Let me guess. FIFA 22 is now on discount and the club has finally decided to buy it.

Guys, I’m not sure if I’m breaking any forum rules here but I just watched this on YouTube and want to share it. Maybe others can also share classic match videos too.

Enjoy.

The fact that he’s chosen to join a club in the Saudi league should speak volumes. What a fantastic player who could play in any league, but decides he would rather take the extra money in an anonymous competition.

Fair play to Kenneth if they get this over the line.

(if anybody has seen peep show you'll understand why I've called him Kenneth)

It’s like a leg of lamb.

Whilst there’s still 18th place (and more money) to play for, I’d expect them to keep things quiet if he’s leaving.

So the only way we could stay up is if Brighton didn't win ANYMORE games?

Dear me.

People are just being realistic now. Let’s be honest, if Brighton were frozen in time with their current 21 points and -6 goal difference, how many of us would bet their house double or nothing on us overtaking them with 17 games to go? I certainly wouldn’t.

Pretty happy with this. Good age range, loan deal so we can run the rule over him before committing. Used to the rigours of English football His scoring record in the champ in perfectly respectable despite what some on here say. Its exactly the sort of deal we should be pursuing.

The howling from some of the younger supporters just because his FIFA rating isn't like Messi's is ridiculous.

Ok, boomer. 😂 A solid signing, hopefully more to come.

« on: August 24, 2019, 12:15:28 PM »
I think that we have been spoiled by Ben Foster. He's head and shoulders above any other keeper I can remember at the Albion  in the past 40 years and Johnstone is always going to have a hard time living up to that. It's not just the shot-stopping but moreso the command of area and defense organisation that we clearly missed when he went.

Johnstone is probably a "top half of championship" goalkeeper though. Not the best and not the worst. On the basis that we need to be pushing for automatic promotion this season, the goalkeeping position is, aside from another striker, the place where we should strengthen in January if a) the right player is available and b) we have any money to spend.

You're right. It is a kick in the teeth. This has happened with Barry, Brown, Dhandra and others.

However. We're a community club. We have deep roots in the surrounding area. I would be very sad if we were to drop our interest in the academy for these reasons.  Sometimes (for me) it's not about the money, but about doing the right thing.

An observation I make frequently; what exactly have these poached players gone in to achieve? The only ones doing well are players that we decided to let go (Wood, Roofe, Roberts) after they hit a certain age

Good point with regards to the community aspect. I hadn't considered that due to my red mist descending!

https://www.expressandstar.com/sport/football/west-bromwich-albion/2019/07/05/england-youth-striker-louie-barry-rejects-contract-and-leaves-west-brom/

16 year old England wonderkid Louie Barry has rejected his three-year contract offer and left the Baggies after being in the academy since the age of 6.

Barry first rose to prominence last year when he scored 10 goals in five games for England Under-15s at a tournament in Italy. He also won the golden boot in November at the Val-de-Marne tournament which England Under-16s won.

This is clearly a massive kick in the knackers and makes me wonder why we bother to even continue to have an academy. I guess it must turn a modest profit from players sold because we sure can't keep anyone of decent quality in our team.

General Football & Sports / Re: Craig Dawson
« on: June 20, 2019, 11:12:32 PM »
During his time at The Hawthorns, WBA have consistently been better with Craig Dawson in the team than when he’s been out of it. I think that the criticism he receives here is unwarranted and uncalled for. If we had Messi, there would still be some ‘fans’ that would find something to criticise him for. Sad really.

Dawson has been an excellent centre back for us up until the point where he didn't get his move. The past season he's dropped in form and clearly doesn't want to be here anymore which is why we should replace him.

A less mature poster would consider your comments around "fans and messi" ignorant and petty but I'll just leave that to the moderators to pull you up on.

Dwight Gayle is a terrific goal scorer of that there is absolutely no doubt. Ultimately it will come down to how Bilic wants to set his side up.

What Gayle did show though is that he scored those goals on scraps. How well would he fair in a team capable of keeping the ball and creating chances? Or just attacking with purpose?

More of a concern for me is the lack of goals from elsewhere last season. Strengthening the three behind the striker and utilising the loan market for a striker may well be how Bilic will want to do things.

BUT if you go and pay one player X amount how good is that for the dressing room? That's why I'd be so reluctant to sign Gayle.

All football clubs have a vast spread of wages and seem to manage the dressing room ok. Another poster above has mentioned that there are 9 other 20+ goals per year strikers, however I'd guess that they are going to cost somewhere in the region of £10 million to buy.

« on: June 15, 2019, 11:10:26 AM »
I broadly agree with this, I only hesitate because of the scale of the task and on an indivdual basis there is a level of talent  that is going to be difficult for us to match as a Championship club. For instance Gibbs is almost certainly entering his post peak years as a full back but I struggle to see us recruiting a comprable talent in the Championship. Even without departures it is easy to identify 5 positions that we need to recruit for and there comes a point where intergrating a dozen or more players will swallow the season.

First off, thanks for your previous post- really informative and must have taken you some time. Appreciated.

There is clearly a massive overhaul required due to several very poor transfer windows with respect to permanent players. Bilic will need to identify new players quickly, be backed by the club and then convince them to move promptly if we are serious about making a push for promotion this season. The latter two points clearly being the most difficult.

We can't have another "normal" West Brom transfer window and rely on shoehorning in some last minute loan signings. This summer window is potentially going to define what kind of club we are for the next few years.

I bet the board are scared. What are people going to do? Threaten to not renew their season tickets, then renew them anyway? Again  ::)

I am considering penning a strongly worded letter which I may or may not post.

« on: May 24, 2019, 07:03:47 PM »
I actually feel a bit sorry for Lai. He clearly knew little or nothing about football in UK, and was fed a bloody good line by JP about making good money from the club.
He was taken to the cleaners by JP, who lets not forget had the clubs best interests at heart????? He took the money and ran. Lai is left with a sick dog that he cant afford to heal. I think he will sit back and pray that the next manager can pull a rabbit out the hat and get us promoted, at which point he will try to recoup his outlay. He can throw money at it, but whats the guarantee it will be well spent, remembering the last 2 years, where we have wasted so much money on ordinary players. If I owned the club i wouldnt be throwing money at it right now.

Come on that is rather disingenuous. You clearly have no time for Peace, and I agree that he got top dollar for our club but it was in a very good state when he sold it. It’s what happened after the sale that’s screwed us and that’s on Lai.

I'd be extremely suprised if its not Hughton, if he wants it you'd think its his. His style of football is something the players are all very much accustomed too, got a couple of promotions in this league, known quantity.

Danny Cowley could be interesting, certainly success everywhere he's gone but its a huge step up from where he's done. It's hard to find much about his actual playing style - I'm not  sure to what extent people saying its bad would probably say that about any league 2, conference level teams.

I agree... I just can't see them seriously considering anybody other than Hughton.

He's known, steady, managed at this level and won't cost them anything in compensation. Seems nailed on to me.

After speaking with a norwich season ticket holder, his style is towards that of Pulis.

For that reason I'd much rather us take a chance on a younger more exciting manager and would certainly consider non-UK applicants. The squad will have to be revamped and so this is the time for a full reboot.

Looked to me as if Dawson was taken ill rather injured ,anyone heard anything?
.

He was dizzy and puked up at halftime, hence the change. The medics gave him a pill but it didn't work.

« on: May 09, 2019, 06:20:46 PM »
After reading some of the comments above I understand that fans are unhappy with Lai and I am too, however some of the reasoning is baffling to me.

Many seem to expect him to bleed blue & white, attend more games and throw more money after bad.

Newsflash. He's Chinese. From China. It's a long way away!

He didn't buy our club because he's always followed the baggies or that he's an eccentric billionaire who had gotten tired of playbunnies and yachts.

What he did was to buy a business that he thought would deliver him profit in a self-sustained way whilst using the premier league's global exposure for the benefit of his brand.

Unfortunately he's made several poor decisions and thrown somewhere in the region of £150 million down the drain. I'm surprised that he even showed up to the Brentford game!

As much as we hate it, we are not in the 70's anymore where the club, players and fans were closer together.

This is 2019 and football is a business. Owners are here to make money, 95% of the players are mercenaries and fans are disconnected because quite frankly we do not really matter that much within a business model that is sustained with TV money.

That will continue to be the case until the TV cash dries up and gate receipts & merchandising matter more.

Until then, let's keep our fingers crossed for the playoffs and hope that Lai sells us to a more ambitious owner rather than commencing asset stripping.

Rant over.

Dawson and Gibbs fast asleep

It just goes to show what an important player Foster was for us. He absolutely controlled the defence. A quality that Johnson is lacking.

Bartley is a liability how he's in squad is beyond me

Lack of other options is the reason.
