Title: FA Cup 3rd Round - Charlton Athletic (A)
Post by: Baggies on November 29, 2019, 10:45:40 PM
The FA Cup 3rd round draw takes place Monday. I still love the third round draw. The excitement of who get to take on, even if it is in front of a reduced crowd.

I’d love another crack at Man Utd, while the likes of Liverpool and Villa would be good fun as well. Really don’t want Wolves as I feel our style plays in to their hands, but also want to avoid another Championship team.

Prem teams only please (or a non league side, why not).

Non championship ideally.

If we had to get a premier league side then I will go for Villa at home or Spurs away (new stadium) with a huge allocation.
Lower league I would like Solihull Moors.

Would love one of the lowest teams in the draw away, for a bit of a change! Living in the South i have an eye on the Bristol Rovers v Plymouth game and hoping Plymouth win but a draw away to either. Exeter away too would do.

Looking at team left; Solihull Moors, Chichester City, Dover, Boston, Crawley, Maidstone.

You get 3 attempts at this with Fylde and Fleetwood in the draw.

On a selfish point, Lower league team at home as I'll be in Cape Town so miss it  :D

Agree. No glamour ties, just as easy as possible all the way to the final and hope the big guns get shot down.
If we win the FA Cup by beating Barnsley in the final, our name will still be engraved on the trophy and i will go happy to my grave!  :)

I went to all the matches in '68.
From Colchester away to the brilliant end.
(Keeping the Colchester stub made a Wembley ticket certain, even though I didn't know at the time of the Colchester match).
It would be really great if you young 'uns can have the same outcome.

Last time we played charlton in round 3 we were on a March in the league under total football Tony mowbray and got to the semi final hopefully we can replicate that.

The only blemish on billic record with us is our poor showing in the league cup. Hopefully we treat the fa cup with the respect it deserves

Those players definitely need some game time and augmented with a few 1st teamers and maybe a couple of U23's we can put out a team that will get the job done.

Something like:
                                                              Bond
                   Furlong                  O'Shea             Hegazi         Townsend

                                                 Barry              Harper

                    Edwards                          Krovinovic                   Willock

                                                        Zohore

subs:  Al Habsi, Ferguson, Bartley, Brunt, Diangana, Pereira,  HRK .

Confused ! Anyone who can walk from st Pancras to Charlton in 15mins should have a rack full of Olympic gold medals, and if you mean Euston to at Pancras is 15 mins the opposite applies, it’s virtually next door!!

Get the tube to the emirates skyline near the dome cross river on said skyline and a gentle stroll to the ground!

Derby play Palace in the FA cup, but Derby play on the Thursday night. So I would imagine that game is more likely to move and ours stay as-is. Bit your right it all gets confirmed this weekend.

There's a good few advance fares at the moment, long as you don't mind getting a fixed time train...
You can go from New Street to Euston, or Moor Street/Snow Hill to Marylebone.
ie;

does anybody know how to then get from Euston to the ground? as 10 miles away.

thank you

From Euston either;

1. Northern Line (black) Southbound (Morden) - alight at London Bridge.
2. From London Bridge, either a South Eastern Railway service to Dartford (Platform 6) or Cannon Street (Platform 1) OR a Thameslink service to Rainham (Platform 4). Probably be waiting, at most, 15 mins for any of them. Alight at Charlton and the ground is very near.
£4.30 if using contactless payment.

OR

1. 10 min walk east along Euston road to St Pancras Station (the pretty building, not King's Cross but right next door)  ... or the Victoria Line (light blue) or Northern Line (black) will also take you there without having to go outside.
2. From St Pancras Platform A (it's underground down an escalator at the far end of the station), a Thameslink service towards Rainham. Every half an hour at :02 and :32. Journey takes 32min. Alight at Charlton.

From Marylebone:

 - Same mainline trains but to get to St Pancras, a short walk (10 min) to Baker Street station, then any westbound Circle/Hammersmith&City/Metropolitan Line train (yellow/pink/purple).
 - Or, to go to London Bridge instead, again a short walk to Baker Street station but this time it's the Jubilee Line (silver) southbound (toward Stratford). Alight at London Bridge.

If you have a half-decent phone, you should use an app called Citymapper; it's very useful for these situations. Make sure it knows where you are, tell it where you want to get to by address or on a map and it'll show you a choice of the quickest or otherwise best ways to get there by all public transport.
It even has data for the West Midlands now :P

And both teams from south-east London !

I hope I never get in your taxi!

Just looked at our up coming fixtures over Christmas / new year see what aways I might be able to do.

Almost certainly be a heavily weakened side in the cup because with how it falls this year the FA cup is right after 3 games in 6 days (thur-sun-wed).

How do you know he drives a taxi?
If he doesn’t, why would you get in one that already has a fare ?

I’m concerned about your hobbies 😂

All games that weekend are kicking off a minute late something to do with mental health awareness.

Would someone be so kind as to come on here and indicate when the more central areas of the stand have been released for sale please I am a HST  and don't fancy being in the far corner for this one

I went to a cup match at Leyton Orient, must be ten or twelve years ago.  Similar arrangement with flats overlooking the ground and a rather well oiled young lady who (with significant encouragement from the baggies faithful), delivered a cleavage flash.  I think that got a bigger round of applause than any action in the match!

I think quite a few are waiting for the next couple of blocks to go on sale before they purchase (me included) for this very reason, which unfortunatley means it's stuck with a couple of hundred tickets in the only 2 open blocks that nobody wants to buy. Hopefully the club realise and get the next blocks opened up.

Might speed things up if those wanting tickets for the more central areas bought one for the areas that are available and then swapped them over once the other areas are available. If that is possible.

I'm sure I've read somewhere that away ticket sale block order is at the discretion of the home team.

Just looked on the OS.

The order of block ticket sale release is the same for the league game too.

Utterly pants.

The league game is already down to the last 500 or so tickets - it's going to be a great away day out for us by the looks!

The Cup Game predictably sold most of the seats within 30 mins of it openeing but don;t know if Charlton will open up any more blocks now until the rest are filled. Will probably only be a 3rd of how many we are taking for the league the following week.

So far only the lower tier is on sale for both games. The lower tier holds about 1,950 and our maximum allocation is 3,400. The cup game is nowhere near sold out as only three blocks (A, B and C) have gone on sale thus far. I might have another look if there's anything decent in Block D (I prefer being central and to the back) for the cup game as I don't see us having a 3,400 turn out for a game which is being repeated the week after. I'll probably hold out for the upper tier going on sale in the league game though.

Sod it, in a moment of weakness I've just bought tickets towards the front for both games.

Can't miss the league game anyway, it's my birthday and the wife's paying  ;D .

damn, I was meant to put "Sold most of the seats in the middle block near the goal", didn't mean the whole thing, my bad.

To be fair I am an away season ticket holder, and have found that by attending the ticket office,  rather than going online, I have sometimes been able to get a ticket in an area not yet released online.
I am not sure whether this is the norm, and I do feel that this should always be the case for ASTH's and should be part of the deal. There are not that many of us for it to be a problem.

I'm a Home Season Ticket holder and called into the Ticket Office on the way to work a couple of days ago and got seats in Block D Lower even though that Block wasn't yet released online so yes, it does seem that if obtaining the tickets direct from the Ticket Office in person (appreciate for many this is not a convenient option) then more Blocks are available than if trying online only.

Not quite sure why this is? but the tickets showing as sold online for the Cup match don't reflect sales from Block D which you can get in person.
