I would have thought that it would be more likely to see Griffith’s shirt up there rather than Cann? As we recalled him in January it would be strange for him not to be in the squad if Palmer is injured.  Maybe Griffith is starting?

Just got home from the game. (I live in Peterborough). Not much to report. First half lots of possession but lacking in final third. Grant as a lone striker with support from Wallace. Didn’t really work. Lot of play spread through Molumby who looked good. Second half pretty poor but mainly due to some strange changes. Dike looked a bit off the pace but today was all about fitness. And it was blooming hot!

Anyone know about the tickets etc for Stevenage? It says on the club website to buy them from Stevenage themselves but on their site it says that the away stand tickets can’t be bought online

I never like to see anyone lose their job but it’s not worked out for VI. At Barnsley he had a young g squad of ok players who were able to play his high intensity style. The players here were/are of a different quality and have not settled to the style. In addition we expect to see attractive football and even when we were winning it wasn’t easy on the eye. Shame but there we go. Lord knows who we get next. Do we go for a short term appointment?

Generally I’m happy with the business that we have done. I’d rather hang onto the money we have than buy someone for the sake of it. I know it’s early days but 13 points from 15 isn’t bad. Especially when you consider that we have played 2 sides that are expected to be there or there abouts, 1 side that is a top 6 contender (Luton) one middling team that is hard to beat on their home ground (Blackburn). We were below par against Peterborough but still ground out a win. Yes the squad is a bit thin in some places (particularly right back) but all in all I’m satisfied. Could have been a lot worse (as it has been in the past). Re Perreira I’m not sure he would have fit into VIs style so better off gone and as others have said, clubs weren’t falling over themselves to sign him.

Looking forward to this. I live in Peterborough so it’s a short trip for me. I’ve been a few times to see Posh. The ground is ok. There’s 2 old stands. One is terracing behind the goal. They have given us one of the new stands behind the goal. I’ve always enjoyed going there and it’s what I would call a proper club. Unless it’s changed you could even pop out for a cigarette at half time! We should on paper win comfortably but both sides have a history of unpredictability! That said I’m going for 2-0 to us.

Does anyone know if there are tickets left? I live in Peterborough and can’t get to many home games so am having to rely on general sale? Alternatively does anyone have a spare?

I do think it’s time for a reappraisal of Sam. Tonight he was immense and he’s getting better and better. Everyone rates him except it seems some of our fans

Played one of the top 4 teams and got a point. Before the game I’d have taken that. So yep happy with that especially as we haven’t got the full team yet.

I was at the game today and I thought that we were excellent. Ferguson is some player! Cannot fault anyone tbh.
Chatting to so QPR fans on the way home and they thought we were way the better team. Also they were rather unfairly moaning about their keeper. At fault for the first but made a couple of good saves late on. Couldn’t understand why their lot were so quiet. Maybe the early kick off.
Finally just an observation on Jake Livermore. It seems like every game now that someone says to me, “Im not a fan of him but he played well today” I think Slav’s approach is bringing out the best in him.

I assume that Diangana is allowed to play by West Ham? I suspect that SB will field a strong side and look to try out some of the new guys but also I think he’s going to take this competition seriously

I think that the benefits of keeping him will be felt more on the training ground and in the dressing room. Great to be keeping his experience and knowledge to pass onto our younger players. It’s a yes from me

It’s a food chain thing. Basically as one of the bigger clubs in the championship we are first call after the premiership. The big six get most of their deals done early on because they are the most attractive in terms of money and stature. Then the rest of the premiership get on with their business and it’s then that deals either fall through leaving the player to look elsewhere or a deal is done leaving a player surplus to requirements. I’m sure that behind he scenes every club is waiting for the dominos to fall on their particular deal. We aren’t a particularly vocal club when leaking speculation etc. The positive side of that is that we have pulled off some great deals that have come as a surprise. The downside is that no news in football terms is not often taken as good news.
Some players are waiting for the best club to come along and some clubs are holding out for the best deal (eg Newcastle with Gayle).
Personally I love transfer deadline day and the worst news I could ever hear is that my club stating that their business is finished.

I was lucky enough to see the 3 degrees on many an occasion somfor me it has to be Laurie Cunningham. More recently I'd probably go with Enzo Maresca or Jason Koumas

West Bromwich Albion FC / Who really wants promotion?
« on: January 13, 2019, 08:52:34 PM »
Don't post on here much but just driving down the M40 listening to 606 it reminds me of how much I disliked being in the Premier league. Yes there were a few great days but we would start out each season hoping to reach 40 points. We lost more than we won and we ended up sacrificing entertainment for results - basically working towards being 17th. Mid table was a success and that was about it. This year we start every game with an expectation of winning - and more often than not we do. We score bucket fulls of goals in the process and there is proper entertainment again. Sadly we need to go up for the money and endure the misery of at least 1 season for the Sky money. What has the game become?

I don't think our business is necessarily done. If Chadli leaves to go abroad we will sign a loan or loan to permanent player to replace him. If he does stay then he will be an asset to the team. He's going to have to put himself in the shop window at least as despite a decent World Cup, we've not been inundated with offers. Having said this, I'd be surprised to see him play for at least a couple of weeks. I noticed that a fair few premier league teams are still resting their World Cup players who reached the last 4 so I think we will too.
I'm hoping that Dawson knuckles down and gets on with what he's good at.
I'm also hoping for good things from Barry as he is easily good enough for this league.
Maybe I'm wrong but I think we will be ok

General Football & Sports / Re: Darren Moore
« on: August 08, 2018, 06:20:24 PM »
I think we need to put things into some perspective here. Darren Moore inherited a squad of players that on paper looked fine but at least a season of pretty incompetent management from Pulis and especially Pardew can't be turned around overnight.
So we got relegated. Players obviously would rather move to clubs who can match their pre relegation wages (why wouldn't they?). Therefore there is still a fair bit of uncertainty around who is staying and who is leaving. Moore sensibly is being cautious with these players as they are unlikely to give their all and risk an injury calling a halt to their chances of a transfer.  Where players have left then he has signed strong replacements but they need time to play as a team.
People are moaning about loan signings. For me it makes sense. As a club we don't want to commit to buying a player who might not cut it in the premier league and therefore is a liability should we get promoted. Similarly players like Barnes would never come to us on a permanent basis in a month of Sunday's whilst we are in the championship. But if we get promoted then of course things may change.
I keep hearing that we should play the kids. When the team is as it is, it is absolutely the wrong time to bring them in. If the crowd get on their backs they are not experienced enough to deal with it. And let's face it even the best players did not walk into a team and become the finished article (remember Christian Ronaldo at the Hawthorns in the league cup?). I recall Scott Darton. When he was picked people were saying great - giving he kids a chance. He had a couple of mares in a struggling team and the fans made him the scapegoat and pretty much destroyed his career.
Finally if we expect to go to Forest who are potentially doing a dingles and expect to play them off the park then that level of arrogance belongs at Villa Park.
Rant over!

Don't post on here very often but to me it seems as if we are a little bit in limbo. We didn't play Dawson and Rondon (and Chadliwas unavailable). These are on paper very strong players in key positions. The lack of certainty around their future and the consequent need to replace if they leave meant that we, in effect had 4 key players out for today. Coupled with players who, in some cases have been here for less that a month and are acclimatising and other players are getting used to them, we were today a work in progress. The sooner the Dawson rondon chadli position is sorted the more settled things will become

What about Gary Rowett? Was doing a great job at the Blues until their moment of madness replacing him with Zola. He's now doing well at Derby. We could do much worse
