Yes I was there mate, and a very enjoyable evening it was. At the end a rousing chorus of "There's only one Gary Megson" from a primarily middle -aged audience , I think bought a little tear to the eye.
He said that he was not asked to stay on until the end of the season, but he would have done so if he had been asked. He would not be drawn as to whether he thought we would have stayed up under his tenure.
He thought his best signings were Zoltan, Johnno, and Jason Koumas ,and he thought JK was "absolutely brilliant" but a very strange lad, who initially turned us down because he could not bear to leave his mates behind.
He clearly loved Hughsie, but he said a couple of times " how bloody stupid " and wrong to do what he did.
When the media were chasing for the "Hughes story" the board did a runner and left him to face the music.
He was asked about his relationship with Jeremy Peace. Who he described as a "brilliant mathematician and not much else"
When asked about any falling out with Bob Taylor, he said there was no falling out as such, just a drfting apart and commented
" sometimes as a player you recognise when your legs have gone , and sometimes someone else has to decide for you" or words to that effect.
He said the Paul Thompson told him that we did not want to be promoted because we were not ready and had no infrastructure
for the Prem. Gary told him "you can't pick and choose when to get promoted"
"My first game away to Stockport, my old club, and I thought If I go marching out there , they are going to give me some real stick. I thought I'll let them kick off and just sneak out to the bench. I was to late, before I got out of the tunnel F*****g Hugshie scored and so I missed my first goal!
He said he would come back again and loved the Albion fans
