we are the cruiser weight who tries stepping up to heavyweight gets battered and comes back down to cruiser where a load of welterweights are trying to step up, so we batter the welterweights,
Yes at some point we either do over a couple of heavies or get done over by very good welterweights but at some point you have to accept you are not going to be Heavy weight champion of the world or Uk even.

Someone once said "we know what we am" and its a good maxim,  no good comes from deluding ourselves, just disappointment and frustration.  But yes its nice when you put a heavy on his ar5e !!
Maybe thats why the cups were so enjoyable (once upon a time)

Should never have been sacked in the first place. Superb job everywhere he has gone. That was our high point.

I would MUCH prefer this option to Allardyce, but we would need owner to be patient when he got us back up. (unlikely IMO)

with how cynical clubs are about not playing players and triggering clauses, it would be naïve in the extreme of players and agents to sign away their rights as you describe, "the club trigger it regardless of the player's wishes." wouldn't it??

Good manager, no idea how much it would take to prise him away from Ipswich.

Hasn't hit the ground running at Ipswich, remains to be seen how he gets on there, new board at Portman road may give him some cash to build with, (re-assess his progress at xmas IMO)

They have some fabulous players KDB is an amazing talent. Jesus would walk into almost any team on the planet, Sergio is as natural a finisher as you will see anywhere (except from the spot - weirdly).

all this becomes irrelevant though when the club participates in a fixed "competition", the circus is full of amazingly talented people but its a spectacle not a competitive environment.
If the game continues along this route it will become a caricature of what it was, much like WWE and the NFL  (why is college football more popular than the NFL?)

No Kudos in winning a fixed game, sorry thats cynical but any club that wants to be in a league with no relegation is not a competitive club, its a sham !!!!

Regardless Nigel Person whilst one of the better shouts is an absolute nutter and a bit too unstable.
Nah! he is just a character  ;D  I like his abrasiveness mixed with unusual communicative skills

As my Dad used to say, if you aim to be the best you might not achieve it, but at least you'll probably do okay.  If you aim to be average, you'll end up achieving nothing.   Applies generally in life, but also to football clubs.

thats an argument I haven't heard before and sounds like a good attitude to stuff, just a shame football (like life) isn't fair

Chumpionship for Champions League, who could blame him???

Shame but if any truth in this and he will go.
Evans / Barnes / Periera, oh what could have been with some astute leadership of the club

You are saying albion have the choice of:

A) extend Sam's contract by a year and get a fee OR
B) let Sam leave on a free and get NO fee.

Which one do you think we will choose???

Sam has to sign the contract for it to be of any use to us

I find getting slaughtered for being realistic bizarre

If you start from a position of reality you will not be so disappointed when that reality bites or indeed when it gives you a hug which is only transient.

Silk purse, sows ear.   At PL level it is all about the quality of player.  You can't motivate a player into being PL quality.

bull, how many players of great ability have been de-motivated by poor man management???

How did a Leicester team with Wes Morgan as captain win the league??

How did Fergie get his teams to win numerous leagues motivation (fear) was a factor for sure

all clubs are a reflection of their ownership,
A. Jack Hayward / Jack Walker / Dave Whelan / Coates - Threw money at a vanity projects and died or lost interest.
B. Abramovic / Sheiks / Oligarchs - Clubs are Status symbols, pure and simple.
C. Glazers / Fenway / Vile owners - Americans looking for new worldwide markets

Then there are clubs like ours trying to compete with all of the above, we are a relative basket case,  a self made accountant who when offered £200m couldnt believe his luck, grabbed the cash and ran, A chinese consortium which in global terms is a tiny player who wanted global exposure but got stuffed by a political change of policy.

What chance of us competing, very little if more of A/B and C move into the market we either get acquired or continue to slide down the table. The point about historical record being irrelevant is valid, the world has forgotten everything pre-Premier league yet alone the late 1960's.

Its horrible to say this but given our location / funding / fan base, we have been over achieving for a while and indeed the prospect of "success" is likely to recede without very "smart" management, and we all know that we dont currently have this "smart" commodity.
We have a romantic notion of being a top 20 club but over the last 10 or 20 years ???

I fail to see how he is not here next season, his business interests are not going to be able to tolerate a £100m loss off the balance sheet, are they?

100000% this. Myself and others on here suggested the very same thing before a ball was kicked.

Yep, but someone would have had to tell the owner, which was a career limiting move !!
