I can’t wait for Jacko’s reaction  ;D

He's 25 so not the end of the world. He's rubbish but that is by the by, he's currently the only player we've got for his position, almost certain to need improving upon on promotion, where he becomes back up.

Excellent post here from another forum:

Laughing at the comments saying WBA have f***** up here!

No they havent.

You can only sell to a buyer and they generally will only pay what they want to pay. A player is worth what a buyer values them at.

Those slating the club….. again…..

Ask yourself these questions:

Why were sporting happy to sell for pennies (in reality) - £8m
Why were WBA the only club willing to pay the £8m but only 12 months down the line IF we went up?
Why were other clubs not interested in taking him after a decent season in the Bundesliga?
Why were no other clubs interested in MP after a very good season in the premier league?

People in Football circles talk to each other - make no mistake.  We took a gamble on him knowing that it was a minimal fee in relative terms offset against £8.7m transfer fee 12 months down the line.

We went up so another £4.5m top up to reach the £8.7m fee was easily done with promotion.

We earned circa £100m as a club getting promoted and with that secured the future of the club for a number of years, covered the losses of covid and are now on a sound financial footing.

1 year later the same player wants to leave.
1 year later we have a new manager with a different philosophy.
1 year later we are in the championship and flex down wages come into play…usually around 50% reduction.

We only receive 1 concrete offer of double the money we spent on this player only 1 year ago.

We have a manager who’s not that fussed on him.

We have a player who wants to go and earn £77k a week, near as damn it treble his earnings for the coming season.

I’d say the club hasn’t fu**** up one bit.

Your idea of excellent differs greatly from mine.

Apologist rubbish.

Just wait until Sam Johnstone signs his new deal, the fan will be hit with the full contents of a slurry machine on max output  ;D .

An extension for Johnstone actually makes sense though despite it being a dismal outcome in comparison to a sale.

It's going to be hard enough to get the couple of players in that we really need, releasing players who are adequate for the level we're currently at will only make this summer more difficult. Given it's obvious we haven't got a pot to **** in.

They wouldn't have been out of contract until summer 2022... nothing to do with what's happening now.

Replacing Bartley was never going to be a priority this summer, the extra year gives us an additional 12 months to identify and sign his replacement.

Both Bartley and Phillips should have been quietly released at the end of this season. Same goes for Livermore who I'm desperately hoping won't be announced next.

Another poor contract extension. Bartley to 2023.  :-\

I thought we were reducing the average age of the squad.

These were 2 players we really needed to turnover.

His running stats must be phenomenal. Literally no other reason for this.

I'm no skateboard expert but I just wonder if because of the low centre of gravity it makes it a bit easier for shorter people and 12 and 13 year olds will fall into this category ? Maybe it'll become more difficult for Sky etc. when they get taller.

Heard it here first dwarf skateboarding 🛹 they'll sweep the medal tables  8)

Matt Phillips  ::)

Done enough to get that contract extension again. How old will he be in July 2024 out of interest?

You could not make it up.

Notice he says wingbacks and no. 6 when apparently they're wide midfielders and we're not using a 6 it'll be a double 8...

 :) :P

A 12-month extension now for Sam with a release clause for £8m next summer if we don't go up, but with a 12-month extension option on our side if we do go up (with a £12m release clause).  That's the sort of deal I'd look to do with him if possible.  A fair deal for all parties.

I can't face another month of Johnstone in our goal never mind 2 years. I'm hoping (awful I know) that Lloris or similar picks up a semi serious injury in the next few weeks.

chap owns Saudi blades and English blades

The Sheffield United owner has nothing AT ALL to do with this Saudi club.

If we get one more post mixing up Al Hilal of the UAE and Al Hilal of Saudi, I reckon Jacko's lap top might be going up the wall  🤣

Every chance mate!!

Also not biting further  ;D

Could they then loan him to the blades and still pay his new wages? 🧐

IT'S A DIFFERENT CLUB IN A DIFFERENT COUNTRY.

How often do clubs get a tax audit by HMRS? I mean it took years for Rangers to get found out.

Never. HMRC on the other hand  ;) ;D

Sheffield United's owner is a Saudi Prince, the football club he owns, Al Helal United is based in Dubai.

Just looked it up.

I know mate, I looked it up 2 hours ago.  ;D

Smith has barely won a match without Jack Grealish for 3 seasons. A few panic buys will make no difference to his shambolic record.

Dark horses for the drop.

One thing I haven’t seen mentioned is the alleged Saudi “interest” in Lai’s other businesses, that was mentioned during our recent head coach search.

Could they be putting pressure on him to sell at a cut price also?

Who? Do you mean the Wilder decision. If so it was the UAE. Not Saudi Arabia.

Yeah i watched it. No real revelations outside the tweet just confirmed Pereira is desparate to go, pushing the club to let him go get his payday, WBA sound fed up of him. Deal is close just need to fine tune the fee. Take from that what you will.

Can't see us selling on the cheap because he's annoying the back office  ;D

Fair enough mate but Romano is on the ball and rarely wrong. Hopefully this is one of those times he is.

Did you go on his twitch? What exactly did he say in addition to his tweet?

West Bromwich Albion FC / Re: Matheus Pereira
« on: Yesterday at 08:01:43 PM »
No and no, despite all the posts suggesting it is a done deal. What does concern me is that Lai has a business relationship with the owner of the Saudi club and as per the times story seemed happy to prepare an underhand deal when a sale was being discussed last January.

He hasn't got a relationship with him. The Sheffield United owner also owns Al Hilal of the UAE 3rd tier. Pereira is linked with the Saudi club Al Hilal.

And if a bid doesn’t come in and he doesn’t want to be here then what?

Tough luck. Like Zaha and numerous others before him.

It doesn't matter that he "only wants to go to Saudi".

Our stance should remain, meet our demands regards transfer fee or he's going nowhere.
