They really are. Got stuck into them for 5 minutes, conceded one and gave up. Gutless wonders.

Gutless wonders, that is an insult to gutless wonders.  ;)

It is I was there. This lot are bottlers
You might be right. I've tried to put it out of my mind, but things were agonising in 85-86 after we'd finished 12th the season before.

Sawyers got 1 out of 10 from the Bham Mail. What did he do to deserve that?

This might be the "double" season again. Last time it was the double over Blues and down with 4 wins. Might do the same again with Wolves this time. Is that a positive? Probably not. We were bloody awful that season and we look equally incompetent this time round.

85-86 was worse, I just looked at that squad and its littered with decent players, who just gave up playing for the club, I would suggest a better calibre than we have now.

Do people wilfully ignore 02/03 which is basically the same situation as now? That was a really bad season.

The club was in a very different situation and expectation back then. That team was way out of his depth but at least they had some fight and graft in them. We were pretty much down before we even kicked a ball.

I thought the same this season to be honest.
It is not the taking part, but the winning that counts.

Yep, I agree a general problem is that we've been playing too deep, but I saw several times this evening when players like Sawyers and Livermore had time on the ball with players further forward, and they still turn back and pass backwards. It may be a lack of confidence.

More likely a lack of vision, a lack of football nous and a lack of courage to play the forward pass even if they see it.

The 02/03 team results may have been similar but the application and desire to TRY puts the 02/03 squad well ahead.

This squads better than the 02 one but these playuers don't care and i ALMOST don't blame them. What have they got to look upto? Lai and co. are a tragic joke.

Actually, a fair few of those players from 2002/03 would get into this team. We also didn't choose to sack the manager that season, we took our relegation on the chin and got promoted with Megson again the next year. Sound and sensible strategegy before we turned into the new Watford.

Giving your claiming this season is the same as our team being hammered in 2002/03 and out of their depth have you accepted now then that your prior view that this squad was easily good enough to survive was totally wrong?

We didn't even have a training ground, but the team was better!

By the same I meant newly promoted. As usual you've decided for yourself what I meant and gone off on a tangent.

The real answer is it's discounted because everyone likes SGM.

There's been quite a few seasons where we were newly promoted.  Why did you pick that one out?

Closest one to 85/86 which everyone harps back to.

Not by me it isn’t. That was a very poor side. Work ethic however was 10 times better than this mob. That is one for the manager to resolve, it should be a given.

That was nowhere near as bad. Woeful as we were, I only remember us being thrashed twice.

1985-86 (adjusted for 38 games) = 22 pts / -49 GD
2002-03 = 26 pts / -36 GD

2020-21 (if we continue as we are) = 21 pts / -63 GD. That would make it the worst season in our history.

Tonight was always going to be a big ask against City, however I doubt they will have an easier 90 minutes all season. Like Villa, Leeds and Arsenal before them, we let them do what they wanted and didn't lay a glove on them.

To then see Phillips and Pereira exchanging shirts and Johnstone laughing and joking with Stones after the final whistle is an utter disgrace  >:(

I also asked you a question, if you have now accepted that your prior view that this squad was easily good enough to survive was totally wrong? You've dodged that entirely and I can't think why.

I can just imagine what Big Sam will say after swapping shirts and laughing with the other players. It won't be pretty after that performance.

At least it wasn’t 7 or more

20 games into that season, we were 5 points better off and only 2 away from 17th place.

If Brighton beat Fulham tomorrow, we go 8 points off 17th - 9 in reality due to our newly acquired goal difference.

Even if Fulham beat Brighton, we would still be 6 off 17th and 4 away from a Fulham team who would have a game in hand on us.
