I can see City doing some sort of deal where they pay him for longer than he plays for them in order to get around FFP. Perhaps with him spending time at New York City too.

That’s if he doesn’t stay at Barca which I’m sure could still happen. It would be a tragedy if after years of people saying Messi has only done it in one league, he goes to France.

The second tier podcast has us winning the league, ahead of Fulham, Sheffield United and Bournemouth.

In short they rate Ismael more than Silva and they think that will be the difference, despite seemingly accepting Fulham have the strongest squad.

I personally wouldn't have done it. The only sensible deal would be a pretty big wage drop next year. He's not going to a prem club, even on a free at this stage of his career and the money in the championship seems for now to have dried up.

He may understand that and be happy and settled in the area and be happy to finish here knowing what the bulk of his retirement pot will be in 3 years.

Theres no way we could pay someone 4million never mind anything more. It just isnt even remotely feasible.

I know. Just wanted to clear up the number required for Pereira to take home £4m per year.

Honestly, if he would agree to stay and we built the team around him I'd consider paying it.  He gives us the best chance of going up as there's nobody close to him in this league.  That's £12m over 3 years - if someone said we could sign a player as good as Pierera for £12m at the moment I'd snap their hand off.

It's actually nearly £24m over three years if you want to pay it in the UK with tax and other on costs.

Does anyone know where 'Full Throstle' is available. I don't think i've seen it.  A quick google search didnt seem to help.

I'm not angry, I think that is too strong, but I am exasperated by what I personally think is a lack of backbone.

It could be said its not my money, but it is my club and I think they've allowed themselves to have there trousers pulled down and get shafted.  £17m is daylight robbery and we should have held firm, regardless of any tantrums and actions.

Id have made him stay. At the very least, someone earlier did the sums and showed that if Pereira dropped to £100k per week tax free it could be roughly £6m more to us so we could have demanded £25m with AH and Pereira needing to renegotiate.

This will be referenced for years.

£17m is a joke, but Al Hilal have played this beautifully.

Dangle c£100k a week in front of MP's agent.  He knows he's within touching distance of that money now and would reluctant to go anywhere else, who may pay more of a fee. If Wham rock up and offer us £25m but only(!!!!) offer around £50k in wages (before tax) MP can just refuse. Leaves us in a very difficult position.

Side note, do we get taxed on transfer fees? We always assume the whole lot could get ploughed back into recruitment, but I assume the taxman takes a cut?

I think the businesses overall profitability would be what the tax man is interested in but I think there’s various fees / levy’s to people like the league / Fa and previous clubs

IT'S A DIFFERENT CLUB IN A DIFFERENT COUNTRY.

I still don’t follow. Are you saying Sheffield United are moving to Riyadh and signing  Pereira?

« on: Yesterday at 10:11:33 PM »
I’ve predicted we will finish 4th as things stand, Behind Fulham, Sheffield United and Bournemouth.  That could change by the end of the window. If we sell Pereira for £20m I suspect we will spend around £6m and I don’t think it will be enough.

Had we got £45m-£47m for Johnstone and Pereira which I had hoped, I think we’d have spent £15-£18m and challenged for 1st.

I think we will blitz some teams, as seen in 2nd half of the blue friendly, but I think we will struggle to maintain the intensity at times with injuries, squad depth and amount of fixtures all causing us problem.

A couple of random predictions
- I’m going to back Grant to get 14/15
- I think we will barely see Kipre
- Johnstone will stay
- Injuries to Diangana, Robinson and Philips will all miss at least 6 games with injuries and it will hurt us.
- Peterborough, Hull and Blackpool will all stay up with P’boro mid table
- Castro will get 15 plus appearances

If it’s £25m I think it’s a poor deal for Villa. He’s 29, had some bad injuries and one great season. He’s a good player but it’s a lot in the circumstances

I don’t mean to contribute to things I don’t think are happening, but a Saudi could pay a Chinese person without leaving a trail in the UK quite easily I’d have thought.

Just to be clear, I’m not suggesting this is happening.

If he’s said he will only sign for Al Hilal, we should tell him he’s going  nowhere and make him stay.

I’m sure he would change his mind come august 25th.

Hard to judge without knowing the price. I don’t see him having another season where he gets 20+ league goals though. I think he’ll get around 10!

I’d honestly let him stay here and sulk for £17m.

At least if you sell him to a prem club for £17m you’ve got the chance of a sell on. If Pereira goes to Al Halil and decides he wants out of Saudi Arabia he’ll probably leave for a fairly minimal fee because nobody in Europe will value his record in that league.

If (and I’m still not convinced) they sell for £17m they are idiots.

Can't remember seeing that anywhere. I'm expecting the figures for season 20/21 to be worse than 19/20.

I'm not sure he said a dividend would be paid, I believe it was an illustration on how it could be paid.
If the club did go down that route, they would have to generate a profit from sales of around £7 million (£5 million holdings, £1 million minority shareholders, £1 million corporation tax). which would come out of the club & not be available for players.

I understand the club have now received an offer from Al H of around £17 million, so we're getting there.

The press are reporting that he definitely said a dividend will be paid. The birmingham mail have published another story today which states:

It was proposed that the loan would be repaid before the end of the year after a dividend had been declared to shareholders, which included those who make up S4A, and could fully fund the independent investigation

It will probably make its way in to the Lai thread but the shareholders deemed this method to be ‘wholly inappropriate’ and those present indicated that, should they receive a dividend, they would use it to re-invest in the club at the earliest opportunity.

I'd be fairly confident in predicting that Diangana, Philips and Snodgrass will at some point during the season miss a minimum of 6 games through injury. It may not be in one go, but its almost certain to happen. Hopefully it doesn't happen at the same time.

I don't think relegation has much of a bearing on our ability to set an asking price. If nobody comes up with the goods we can well afford to keep him on the wages book for 12 months and would be foolish not to given the financial prize at stake with promotion. So I don't agree that relegation somehow means the board have to reduce the asking price by 40%. That would only be the case if we were in financial jeopardy, which we are not.

On the flip side if IS feels Pereira is not 100% committed and doesn’t fit his system it would be foolish to not accept £30m and reinvest some in to the squad to help us secure promotion and the rewards of it.

All of this can be spun depending on your point of view. We are all guessing to some extent, I personally think £35m would be about right.

The question is what will the club do, I strongly believe we will accept less than £35m.

Maybe the alleged we are done is to tell potential MP buyers we don’t need your cash so if you want him you better bring a suitcase full

Personally I think that’s probably part of it.

Neither Robinson or Philips are ideal down the middle and it’s wishful thinking to hope Zohore will suddenly have found someone who inspires him so the one position we definitely need someone IMO is up top.

Whatever his reasons for saying it, I’d be amazed if we didn’t bring anyone in before the end of the window. If we don’t sell, it might be a loan, but I’m sure  something will happen.

Chances are we sell and spend some money!

The first test comes up early
Luton (Sat)
Sheff Utd (Wed)
Blackburn (Sat)

I think we will have a few needing a breather!

I think we get a slight early advantage that Luton play in the EFL cup on the Tuesday, whereas we will get an extra week on the training ground.

Let's get something clear. There are no wing backs either RWB or LWB they are wide midfielders in this 343 system. We need to educate ourselves. Football is evolving and we need to evolve with it.

We need a central striker as a matter of urgency.

I disagree, I think they will be wingback. If not then Townsend and Furlong need replacing as neither are wide midfielders.

Interesting to see how Ward Prowse would go with Livermore and Sawyers alongside him.

Didn't see JWP make much of an impact at Hawthorns in the 3-0.  He can't get into the England team ahead of Rice, Henderson, Phillips.

Pereira beat JWP on stats despite being in an inferior team.  Pereira is a better player hands down.

Don't lower yourself to comparing Pereira to JWP. JWPs performance at the hawthorns was nothing compared to MPs at Stamford Bridge.

Go back to the Pogba and Hazard comparisons. Even De Bruyne couldnt do in the champions league final against Chelsea.

I'd also agree with Beachy boy.

The fact it picks itself so easily highlights some of lack of depth though.
