I can't believe that anyone thinks our current problems are down to Livermore's distribution.  Our getting the ball forward doesn't consist of getting it to anyone in CM, it's all about the defence hitting it into the corners.  If we want to improve our distribution we need to look at Bartley/Ajayi.  The CM's jobs are to get after the second ball.
Thats it exactly , there's a hint of rugby in these tactics . Its exactly what Barnsley did under Val .

As bad a performance as we have had at this level in a long time , stinking .

It's not that simplistic otherwise he'd sign Johan Blake and Usain Bolt to play centre mid and ignore any notion of footballing skill in that area!

The point is Livermore is vastly overrated by most of our fans.  He is the elephant in the room.

You can't just pin all the blame on the Manager IMO.
One bloke sets us out like this , one bloke keeps picking the same players . The same bloke won't change tactics and the knocking up the sides comes from one bloke. When its good and we put 3 passes of intent together I'll praise Val, most of this season its been dull at best for me.
As I  posted elsewhere I think we haven't seen what Mowett is really capable of as the ball misses his feet too much for my liking .

Strange thing is I like most things about Val and what he's done so far except the actual football side of things .
Pulis in the Premier against top draw players is one thing , this against a skint league of workers is quite the other .

So are you going to call out particularly Livermore and to a lesser extent Molumby and Mowatt.  Because its their job to link the play.  If they can't do it then how is that on the Manager?
Val doesnt go through the middle ......never has.
Watch how many times we try to hit the wings or final third with hopeful balls . Thats his style.

We play with a high press which is good, I used to hate us playing with a low block all the time.

I don't see our central defenders just lumping it, there is transition through midfield.  However, I even said it prior to Stoke how many goal chances have been created from central positions, not many I'll tell you.  Mowatt has already scored 2 worldies.  How many defence splitting passes are made by Livermore?

We don't have the personnel to.play like Swansea.  Criticise Ismael for not replacing Livermore in the Summer if you want?  He is not alone but the biggest problem in how we are playing.

Maybe it has to be Snodgrass forming a central 3?  Then you have to bench one of Phillips, Grant, Robinson, neither one deserves to be a sub.  This problem is compounded when Grady is back.
Mate , we've just had four games of Bartley , Semi and even Clarke lumping into the wings . Bloody rugby tactics.

Yeah, but having players like Pereira would also allow the team to play through the pitch when in possession and link the team together properly. He was a great player so obviously is a massive miss, regardless of the set-up.
Val doesn't play through the middle , never has as far as I'm aware . I often feel we don't make the most of Mowett although not comparing him to MP .

Top two was unrealistic as soon as we sold Periera, he is the sort of quality you need to get out of this league automatically; you need a bit of star-dust to stand out from the pack. Fulham have a much stronger squad than us and that will really start to show over the Xmas period when the fixtures stack-up. Bournemouth less so but they are winning for fun.
Pereira for all his ability would have struggled with bingo ball and constant lumping from the back , star dust doesnt get used in tactics like this .
Robinson is our most dangerous attacker yet struggles with tactics ,  lesser MP if you like . Its drone football that sucks any joy out of it .

And let us not make out that we’re playing this horrendous style of football because of our budget.

This squad are much better than this current brand of mind-numbing ***** that we’re playing.

This is 100% on the head coach.

Swansea tonight are a great example of a side on a limited budget and they were miles better than us tonight. Miles better in style, application and a damn sight easier on the eye.

Most of the division would give an arm and a leg for our players - yet we set them out like that..
Nail on the head , he won't see January at this rate.
Points over performances won't wash at this level.

That's too easy.  What are his options at the moment?
Less lumping and more composure on the ball for starters .

That didn’t take long, two defeats, third in the league.

Sack the manager! Obvious course of action to take.

Never mind top quality like Pereira was given away in the summer.
Missing the obvious , we have 4 or 5 players much better than lumping it forward to nobody . I could stomach going longer to the front three if they looked suited to it but they don't , taking Robinson off when he is our most complete attacker says it all .

I said it when he arrived having seen Barnsley , the football is dire the majority of the time .
Lumping it , hoofing , long ball ....call it what you like.

We had a wonderful few months under Slav playing some really good football.   But at the heart of that was a certain little Brazilian and an in form and fully fit Grady.   We also saw the emergence of Ferguson who was brilliant in that short period.

Post Christmas it wasn't quite so good was it? and don't forget Blues outplayed us at their place and we were rescued by Austin's only real contribution of note.  You may have forgotten the return game at the Hawthorns post lockdown? It was AWFUL, utterly frustrating and without entertainment ending 0-0.

We have played some exhilarating football under Val, we have fought out scrappy points as well.  At the moment we are disjointed and struggling with our form but winning more than we lose (once).  Whilst we are winning games style is irrelevant.  Personally, I really hate playing well and losing.
You are correct those performances did tail off at  Xmas but I'd sooner watch that than aimless hoofing , no wonder the front three are on scraps lately .
These players can play decent football , I despair as our CB's launch another ball forward to nobody .
I feel like its building houses on sand , much like Pulis its points over performances and that never lasts long .
I've not seen anything exciting yet from Val , we've bullied a few teams granted .
I have huge respect for this level but its poor this season , most clubs are cash strapped while we kept the likes of Townsend . We should be better on the ball and control games to get Grant , Robinson and the likes in the game.

It's as if people have allready forgot what it was like watching SJ, Barts and Semi trying to play out from the back under Big D.  It's like people can't see that Jake, for all his qualities, can't consistently find a teammate over more than 10 yards.   Who is going to play this wonderful football people are wanting?

Yes it was tough going, yes it was a battle but they found a way to win and that is all that matters.  This is the reality of champ football.
The majority of these players played decent football under Bilic at this level , yes its a derby but for a team thats come down from the PL 80 mins of Tonight was very poor footballing wise with a huge lack of coolness on the ball .
Frankly we are creating a lot of our own problems , the link from midfield to the front three was missing again Tonight .
Haven't seen anybody say about wonderful football just maybe a bit more actual football .

I think Grant is a very average player in terms of what he does on the ball, but he has a very powerful right foot shot.
Agree with this , you have to ask what could the front three players do with some actual service. Other than some poor crosses I can't recall much .

Fair enough. Not sure we’re as good as you believe, and I doubt any Albion team has ever had more points after 12 games of any season since 1888, no matter how much talent and brilliance we’ve had.

I like our results.
This lot are better than smashing it forward Gould style hoping for a lucky break that much I do know.

I’m simply suggesting we look at the table and a points return of 25 from 12 games.

With a not particularly good side IMO compared with what we’ve had in the Championship over the past 20 years.
Its a weak league this season and I mean that with respect , on paper we have the 2nd best squad but more to the point this style of play is unenjoyable to watch for me knowing these players have played decent football before .

BTW surprised by all the negativity on here claiming our performance was terrible. It's almost like the fans are unhappy if we not battering teams every week and scoring goals for fun - it was a tough game.

We controlled the game, gave Blues next to nothing and found a way to win. Yes it was ugly and scrappy at times but you have to give Blues a lot of credit. They were very well set up and committed throughout. The important point was that we kept our concentration and didn't give a silly goal away, and relied on our extra quality to count, which what happened with Grant's goal.
We do not control games by giving the ball away like we do , Sunjic missed a sitter at 0 0 ...Hogan was a inch from connecting to a cross . This is a Blues side which hasn't scored in 7 hours or whatever , a better team would punish us . We don't look fluid or comfortable yet despite juggling players about .

Wow! The negativity is staggering.

I’ve been out so not seen the game, but what I do see is a home win over a well-coached team after a dreadful performance at Stoke.

And a team that’s at least top of the league overnight.

God only knows what people would be saying if we were near the bottom of the table. It could easily be the case - look at Stoke a couple of years ago after spending £££s.

We’re not a great side. We will have to scrap to stay in contention this season. And winning games like this will be a big part of the story.
I'd go and watch the game before questioning others views on it in all fairness mate .

Awful to be honest , another game of poor tactics and hoofing the ball . It's a win and a smartly taken goal from Grant but the basic passing has got to improve .
These players should be passing with a swagger at this level , we know they are better than this.
