Watched a classic oyutube highlights video.

Obviously you can't base everything off it but it does look liek the kind of player we are depserate for. Gets stuck in, knows how to tackle and be aggressive and able to pass forward.

Will add a lot to centre mid which is a huge weak spot for us.

Also just watched a youtube video from 4 months ago.

Big, strong, athletic, doesnt shirk a tackle. Looks like can play a bit too.

Hopefully we can get him in.

Weâ€™ve gone nearly three or four years without a true defensive midfielder who can shield our back four. His signing is long overdue.

Interesting to see how he understands the importance of focusing on putting himself between his opponent and the ball. He looks like an intelligent and skillful player.

Going by this video, he looks like an excellent, all-round, strong central midfielder who is much better than anyone we have in that position, so we should pull all the stops out to bring him in.

I am genuinely torn here. While I can see the apparent need for the player it is tactically disappointing that we can't manage to defend without someone in the Cattermole role. As an offensive unit we have to get more from the player at the base of the midfield than just a screen. They have to be able to progress the ball either by passing or dribbling. Modern central midfields are blurring the distinction between offensive and defensive everybody is expected to pass and tackle (or more accurately close down players and shut off passing lanes),

Hopefully Oaky brings a decent passing game with him

From what I have seen and heard he is a significant upgrade on the one trick ponies of the Cattermoles of the world. Heâ€™s been described as athletic, good on the ball, reads the game to time his interceptions. Based on that alone he is an upgrade on anything we currently have.

Perhaps, and this is a big perhaps, Sawyers can be the man to transition the defence to attack with a better player next to him. I hope it's Gallagher who starts with him but this talk of Maitland Niles favouring us because of playing in central midfield throws the cat amongst the pigeons with our CM choices.

I used to like a midfield enforcer B Robson L Cantello type get them tackles in they're not quite the same in today's football.
