nothing. At least with Asante what he lacks in quality he makes up for in effort, with Grant we get neither quality nor effort. A Blues pal pointed it out that he did nothing against them, I was like mate that's par for him. Oh well, only another 3 and a half years of laziness until we give him a contract extension  :-\

Averaged around 13k that season and 16k the next. Much more impressive than it sounds given how poor attendances were all over the country back then.

Yeah our crowds were pretty good then. I seem to remember us taking thousands away too, doubling clubs attendances in some cases.

The Stoke game that 92/93 season is the biggest crowd I've been in for a league game at the Hawthorns, the Everton fa cup game being the biggest overall.
