The lets support Andy Murray to Wimbledon victory thread
« on: June 21, 2015, 09:33:17 PM »
That time of year again when we all declare our love for the greatest British tennis player to have ever came out of these islands

The great one has won the Queens Tournament in preparation of an eagerly anticipated Wimbledon victory.

I'm sure everyone on westbrom.com wishes the great one the very best in the upcoming tournament  ;D

(not strictly the thoughts of everyone)

On a more serious note - anybody looking forward to Wimbeldon? I'm making me first appearance this year on Mens quarter finals day - unfortunately its clashes with the start of the Ashes.

Is anybody going to stop Djokovic?

Personally, I hate Tennis so, I couldn't give a toss whether Murray wins or loses.

I've played most sports and consider myself pretty decent at most of them. I've given Tennis a go and I can barely hold the bat properly....

I really used to enjoy watching tennis in the days when there were real characters, good guys, bad guys, like Nastase, McEnroe, Borge, Conners, Ashe, Cash, Becker and before them Laver, Emerson, Hoad, Cox, Taylor, Fraser, some real firebrands amongst those names as well as great tennis players and apologies if I've missed a great from those eras.

However, in today's tennis I think it is more clinical and there doesn't appear to be the characters in the game for me anymore and as a result I don't enjoy it as much, probably something to do with my age as well.

I would love to see Andy Murray win again, I enjoyed his last championship win at  Wimbledon and was really pleased for him as I was when he won the American open, he has his views they may not always be what we would like, but he is the best tennis player Britain has produced since Fred Perry. I will be rooting for him this year as well.

But, if I were a gambling man, my money would be on Djokovic, who I voted for, and that will probably put the mockers on his chances, sorry Novak. So Game, Set and Match Andy then.

Tennis is a great game, I play three times a week.

May I suggest you get a little coaching, as with most things, get the basics right and it all gets much more enjoyable.

I really don't understand the beef some have with Murray. Sure he has the personality of a house brick, but other than that I'll be rooting for him.

I'll be rooting for him. I think he has a great chance of winning, he's in great form. Just won Queens and had a really good clay court season pushing Djokovic to 5 sets on his worst surface. It'll either be Murray or Djokovic who wins it in my opinion.

I don't get why many of you hate him so much. Yeah he ain't got much of a personality but he's extremely professional and is very good at what he does so respect to him.

Anyone but Murray for me, can't stand the "we're scottish not british attitude that he personifies"

I will never forgive them for decking the kids out in Argentina shirts to support the Argies against England, its one thing to be anti england yourself but do not brainwash kids against us.

Cannot stand the man.

Needs to remember that he had to come to the country he detests in order to make him the player that he is, and how does he repay us???

The Argentina and Portugal shirt incidents sum it up for me. A horrible tempestuous idiot....... I will support anyone playing him regardless.

I am also a Nico Rosberg fan due to Hamiltons 'spoilt brat' attitude..... but thats another story.

Slightly off topic, but David Beckham let his kid's wear Argentina tops for the World Cup Final against Germany.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/worldcup2014/article-2690728/David-Beckham-boys-Maracana-World-Cup-2014-final-looks-like-theyre-supporting-Argentina-showdown-Germany.html

Wearing another country's colours goes against the grain for me, just as wearing another club's colours would too.
It doesn't matter how many resources you have.
If you don't know how to use them, they will never be enough.
Oh, and always remember to defecate on those Vile chaps in claret and spew.

So in a similar vain, do you dislike people who say "I'm English, not British"?

And I really don't see the problem regarding the football shirts. It's a bit of banterous rivalry, he is not anti-English, he has an English wife!

If he detested England so much do you think he'd live in London, cry when he won Wimbledon and have an English wife?!

there was a time when i would "support" Celtic, rangers , Aberdeen .... rather than Johnny Foreigner, but the (IMO) hardening of anti-english sentiment in scotland has reached such a level that I wish the seperatists had got their own way.

So English first British second is fine by me.
I suspect most (sorry 49% was it) of Scots would say scottish first, second and last...

And yes, I would support Cardiff, Swansea, Wrexham or Coleraine before Johnny Foreignor.
