West Bromwich Albion FC / Re: Does every club do it . . .

I suppose I do criticise players, but only as a frustrated spur of the moment thing. As in: "Brunt, you twonk" or "FFS loook up Thomas". I can't think of any Baggies player I've had what you might call a vendetta against.

Didn't see MotD2. What happened?

As I said in a previous post, I made Odemwingie man of the match for turning the game in the second half and suddenly giving us that injection of urgency that wasn't there with Fortune. To me, he's a bit too arrogant when I'd prefer him just to be confident, but there's no doubting he's making a big difference.

Match of the Day suggested his blaze over the bar after Brunt hit the post was off side anyway, so no harm done.

I think on balance, I prefer to see him used as RH is using him - an impact player coming off the bench to worry and turn defences when we need it most.

As many others have said, nothing but a heat of the moment thing. I think Thomas should have off loaded earlier, but that's easy to say watching it on telly, and I think Brunt was right to make his point. Overall, it's good to see a bit of passion on the field.

I thought red looked great. We looked like 1966 England. (But I must say I'd forgotten 1967 Wembley)

As I said in the After Match thread, Hodgson was MotM for me. And I don't disagree with his view that everyone did their job well, with the possible exceptionn of Fortune. But leaving aside the obvious attraction of Mulumbu who was as immense as evr, I've gone for Odemwingie. Open goal miss or not, he changed the game.

I must admit that after West Ham I couldn't see any way of us surviving. But now I'm full of optimism. A lot depends on the results from the other games this weekend, but we've done our bit.

Man of the Match? Roy Hodgson for finally putting a bit of steel into this side and selecting a set up that for once is hard to beat. Second MotM? Jeremy Peace for bringing him in.

Never mind we got an away point. Never mind we're out of the bottom three. Never mind our goal was off side. Never mind we could have stolen it at the death.

The only fact is we've GOT to stop commiting suicide at the back. That's all that matters and tonight's performance shows Hodgson still has work to do. Why can't our guys manage to concentrate for 90 minutes?

Let's face it. We simply aren't good enough at this level.

There's no way that sort of set up could last. Still no clean sheet. Carson clearly at fault for not commanding his box at the very least.

We need to shake it up and play like West Bromwich Albion can.

I'm not saying this way of playing is wrong - just that it's high risk and knowing the Albion at the moment, I can't see us keeping it up. But fair do's so far. It's nice to mention West Brom and clean sheet in the same sentence.

So far so good I suppose. But I don't like this way of playing football.  It's high rik to put it mildly.

I can see Hodgson's set his stall out for a point. But thi sort of tactic is only a matter of time. Don't like it.

West Bromwich Albion FC / Re: Vela? Who do we play him instead of?
« on: February 27, 2011, 12:20:45 PM »
Ariel attack isn't the answer against Stoke. Two strikers with quick feet - Vela and Odemwingie - will do better - but I fear still not well enough.

West Bromwich Albion FC / Re: Realistic chance of staying up!?

I'm sorry to be a pessimist, but based on our last dozen or so performances, I just can't see us making it. For all the brave words on here, we just leak too many goals and fluff too many even when we do get into a decent position up front. It's depressing, but I fear that's the reality of it. Wigan or West Ham to survive. Us and Wolves to go down.

The fact is that we haven't really got anybody big enough and ugly enough to mix it with their back line, so of course we should rely on pace and trickery. I like the idea of Vela and Odemwingie get service from out wide. The only question for me is who should be on the other flank from Thomas. I could make a case for Tchoy.

True Jsam but remember this was a local derby which means all the normality of "normal" footballing rules goes out the window.
yes, I know and as I said earlier, I'm happy we didn't get turned over. But you can't put a derby game in isolation when you're playing in the context of a whole season. We needed to win today - not just to beat the team down the road - but to get three points against a side we should beat.

Boing Boing - true poacher!!!

Did more in 5 minutes than Fortune's whole game! What a legend!
I liked his goal and I think the lad could do well. But a "legend"? Do me a favour!

Poor first half, but we did look better defensively even only against Wolves, I don't know what game the pessimists were watching but we dominated 2nd half, some decent finishing and we would have won this. With the number of corners we had we have to do something better from set pieces :D
Halifax, mate - I respect your view, but to me this is just the sort of blind optimism that's doing us no favours. It's all ifs and buts. All I saw was a side that doesn't have the skill levels or the craft to beat the side that's bottom of the table. Just like we couldn't beat West Ham or Wigan either. I'm sorry but I'm fed up with "looking for positives". There are no excuses when we can't beat a rubbish side like Wolves.

I'll stick with what I said at half time - poor game between two poor sides.

We huffed and puffed a bit second half, but the Big Bad Wolves were never going to let us blow their house down.

We just ay good enough. The only saving grace is that neither are they.

Hodgson or no Hodgson, I don't see anyway back for here. This may have been a derby and I'm glad we didn't loose it, but in the context of a back half of a season where we've got to win these sort of games, we just look out of our depth. If we were a boxer, the ref would be stopping the contest now to save us from further punishment.

Poor game between two poor sides. I'm struggling to think of anything positive to say. What happened to the team respected for attractive football?
