The club has to do 2 things quite simply without fuss

Name a stand after him

Pay for the rest of the statue

Anything short of those 2 things will be dishonourable to a man who gave and suffered so much but broke down all those barriers and played with a smile on his face even in the midst of all that

Why do we always have to wait before someone dies? We should have done this whilst he was alive like we did with Tony Brown.

I do think the clubs slow sometimes in recognising its greats, most players get testimonials after 10 years service and don't recall the testimonial  CCFC awarded Cyrille. did anyone on here attend.

Cyrille Regis To Play Testimonial Match
Cyrille Regis, one of Coventry City’s most illustrious sons, was back in town today treading the turf he graced for seven years during which time he became the hero of the fans.

Regis has been left eight years so there was an element of surprise in the announcement that he had been awarded a testimonial match by the Sky Blues.

The ex-striker expressed his surprise, but was clearly pleased by the belated show of support.

The testimonial is expected to take the form of two matches at Highfield Road on 31 July – seven days before the start of the new season.

Regis is expected to play in a veterans’ match before the main event which will be a semi-serious affair between the Sky Blues and First Division West Bromwich Albion.

It is expected that the former England man will endeavour to pull together Coventry’s 1987 FA Cup winning team of which he was a member.

The nucleus is to hand. Goalkeeper Steve Ogrizovic and centreback Trevor Peake are still at Coventry City, Dave Bennett lives in the area and the joint managers of that year George Curtis and John Sillett still live in Coventry.

The proper match is expected to be a highly competitive affair.

"The managers Gordon Strachan and Dennis Smith will be fine tuning their sides in readiness for the big kick off seven days later so it should be a competitive game," says Regis.

The striker, whose trademark was scoring highly spectacular goals, began his playing career at West Brom with star players like Laurie Cunningham, Brendon Batson, Derek Statham, Len Cantello and Tony ‘Bomber’ Brown.

After seven years he transferred to Coventry City where he stayed another seven years – winning the only major medal of his career. He then played two years for Aston Villa and ended his career at Wolverhampton Wanderers, Wycombe Wanderers and Chester City.

How about either the Brummie or The Smethwick to become the Cyrille Regis stand?  This cant be done overnight it will take time but the club MUST do something to remember this GREAT man.
IT'S MORE THAN A CLUB, IT'S OUR CULTURE

Cyrilles too soon departure,is this the time to rename the stadium.
,for the rights.
The Cyrille Regis Palm Stadium?
Every football fan in the world will be aware of this mans importance,I would only suggest this because of Cyrilles name and his achievements.
Mention Cyrille Regis it means West Bromwich Albion, nuff  said.

No I would be against renaming the stadium. Renaming a stand is one thing but the Hawthorns is the Hawthorns.

as someone who only became a WBA fan in the second half of this decade, I didn't know much about Cyrille. However, I did know the name as it had been mentioned in this board many times as a reference to legendary players for this club. The many many mentions by several top current and former players only confirm Cyrille's status a great Baggie, player, and person.

May he rest in peace, certainly gone way too soon.

I really think we should petition the club to get a stand named after him

Still shocked to think that Cyrille, my absolute boyhood hero, has died. Easy to forget just how he, Laurie and Brendan transcended football. I found this old NME cover recently. Can't think of any other footballers who've made it onto the cover of that publication.

In my opinion Jacko saying 'as well as Albion' made us look like an afterthought!

Still really upset.

My boyhood hero. My first Albion memory hearing 'nice one cyrille'.

Met him once - humble, friendly, gave his time without hesitation. A legend. RIP.

Tributes - permanent - a statue.
One off - green and yellow kit as a one off, bit like the Astle kit.
Nice one Cyrille, nice one son

Only if they promise to play better than they did in the white kit!

Well the east stand is such a boring name. The Cyrille Regis stand would have a far nicer ring too it.

Does anyone remember the stand that came before it (I can't myself)? My Dad always moaned about them knocking it down.

He may have had a point...

And yes, I'd love to see the East Stand renamed in Cyrille's honour.
