According to Football Insider, we have lined up Marco Silva in the event talks with Ismael collapse!

West Brom have lined up ex-Everton boss Marco Silva as a fall-back option in case talks with Valerien Ismael collapse, Football Insider can reveal.

The Oakwell manager has emerged as the latest frontrunner in Albions’s lengthy managerial hunt.

But a deal is not yet agreed and a West Brom source has told Football Insider the club have also been in contact with Silva.

The Portugese, 43, has not returned to management since being sacked by Everton in December 2019 with them 18th in the table.

West Brom are wary of having an alternative in case their latest managerial pursuit is unsuccessful.

A move to appoint Chris Wilder was vetoed by the Chinese owner Guochuan Lai, leading to the departure of sporting director Luke Dowling last week.

David Wagner held talks before choosing Young Boys instead and there were also discussions with Lincoln City manager Michael Appleton and another old boy Derek McInnes.

Ismael has crucial Championship experience and won many admirers for the remarkable recent campaign he oversaw at minnows Barnsley.

He took over at Barnsley last October and guided them from the relegation to fifth and the play-offs after overseeing an extraordinary turnaround.

Silva has not managed in the Championship but has extensive English experience through previous posts at Watford and Hull City.

Silva made his name in his homeland through spells at Estoril and Sporting Lisbon, as well as at Olympiacos in Greece.

He won the second division at Estoril as well as the league title at Olympiacos, and the Portugese Cup at Sporting.

Not sure if there is any truth in this as not seen anywhere else.

This would be a disaster if confirmed  :'(

Looking back at Huddersfield's record when they were promoted via the playoffs, they finished 5th with a negative goal difference of -2  :o

In 46 games they only scored 56 goals and conceded 58.

Hope to god this is a wind up!

According to Alan Nixon, compensation for Cooper and his staff is 4.5m so we can cross him off the list!

Go get Steve Cooper, if you want a team to play decent football.

If it's win at all costs with boring football then it will be Wilder

Sorry Mark but don't get your obsession with Cooper. Swansea only scored 56 goals in 46 league games this season. I watched both play off semi finals and the final today and Swansea were hardly an attacking threat! Not 100% sure Wilder is the answer either but in Sheff Utd's promotion season by way of comparison, they scored 78 goals and only conceded 41.

Another game where individual decisions / mistakes have cost us. 1st goal Sawyers is watching Kane and does nothing! 2nd Goal is a catalogue of mistakes. Gallagher does very well initially to win a free kick, but rather that wait until we load the box, he takes the free kick quickly and we lose possession. Spurs break and EVERY other team in the PL would commit a 'tactical foul' and take card for the team but Bartley lets the break continue and we are in trouble from that moment.

Team Selection was obviously wrong from the start. Sawyers isn't (and never was) a DM and have no idea why Sam started him again. Pereira is our best / only creative spark and simply has to start every game.

On the plus side, Diagne looks like he can finish if we can create him enough chances (and he can stay onside!). I though AMN did ok and rarely (if at all) gave the ball away. Yokuslu was only on for about 15mins but showed that he isn't afraid to put a foot. Pity these players didn't arrive at the start of January and we may have had a chance to stay up!

I expect that Sawyers is playing further forward. Isn't that where he used to play for Walsall/Brentford?

He's now saying done deal?

Deadline to play tomorrow was at 12pm today so unless we already registered him, he won't be able to play until the weekend.

not ITK, but believe the plan was to have him for today, but negotiations delayed slightly over a purchase clause. Should be announced early tomorrow.

Good to know. Fingers crossed this goes through as our defence has literally no protection!

Yokuslu has been left out of Celta's matchday squad for tomorrow's game so fingers crossed this will be confirmed soon  ;)

Much better 2nd half performance but having taken the lead we simply have to defend better. There is little or no desire to prevent crosses coming into our box (Gibbs?) and then Gallagher had switched off to allow a free run which seems to be a thing that our players do on a regular basis  >:(

If we are to have any chance of staying up (which looks very unlikely at this stage), then the next 48hrs are crucial. We need to get Yokuslu and Maitland-Niles over the line as a bare minimum but suspect even this won't be enough to keep us up  :'(

What a difference since half time. Need to push for the third now and not sit back.

There have been some terrible performances this season, but I think that was quite possibly the worst 45mins I have seen!

So poor this is.

Nothing enjoyable to watch.

Can’t pass to each other.

No patterns of play.

No urgency.

Defensively bad.

Poor upfront.

Midfield can’t get a grip.

Car crash of a performance

I couldn't of put in better myself!

Youtube clips of him look very good and he is exactly what we need, however reading the article below (if true) he doesn't seem overly keen to be joining us although not sure how reliable this website actually is!

Strange that no pictures of him on the official site in kit! Perhaps the Club have another signing to announce tonight and will do both players together?

Tonight was always going to be a big ask against City, however I doubt they will have an easier 90 minutes all season. Like Villa, Leeds and Arsenal before them, we let them do what they wanted and didn't lay a glove on them.

To then see Phillips and Pereira exchanging shirts and Johnstone laughing and joking with Stones after the final whistle is an utter disgrace  >:(

Thought we played ok in patches tonight, but yet again gave away 2 very poor goals and you can't keep doing that if you want to win matches. On the plus side, we scored our first goal from open play since Furlong scored against Newcastle on 12 December (I'm not counting the Man City goal as this was an OG)  :P

I do however think that we are not far away from being a decent side at this level. A commanding centre half (to replace Ajayi), defensive midfielder and a strong/quick striker and we may have half a chance.

Some big games coming up! Over the next 8 games we play Fulham (H), Sheff Utd (A), Burnley (A), Brighton (H) and Newcastle (H). Need to start picking up wins.

This team have no heart or desire. I watched the Villa Kids against Liverpool last night and the effort and commitment was head and shoulders above what we just saw.

I NEVER want to see Ivanovic, Livermore or Sawyers near a West Brom team sheet again.

Not looking forward to next weekend ::)

Wow! From being a proud baggie to utterly embarrassed in the space of 48hrs with virtually the same set of players.

I can accept losing a game of football (and being a fan since 1985, am well used to it) but the way we capitulated after the 1st goal is not acceptable. Not sure having Bilic /Allardyce in charge makes any difference with this set of players as they have proved time and again this season that they are not up for the fight. I would actually go as far to say that the first half today was as bad a performance as I can remember and probably on a par with the second half of the Woking FA Cup defeat!

The performances against Chelsea (first half), Spurs, Man Utd, Man City and Liverpool should be the benchmark / type of performance and effort that goes into EVERY game but this has not been the case.

Big Sam has his work cut out and I'm not sure he was prepared for how big a task he has taken on. Let's hope he has either been promised some money or can generate funds by player sales as without 3 or 4 new players this team have zero chance of survival.
