Johnstone
Holgate   Dawson   Hegazi   Gibbs
Barry
Phillips  Johansen
Murphy  Gayle  Rodriguez

Subs: Bond, Bartley, Livermore, Harper, Brunt, Montero, Leko

Reserves: Myhill, Mears, Adarabioyo, Townsend, Field, Morrison, Hoolahan, Edwards, HRK

For the first time in a while, there is no obvious weakness in the team. Every player in that XI is either the division's best, or top 5, in their position. Bench looks very strong for this level and it's difficult to pick the 7 subs.

That team is way good enough to go on an extended unbeaten run, anyone know if any of our new loaners are no cup-tied ?

Matt Wilson said that montero and johanson aren't cup tied but Murphy played for Newcastle.

These guys haven't been playing, are they really going to go straight into the side?

The FA cup tie replay has just become a blessing to get two of them match fit.

It's not easy to say until you see the new guys within the team, see how it all gels. At this stage I'd probably predict this to be our first choice team:

                                             Johnstone

Holgate                 Dawson                               Hegazi                Gibbs

                        Phillips            Barry                       Johansen

Murphy                                   Rodriguez                                    Gayle

good acquisitions undoubtedly, but DM has to meld them into the team now, without alienating the incumbents. It wont happen overnight and remember we have a horrible run of fixtures coming up.
I'm not trying to be negative but realistic and to repeat a very good window.

Over to you now DM / GJ.

You say weld them into a team but really it's just Murphy in for Barnes like for like (HRK makes way). Then it's just Johansen. Montero will be impact off the bench unless we have injuries.

Not sure we should try and integrate all 3 new loanees into the team at once.  Isn't there an argument for allowing some time to train together?
Maybe Field and Leko should have gone out on loan, although Field is a useful replacement if Barry tires.  Harper and Adarabaiyo should play in the cup.

Apt thread title really as those additions have certainly reinforced the fact that we have the 'best team' in this division.

Anything less than finishing top is failure from here.

DM and the club have done good business for the first time ever (or so it feels) in a January window.

That top spot looks possible at last. Let's see what we can do.

Really pleased with Johansen and Murphy, unsure about Montero but he at least give us some depth and options.

It’ll be an interesting dynamic for Moore to manage with 6 loans in the squad too. Hopefully the charge starts tomorrow and we keep automatic in our hands.

I’d say Livermore will come back in after suspension.
Not saying it’s right, what I’ve heard re johansen is promising but jake seems a first pick for Moore when available .
Must have Gayle playing as central striker or not at all. Natural finisher wasted out wide
Whenever we are playing badly, just remember -
Paul Chrichton,Neil Parsley, Andy Mcdermott, Scott Darton, Winston White,Mark Angel, Fabian DeFreitas, Paul Williams......now, do you feel better?

Are there restrictions on the number of loan players that a team can have in a match-day squad? Is part of this also tied to age?

You’re allowed a maximum of 8 loan players but only 5 of them can be in match day squad

In terms of age, you can loan 4 players from the same club but only 2 players can be above the age of 23

I can't wait to see this team in action - really happy with the signings we've made. Best team is currently:

Johnstone

Holgate Dawson Hegazi  Gibbs

Phillips  Barry  Johansen

Gayle  Rodriguez  Murphy

A variation of something like that! Not a fan of Gayle out wide but I think Moore will look to shoe horn them both into the side.

Will be criminal if Livermore continues as a regular in light of our transfer business and the emergence of Rekeem Harper.

Why are people so obsessed with Gayle playing through the middle? If he does he will score less goals the way we play as he will need to drop deeper. His goal return from a wide starting position is very good. If people have the correct understanding of the system we play they will realise it's important he plays from a wide starting position. Mo Salah doesn't start in the number nine position for Liverpool does he and look how many goals he scores. People need to get more modern in their thinking.

Based on the idea you can only play 5 loanees, I think this is our strongest eleven.

Johnstone

Holgate
Dawson
Hegazi
Gibbs

Livermore
Barry

Phillips
Johanson
Montero

Gayle

Subs: Bond; Bartley; Brunt; Harper; Murphy; Edwards; Rodriguez

Toss up between Leko and Edwards for that spot. No Robson-Kanu, although I know Moore will still pick him.
