Seriously that would not surprise me. They are sleepwalking into the bottom 3.

Rob Dorsett

#avfc have nobody lined up to replace Dean Smith, though Kasper Hjulmand will be considered, alongside others.

Club has no favoured candidate.

International break gives breathing space, hierarchy won’t rush the appointment.

Next man must be able to take Villa to “next level”.

I can think of no better team to finally end TP's 'never been relegated' tag. The meltdown should he be appointed would make Villa Talk and the H and V sites essential reading.

Or why not the 'dream team' of Mick McCarthy and Terry Connor. Available and knowledgable about West Midlands football?!

Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers has reportedly verbally agreed to take over as Manchester United manager.

He would prefer to wait until the end of the season but United are pushing for him now.

Well it won't be for us. Seem to remember a lot of our fans claiming he wasn't good enough for us.

Could be interesting given his perceived liking for large transfer budgets.

I thought he didn't want to be too far from the south coast. Couldn't get much further away in this country.

I like Howe but I think. Newcastle is too big a job for him
The supporters up there will expect results especially with all the money available
However I do think they will be relegated and if so Howe will be sacked.

I hope Newcastle and Howe is a marriage made in heaven, but I doubt it.

If I were a Newcastle fan, having the richest owners in the Premier League, I’d be thinking, with this appointment, here we go again.

IMHO, they needed a big name Manager, regardless of what division they will be in next season. And for those suggesting, no big name would go to a club on the cusp of relegation, well money talks.

You wouldn't want to be stuck in the Championship trying to get promoted with Newcastle in there as well spending silly money would you? That would be one automatic promotion place gone already. Think we need to get some good players in in January...

Rumour as it Steve Gerrard could be the next manager at Seal Park I do hope not I've always liked Gerrard it would be so sad to blot his illustrious career by managing that lot.

I with what Danny Murphy said, can't see Gerrard going to Villa because Villa have a low ceiling.  If he was going to go anywhere this Autumn, Newcastle made more sense in my opinion.

With Gerrard you have to always bare in mind Liverpool, who I think it is fairly safe to say he wants to manage. Villa is a risk to his CV he doesnt need.

I agree. If he stays at Rangers and continues to sweep up each year then the Liverpool job is his as soon as Klopp decides to leave.

Yep - win the league this season and he’s automatically in the champions league next year.

Going to Villa harms his chances of landing the Liverpool job
