If Preston fail to beat Southampton tonight, realistically they can't catch us.

In that case it will be Leeds which will be tough but I suppose same can be said of Southampton.
Or Leicester, or Ipswich or possibly Southampton. All difficult.

BTA's contribution didn't help at all, but we were struggling to break them down before that. We created very few clear cut chances. Even when our wingers get in behind, their crosses are not being converted.

He has to play though. Not his fault. CC doesn't like any of the young strikers so he will play.

The decision to leave Maja out of todays game was stupid but we can't do anything about it now
Maja hasn't proved anything yet.

Massively against the run of play. Need to somehow slvage something from this. We are the better team, but Sunderland will throw even more behind the ball now. Best news Cov losing 2-0.

Has he actually needed to bring in anyone on a transfer fee?

Well done Mikey, but probably just added several million to his selling price.

Probably knows himself he made a blunder. If not, his wife or partner, needs to urgently book an appointment for him at an optician.

Overall we did just about enough, but I don't think it was one of our better performances. We didn't create that much and the few chances we did were wasted (mainly through BTA). A better team than Rotherham would probably have scored.
I hope it was a case of CC using it to give minutes to as many squad players as possible. But as he would probably say, a lot of our football lacked intensity.

Looking forward to it, watched Sunderland the other night and they are a typical championship side clattering into the back of opposition players and willing to run until they drop or substituted.  As Ballard goes in, he makes sure his foot goes down the ankle.  Jack Clarke is the main danger - show him down the outside.
Maybe just as important not to pick up any injuries with Play-Offs on the horizon. On the otehr hand, we can't afford to slip up against Sunderland.

Well absolutely but if that decision had been against us I'd have been incensed. Not bothered about Norwich, Coventry, it's up them to win their games as much as it is up to us to win ours. I'm just feeling a bit of injustice, doesn't sit well at all.
Yes, I like to win fair and in some way the extra goal flatters us.

It looked like the players were told to ease off after the first goal. However, BTA always works incredibly hard, but he misses far more than he scores, and they weren't difficult chances tonight.

Anyone feel inclined to pop over to the Rotherham Forum and say sorry for the referee?
Doesn't really alter their season. Its Norwich, Coventry who might have lost out.

Never a peno...feel bad for the (few) Rotherham fans. Usually used to those decisions going against us. I don't like to rag on the ref but that was one of the worst decisions I've seen
It's only academic really to Rotehrham. Its Coventry , Norwich etc. who might be effected.

Relieved as 1-0 is always a risky scoreline to defend, but no way was it a penalty. Overall we are very slow on the ball. I wish we would play with more intensity and speeden things up.

Just been reading that Blues are intending to build a new stafium, sicken me when we cant even rebuild Halfords
Bit unlikely given where Blues are now. And by the way I hope they stay up.

It obviously makes sense to encourage the next generation of (potential) supporters.

I wonder whether the youngsters might be influenced by the sort of pre-match entertainment they see from watching American Football on TV/stream - I know its all about razzmatazz and very little about actual playing, flowing  action .

I think all football clubs will need to try harder as the coming generation are not so used to the spartan fare that I experienced (gladly) when I first went to the Hawthorns.  At least it seemed easy to park and get to the ground.
Even if we have an American owner, hope we don't see too much US style pre-match razamtazz etc. American Football, baseball etc have evolved differently to football as we know it, and part of the matchday experience here, is the typical football atmosphere in the stadiums.  That 'should' be mainly generated by the crowd and fans and not outside gimmicks.

2 games with a big impact for us this evening. Norwich at Sheff Wed. and Coventry at Southampton. If Norwich win, they overtake us. If Coventry win, they are just 3 points behind with a game in hand.

Weighted by minutes, we have the oldest squad in the league. I think it's noticeable also how we don't rotate at full back - it's a guarantee that Furlong and Townsend will start and more often than not play 90 minutes.

Not saying Furlong and Townsend are perfect by any means, but most managers are reluctant to rotate defenders. There has to be alot of trust and understanding between the back 4 players (and the keeper) , and if you are chopping and changing too often, they have to re-adapt to one another.

The 3 things that make a CC a top manager for me are;
a) He gets the best out of the players he has available.  You can see clear improvements in the all round ability of certain players since he's been here. e.g. Bartley playing out with the ball to the etxent that he has it in his locker to deliver 30 metre passes. e.g. Phillips who has been alot more consistent than under previous managers.
b) His ability to change things which are not working during matches. Although he often makes changes around the 60 min mark regardless, which will be much to do with the fatigue-freshness factor, as well as tactical reasons, the changes generally seem to bring improvements.
c) He analyses players and opponents in a scientific and detailed way, rather than just gut instinct. Not saying his predecessors never did, you just get the feeling he does it more thoroughly.
Obviously he makes mistakes and he'd probably be the first to admit he's more to learn, but when you look around the possible alternatives, I think we've got one of the best up and coming managers, who's already ahead of many who've been in the game for years.

This really is a must win, as all our other matchs are potentially more difficult. The factor 'momentum' is so important in this part of the season. Its what Coventry, Hull and Norwich may be building up, so we have to keep ours going.

I wouldn't make too many changes v Rotherham as players take time to adapt to new groupings in the team. If you chop and change too much, you break up some partnerships where players instinctively gel together.

Disappointing as we needed the 3 points, with Coventry, Norwich and Hull getting some form together.  However, on the balance of play, you can't really argue that Stoke deserved to get something from it. Palmer made a couple of vital saves first half.  Despite giving away the pen. I thought M'Villa sharpened things up in the middle and with Fellows getting past his full back 3 times, we looked the most likely to win it at the end.

Hope we can try and take a bit of advantage of that wind and cause some chaos in their area.
You'd expect Stoke to be better at adapting to it, if its there most weeks. It may work to their advantage at the other end now.

We are fortunate to be ahead on the balance of play. Stoke have had several excellent chances and a couple of top saves by Palmer. That wind causing havoc but Stoke must be used to dealing with it.

Norwich close the gap to one point after their win today v Ipswich. We need 3 points to keep that gap. Remember, we have Leicester away to come.

Interesting that we have this thread, but a number of posters have referred to other teams new stadiums as “soulless bowls”
It’s the fans that make the atmosphere…not the stadium designers.
Interesting point, but I don't think the home atmosphere would be any better if it was inside a typical 'identikit bowl'.  In a bowl the crowd is further from the pitch. Its not just the modern ones. The old Stamford Bridge had a running track or something around the pitch and Chelsea made a point of re-designing their stadium closer to the pitch. If you look at the stadiums where the crowd is closest to the pitch, that definitely gives their teams an edge.
