Do Southampton need a playmaker at all? They just sold Ings to Villa. I'm clutching at straws here, we can't seriously accept £17m

Just signed Danny Ings out the blue

@FabrizioRomano
Done deal. Danny Ings joins Aston Villa from Southampton, total agreement reached as official announcement confirm. Red circleFlag of England #AVFC #Ings

Head Coach Dean Smith said: “Danny is an outstanding Premier League footballer who has scored goals wherever he has played”."

Problem now is why would MP go to any PL team even if someone offered £30m to us tommorow? His wage at Al-Halil or whatever is rumoured to be between 130-150k per week AFTER TAX.  A PL club would have to offer him £250k per week to get it near it. His motivation is money which he has been honest about so why go to (WHU for example) now on say 70k per week when he wont be able to help his family in Brazil?

Seriously don't want to get into a long discussion on this, but I assume he meant his greater family, Siblings, Parents, Grandparents etc.

Despite it's romantic image, you're probably aware that many Brazilian families live very impoverished lives.

The money he earned would give him the chance to help his own family & others.

During the lockdown last year he posted videos of him doing shooting practice in his back garden in England. His gaff didn't look anything special, so he might already be sending money back.

I believe a number of players who earn huge sums donate to charitable organisations, so, personally, I'm not ready to condemn just yet

I know how impoverished their lives are and i completely understand his desire to help them. The cost of living is extremely low there though so relatively insignificant sums to MP even now would indeed be life changing to his family over there. Of course i don't know what lifestyle MP has committed himself too here, it's not my business but if he took out a few grand a week from his money he would change their lives more than we could imagine and i hope he does.

When you read the fees being asked in today's transfer market, £17 million is a complete joke. Just see how much we get quoted when we try to bring in some half decent replacement(s).  I wonder what Jeremy Peace would have made of it.

Weak and ineffective ownership, they have cost themselves and the club sadly millions and millions with one disastrous call after another.

What kind of player is Adam Armstrong?  Would he suit our system as our out and out CF if we went for him? I believe Blackburn are looking for £12m (hoping for £15m but know they wont get it)

Was just looking at EFL top scorers last season and with Pukki and Toney in the PL he was far and away the guy with the best record. Now we got £8.5m heading into the transfer chest from the Pereira sale i'd like to see us go for a CF so just thinking out loud who realistically could we get?

Romano just said MP is not done yet but close to completion. Personal terms agreed weeks back as we know. MP desparate to get deal done.

His statement worked to perfection.

He says it gives him a chance to help his greater family in Brazil. At the moment, I'm prepared to give him the benefit of the doubt.

Must be currentlly spunking a lot of his money up the wall if he can't help his family in Brazil on 30k per week.

If the clubs do agree on the £17m fee at least it should move quickly as we know he agreed personal terms a few weeks back

Good old Albion - cheap as chips.

Not confirmed by Percy etc yet but people are saying he's due to fly over for a medical.

Yeah it's over Twitter that it's a done deal at 20m euros paid in 2 x 10m Euro installments. Awful deal if true.

they've already spent £60-65 million on 2 players (plus Ashley Young). If it’s to the quality of their previous purchases when they’ve played without Grealish, they just might not get relegated… might.

They are in for Tammy Abraham and JWP next i think, they will be fine

I do like the look of Gardner-Hickman. He seemed well up for it in the friendlies.

Don't think Villa were going to turn that sort of money down. Will be interesting to see the meltdown ;D

Good deal for them really. I see they have signed Leon Bailey today for 30m i think so not letting it burn a hole in their pockets.

The worst decision throughout all the SJ and MP business was the decision not to accept the slightly lower, revised offer from Crystal Palace for Ferguson when they discovered his knee injury. The people in charge were not wise enough to be playing hardball. Saying that if we had took the money it would have gone into last years budget and we all know how well that went.

Athletic article says SJ in talks over new contract with a get out clause that kicks in if we don't get promoted. Sensible.

VI comments about MP from todays presser

https://www.expressandstar.com/sport/football/west-bromwich-albion/2021/08/03/valerien-ismael-warns-matheus-pereira-no-player-is-bigger-than-west-brom/

"Asked for his reaction to Pereira's statement, Ismael said: "He has made a stand – that is clear.

"But my reaction is that I am focused on Bournemouth, on the squad and the players that are ready to be here and ready to invest everything, to work hard, (to be) committed to the club.

"The only thing I can say is that no player is bigger than the club, or West Brom.

"And the player needs to understand this.

"The club is always bigger and what counts is we have a lot of players with the desire to play and have a big season.

"I have to make my decision, what is best for the club and the team.

"We move on, the most important thing is to stay focused on the players that are here, and the feeling we got after the Birmingham game – after five weeks of hard work – that is the most important thing.

"The club, West Brom, the team is always bigger than one player.""

Is his value going to be reducing because of his tantrum? I suspect not!

Of course this kind of behaviour is wholly unbecoming for an England captain, so he should be stripped of that immediately.

Agree with you there. Disgusting behaviour.
