Two sides who aren't exactly gifted technically, but only one side with any desire and game plan to win.

OK, we pulled one back, but Pulis really has to do better in terms of creativity and passion to convince me. For the most part, we've treated them like royalty.

This is bloody Burnley FFS!

Why is it we seem to insist on giving sides a goal start? We treated them like Real Madrid for the first ten minutes.

Pleased to see Sessignon back. It looks a good formation to hit them on the break, especially if Lescott isn't at full back. Berahino after an hour to give fresh legs and another option?

I suppose you've got to remember that the lad is only 20, but his comments have made me very angry. It's not as if Berahino has come to us recently - we've nurtured him since he was a boy. We're family and he needs to respect that.

He's got a lot to learn as a footballer, but more to learn about growing up.

Yes we huffed and puffed a bit, but too many of our side lack the technical ability to compete at this level. The next couple of days will be crucial in getting at least some new blood in. The trouble is I don't see us being able to afford or attract anyone better than the journeymen we've already got.

Why is it we insist on an extra ten minutes in bed before we start playing?

Agree with those who say Lescott is out of position and a decent full back would give us extra options.

Some nice signs - but they don't add up to goals.

Older viewers will remember a certain Red Adair - a fabled oil and gas well firefighter of the 60s and 70s who was famously summoned up by desperate oil companies facing disaster from a blow out. When all seemed lost they turned to Red and he was exceptionally good at what he did.

The only thing was that others had to rebuild the rigs and get production back on track once Red had done his job.

For Red Adair, read Tony Pulis. Another expert firefighter - good at being parachuted in to avoid disaster by doing whatever it took in an emergency, but having neither the technical know how nor the imagination to rebuild.

So for now, we need Red (sorry Tony) but he is not the long term solution to move the Albion to the next level.

And, like Red, Tony is playing a dangerous game. Stringing two lines of four across the back and soaking up all the pressure others throw at us (Hull, Everton and Brum second half) can not succeed forever.

Hopefully he will put out the fire for now, but he is not the future.

Not exactly convincing was it?

It continues to worry me the way Pulis relies on this backs to the wall, two sets of four mentality.

Well done to Big Vic, but we seem a very one dimensional side at the moment.

And here was me thinking we were bossing this one.

Great to see Big Vic doing so well = partoicularly his link work with Berahino.

Otherwise - until the goal - it's been more of the Everton discipline, which was bound to break down at some stage.

I suppose the ends justify the means, but point or not, I don't like the Pulis Way. It's embarrassing.

That said, I thought Anchibe had a good game and Yacob was terrier-like.

But in the end we scraped a point only because their man Marrellas was so selfish.

If we continue to play and set up like this, it's only a matter of time. We're very, very lucky to be still in it, but something's got to change. Sessegnon for Gardner with Barahino playing off Anchibe and Valero out wide.

Not pretty, but thoroughly professional - a lesson in how to grind out a football match.

If this is life under Pulis, bring it on.

Ideye simply should not be playing at this level. Otherwise, I'm quite pleased with how compact we've been. We look more likely to nick it.

I think based on the Gateshead game and other recent performances, I'd go for this at home in what is already a  must win match:

Baird, GMac, Lescott, Pocognoli

Brunt, Valera

Samaras, Berahino

We're going to have to work much harder than that against Premier League opposition, but you can only beat what's in front of you, as the saying goes.

Berahino showed real class today with his finishing and personally, I wouldn't read too much into the lack of celebration. It was such a David v Goliath game, excessive air punching and skidding knee first into corners didn't seem appropriate, somehow.

Samaras impressed when he came on, and with a week on the training ground, Pulis has time to learn more.

This game was all about getting that glimmer of confidence that has been missing so often, and as far as that goes, it served its purpose.

Good enough I suppose - but nothing like league form needs to be.

Albion Matchday Forum / Re: Team

Under different circumstances, I'd advocate a virtual second string today, but I think Pulis should take another look at as close to the established first team as possible.

I'd rest Dorrans because of his knock at West Ham and maybe Lescott, because Pulis will know what he can do. Possibly Foster too, for the same reason.

But I'd have Blanco and Samaras on the bench, and give them the final half hour.

This is an important game to give the lads some confidence going in to the Hull game. A decent few goals for the like of Ideye and Berahino could work wonders.

Happy New Year to everyone associated with You're a lifeline to those of us who don't live in the area any more and very much appreciated.

April 1962 against Blackpool - Stanley Matthews and all. I was nine years old and went with my mate from Claypit Lane, Terry Neill.

I too remember the colours and the vivid green grass.

The score? 7-1 to the Baggies, with I think Ronnie Allen scoring four and Derek Kevan netting three - but that could be a young lad romanticising.

I suppose I thought ever game would be like that, and I was hooked.

Shame it never quite turned out way.

A decent point but we are so poor in the final third. We desperately need another forward. Ideye looks useless, even worse than Anichebe which is saying something.
Couldn't agree more. Crouch anyone?

Now lets go and win big against Gateshead - that would prove just the confidence going into the Hull game.

Hard to say who was in charge for parts of this game, but whoever it was just about got it right!

Sessegnon best player on the pitch for me.

Let's hope Pulis has learnt at least some of what he needs to know.

Once again, plenty of possession and promise, but until the goal, total lack of finishing ability.

Still, we've got back into it and I'll settle for that at the moment.

Is Varelo not fit?

Begovic didn't have a serious save to make - and that says it all about why we lost this game.

As for Irvine, he'll be out by morning. But unpopular as it might make me, I'm not convinced our freefall is altogether to do with him.

Pleasantly surprised so far, but we've got to make these chances count. I can see it biting us in the bum at some stage.

Varela for me in the second half.
