Listened to it on Radio 5. Thought Allardyce got his tactics right. We sat back and made a solid(ish) wall for Liverpool to try and break down, we just punted the ball out and regrouped for the next attack conserving our energy.
We let Liverpool think they'd won the game by half time and then changed tactics in the second half when the energy we'd conserved could be put into effect. If we'd tried to play that way from the start we'd have got hammered as we'd have been shattered by about 65 mins. Pat Nevin got it right when he said it was like Rope A Dope in boxing.
I've been very critical of Sawyers but yesterday he was one of our best players (certainly second half), long may that continue.
As others have said we need to build on that performance and start picking up wins from those around us and in the bottom half of the table.
Very definitely a case of green shoots of hope though.
