West Bromwich Albion FC / Warming up
« on: February 11, 2024, 01:13:31 PM »
At the outset, I have zero medical / physio knowledge, but when you watch the half ar6ed way players warm up, surely this could be a contributory factor th the number of strains / pulls / ligament / tendon injuries that are incurred.
It seems like players go from 10-20% stressed to full on match speed which cannot be right can it?
It cannot be coincidence that Daryl Dike pulls up in the first 10 mins after sitting on the bench for an hour
I am likely a mile off with this, but if he can train all week, do gym work but not manage a match something isn't right and if you look across the season it's not an isolated case

I was listening to a piece on radio where rugby is introducing gumshields with sensors measuring shock, impact etc, only a matter of time before they are adapted for use in footy, has to be a move in the right direction in my view. Data has to drive decision making in the future

West Bromwich Albion FC / did you know ? thread

I thought I would start this off with

Did you know?
That in the WBA v Wolves head to head, we are currently +12 wins more than the knuckle draggers which is the largest margin EVER !!, they have been in deficit since 1910-11 season,

In other words we have had the ascendancy over them for 112 years !!

West Bromwich Albion FC / best foreign signing
« on: October 19, 2023, 12:57:47 PM »
who do you think is west broms best ever foreign signing ??

I would vote for Zoltan Gera, during his first stint at Albion, he was fantastic, sadly his 2nd stint was marred by injury, but none the less he was a fantastic and talented professional

Premier league champions medal, not good enough for WBA
Serge Gnabry champions league winner, not good enough for WBA
Johnny Evans, EPL champion, moved on to get success
A few others have gone onto have great careers, when have we got it right and had players realise their potential here?

I'm in the play a number for 5/6 games category, but firmly of the mind that we the fans have a responsibility to support them come what may.

Anyone seen the vid of Betis fans annual Xmas tradition? Thousands of soft toys being launched onto the pitch at half time for under privileged kids, really heart warming

West Bromwich Albion FC / really WBA ???

shirt stock running low ???  Just saw the OS saying shirt stocks are low !  In the run up to xmas ??

I know about global supply chain problems etc, but with a "partner" like Puma surely this should not be an issue, should it? just feels so typically Albion, no wonder the shops hardly ever open (that is sarcasm)

Apologies if there is already a Cov thread,

I keep thinking they are out performing themselves and the bubble will burst.
Will it?
I just looked at their first team squad, largely unfamiliar, their reserve keeper is the spit of a young Ben Foster.
Robins is an ok manager but not someone you would look at and think innovative, very clever or under-rated.
Is it a response to being back at Ricoh?
what are peoples thoughts, should we be concerned about them?

West Bromwich Albion FC / Fan banned for standing
« on: August 23, 2021, 03:47:38 PM »
Just seen on twitter that a fan has received a banning letter from the club for "alleged" persistent standing.

Now whilst we dont know any facts, it does "appear" harsh to ban a fan just 2 home games into the season after 18 months away.

Anyone see anything of the "incident" (apparently the "offender" was ejected) or have any further info?

BTW the term "alleged persistent standing" (which is used by the club) seems really weird, either he was or was not ejected for persistent standing, surely.

West Bromwich Albion FC / contract extensions
« on: August 05, 2021, 10:22:45 PM »
I know that a lot of us have been crying out for stability and a longer term plan, myself included, however the contract extensions announced today have me baffled.

I do not understand why players who have played in the premier league last season and struggled are getting extensions most especially older players,

In the event that the plan is achieved and we get back to the "survival league" in the next 2 years we will have aging aged players of insufficient capability with a year or 2 left on their contracts, makes no sense to me whatsoever. Furlong / Johnston I would get,  Bartley / Phillips I do not !

West Bromwich Albion FC / The Allardyce exercise
« on: June 01, 2021, 11:07:13 AM »
without getting into the whys and wherefores, how much did the Allardyce exercise cost the club in pure financial terms (not going to get into player dis-affection / loss of value, scenarios)
a) Pay off for Bilic
b) wages the 2 Sams and acolytes
c) wages for Okay / Diagne / Snodgrass
d) Snodgrass contract
e) other bits and bobs

Surely Mr Dowling has this in his already lengthy "minus column" when it comes to annual review time?

West Bromwich Albion FC / Parachute payments - shocker !
« on: April 05, 2021, 06:57:31 PM »
I just read this, https://www.inbrief.co.uk/football-law/premier-league-parachute-payment/

I was under the impression that parachute payments were for 3 years but seems there is a caveat ! Was I the only 1 unaware of this???

If a club is promoted to the Premier League again during the three-year parachute payment period, the payments stop as they will once again enjoy all the financial benefits of playing in the Premier League.

The change in rules also dictate that clubs relegated after a single season in the Premier League will only receive 55 per cent and 45 per cent over two seasons with the third payment eliminated entirely.

West Bromwich Albion FC / what is the point of WBA ?
« on: January 04, 2021, 08:34:21 AM »
Firstly let ma state that I absolutely get the fans institution, that generations have invested in the club and its history,
However the question could be framed against the back drop that football is now very much a business and the fans romantic attachment is now a virtual irrelevance
Against this backdrop,
Is WBAFC Ltd a cash generator? - unequivocally not, unless permanently resident in EPL
Is WBAFC a vehicle for global advertising, not realistically, unless permanently resident in EPL
Is WBAFC a status symbol, hardly, unless permanently resident in EPL
Is WBAFC a long term investment proposition only if it becomes permanently resident in EPL

So how to achieve the elusive "permanently resident in EPL" status, is it a quick fix, patently not, if it were many, many rich owners would have achieved it by now.

The ONLY way forward for this club is a solid medium / long term plan which is better than the "others" plans. Constantly chasing the quick fix is doomed to failure, which will mean the chinese ownership will remain in place and value of the asset will diminish.

https://www.footballinsider247.com/leicester-city-submit-bid-for-striker-let-go-by-west-brom/

Leicester have submitted a bid for Alvechurch striker Jacob Wakeling after he impressed during a trial following his West Brom release.

The 19-year-old was let go by the west Midlands outfit when his contract expired at the end of June.

He joined non-league outfit Alvechurch on a free transfer and made such a goalscoring impact he was invited for a trial at high-flying Leicester.

A Leicester source has told Football Insider that Wakeling has shone to such an extent during his stint that the club have offered him a contract.

They have also tabled an offer to seventh-tier Alvechurch for his services as the teenager looks to follow in the footsteps of Alan Smith.

The former England and Arsenal striker netted 84 times after being plucked from the Worcestershire side.

Leicester hero Jamie Vardy, destined to go down in the history books as the club’s greatest-ever player, has made a staggering impact after his arrival from Fleetwood Town in 2012 for a non-league record £1.7m.

Wakeling scored twice for the Foxes Under-23s as they thumped 10-man Brighton 4-0.

The forward scored the first two goals as City ran riot on the south coast, ending their four-game Premier League 2 losing streak.

This was his second appearance for Leicester’s development squad.

He was given the green light to join on on trial after netting seven goals in eight games for Alvechurch this term, including a hat-trick against Leicestershire side Barwell

West Bromwich Albion FC / Dear Ken,

Please tell us what is going on?  (in below, by you, I mean the board)

a) do you want the club to compete at premier league level
b) do you want Mr Bilic to continue as manager beyond his current contract
c) does self sustaining mean profit before investment
