Has to be David Mills - he was a British Transfer record at the time... nothing.

In modern times, has to be Scott Sinclair, never came close to reproducing the form he had at Swansea. Anelka was a predictable disaster.
If it was easy, it wouldn't be Albion

A wise old owl sat in an oak, the more he saw, the less he spoke
The less he spoke the more he heard, why aren't we like that wise old bird?

I was there that night too. That was when Williams had gone back to Stockport after leaving us! He never had a job scoring for Stockport before and after we signed him, he was even capped for Northern Ireland. As you say, that was pure hoofball, not even Bobby Gould's hoofball rubbish was bad enough for the likes of Paul Williams to thrive on!
glad I didn't suffer alone then, to make a bad night even worse our car was wrecked by a mob of moss sides knuckle draggers.

Has to be Nathan Ellington for me! The Duke/Joke. Came on the back of a brilliant season for Wigan and I myself thought he'd be great in the Premiership. But what a flop he turned out to be!

Never forget when we played Watford away and our fans sang "Hows your toe you lazy ****!!!!

I went to see a Southport FA Cup game last season against Leyton Orient, Ellington was playing for Southport that day. He got injured within 20 minutes...

Probably most disappointing 'high profile' signing for me in recent years was probably Pablo Ibanez. A close second is Borja Valero.

Obviously Spaniards find Sandwell difficult to adjust to :)

Remebmber Paul Williams on his debut, long ball came to him and he jumped for it and was a good 2 feet underneath it. Turned to my dad and said, oh dear what have we done !

Andy Townsend, Paul Groves, Sean Gregan, Borja Valero

Gregan was not a world beater but I don't see how he makes this list. Captained us to promotion as well didn't he?

Loved Gregan, hard as nails and most importantly a leader on the pitch

What about Mickley Evans, £750k in late 90 when we didn't have much money, now that guy was slow.

Martin Albrechsten came with a lot of expectation. Pretty sure he left on a free. Best memories of him were in WS1 nightclub. A regular and not shy getting the drinks in

Matt Carbon also came with a decent reputation and better hairdo and quickly turned to dogshite.

Though the gold medal for me has to go to the man himself James ' couldn't hit a barn door' Quinn.   Decent Money for our lowly status if I remember right.

I don't think Albrechtson really deserves to be in the company being remembered here, he had a few good games - did his knee, hence the free, I think.

Shocked to see Sean Gregan mentioned. Captain under megsons second promotion and was a superb leader. Sunderland away sticks in the mind. 1-0 win, totally outplayed but battled to the end for that very important victory.
David Mills for me...broke transfer record and we all thought Fat Ron must have seen something we hadn't....No..he was awful but a nice bloke!

Anelka, Hartson, Valero and at this rate Ideye might feature on future threads of this nature over the coming years.

David Mills, we were flying when we paid a fortune for him and he never turned up.
In the beginning there was light.......Followed by the king Jeff Astle.
