If finishing 18th means we could have the funds to sign Yokuslu then I’m all for it..

Unless the club opt for an unknown left field appointment then the list just goes to show how poor the quality of candidates that are out of there.

This appointment will be risky enough given the incompetencies of the owners and Dowling. We are also likely to require a overhaul of the playing staff.

For me, the safest option is giving the job to Sam Allardyce.

What Bruno Labbadia been up to lately? He was rumoured to have had several interviews before we opted for Bilic. Wonder if he will be back in the frame again

Regardless Nigel Person whilst one of the better shouts is an absolute nutter and a bit too unstable.

Where are you putting your money so we can interrogate your suggestion?  ;D

Can we add Mr Nigel Pearson please

Hasn’t he just signed a new 3 year deal with Bristol City?

Frank Lampard, need to include him. Great job at Derby, prematurely sacked at Chelsea. Would play to the strengths of Pereira and Grady and bring though the younger players like Tulloch. Also good contacts at the bridge to raid their massive squad.

I’ve added him - I just thought it was unlikely. I could see him holding out for a job at a club like Palace rather than joining our managerial graveyard.

West Bromwich Albion FC / New Manager Thread
« on: May 11, 2021, 09:11:59 PM »
Following our relegation from the Premker League and the clause within Sam Allardyce’ contract, we have agreed to create the following thread for all future managerial discussion as we plan our next steps.

This should prevent the other threads on the forum from being taken over by the managerial speculation.

A poll has been added for members to vote on their preferred candidate. The names within the poll have been taken from the previous bookmakers odds for the hot seat. Some current out of work managers who were linked previously have been added. Willing to add more if I’ve missed someone obvious.

Who is it you play for mate? Really wished I played cricket as a kid. 29 is a bit to old to start out  :(  ;D

Not at all mate - we have a couple of mid forties and 50 year olds in our local club. As Jacko says, it doesn’t have a particularly great uptake but thankfully those involved aren’t your Bertie big balls types. Proper chaps doing it because it’s enjoyable

Nothing better than a few bottles of beer with your pals after a game on a Saturday evening

What are the other options?

Well take a look at some of those gaffers currently out of work as that’s the market we’re in.

It will be either Allardyce or another young, upcoming gamble. If the gamble works then we just ended up crying out for Allardyce in 18 months time.

Rinse and repeat.

When you take away their loan signings they should run close next year

Defenders:

Odoi, Tete, Mawson, Tosin, Hector, Sessegnon, Robinson, Bryan,

Midfielders:

Reed, Carney, Anguissa, Reid, Kabano, Onomah

Forwards:

Mitrovic, Cavaliero, Knockaert,

Their rebuild is not as great as ours when you consider the spine of their team.

Personally I don’t care how we go up as long as we do.

Allardyce is our best bet at achieving that when you consider the other options.

Translates into, "i will stay on my terms only", i dread to think what those terms may be.

I don’t. His terms are likely to get us promoted..

How does him committing to stay make him more professional?
If he was at Fulham and we stayed up and put a bid in...we would accuse him of having no ambition/wasting his talent bu not coming?

I didn’t say it would make him more professional...

You’re trying to play devils advocate again with a post that is not there to be spun..

Anything other than take off one forward and replace him with Kanu.  Did you really see Kanu spurring us on into getting 3 goals?  I'd have at least seen some logic to stuck him on for Gallagher or something, and put an extra man up top.

No - but given Diange was having a night off I’m not surprised we opted for HRK given he can at times hold the ball up.

The next substitution saw the introduction of Diangana.

Aside from that there is very little quality elsewhere to choose from.

I don't understand why the commentators aren't a credible link?  They'll have been around the club and talking to the players/staff all season.  Why would they just make random lies up while on air?  I'm not sure why it would be against our previous recruitment either, to enquire after players in the summer and go back in January?

Like I said, we've no idea what went on in the summer, maybe Bilic said no, maybe Dowling preferred other options, maybe their clubs wanted expensive permanent deals, maybe we ran out of time, could be loads of reasons.

We’re taking the words of some nauseating Peter Drury wannabe commentator as gospel when there has not been one plausible link to Diange from those around the club.

You’re trying to spin my previous recruitment line and you know damn well what I am referring to. All of our recruitment under Luke Dowling has been entirely domestic based aside from the Bilic recommendations of Pereira and Krovinovic. Given our domestic obsession I see it as unlikely that we were courting players from abroad in the summer.

So now it’s his turn...
Is there anybody on here that thinks that it may be a collective season of just not being good enough anchored with a few poor decisions ?

Yes - have you not read the rest of the forum?

The issue for me is are the club financially in a position to reject a bid that meets Stan's lowball valuation? If we are not it opens up signing Pereira to several clubs. If we stick to our guns at a perfectly reasonable £50m it prices everyone aside from the ESL clubs out of the deal.

I'm hopeful but don't trust the hierarchy of this club one bit.

The second issue for me is the reaction of Pereira - if he remains professional and is committed to staying then it certainly allows us to push that evaluation further. If he’s committed to leaving the club then it may force our hand somewhat despite him being under contract. It has already been reported this season regarding his discontent.

I hope Lai and Dowling do not see a quick sale to be made here though I suspect they will.

There have been some good points raised in this thread and many I agree with.

I still cannot fathom how Bilic and Dowling thought it was acceptable to go into a season in this division with a central midfield pairing of Sawyers and Livermore. A dereliction of duty to neglect such a fundamental area of the pitch. The warning signs had been there the season before and it almost feels like an arrogance that we did not address it.

The majority of our problems stem from that midfield base.

He is a better footballer than Sterling, Di Maria and Lukaku.

Everyone last season was raving about the dingle Traore, Barcelona, R Madrid, Juventus all the big guns were looking.

Don't you see an absolute magician of a footballer?  I was watching Real. Madrid, he would definitely get in their team.

Yes - I do see a magician.

It’s a futile argument as we will not be getting 90m and we both know it.

Put us out of our misery and walk away and take Dowling with you 2-0 down and answ. answer to that problem was to bring on HRK  :o.

Well what other options are there?

West Bromwich Albion FC / Re: Matheus Pereira

Why not £90m?  You think Maguire is worth £80m?

The guy is sensational in a poor team.  How about if he played with 11 gifted individuals?

He’s worth what someone is prepared to pay.

We will not be getting 90m on the back of one season.

Based on your worth he would be the second most expensive premier league signing in history ahead of KDB, Havertz, Lukaku, Di Maria, Mahrez, Sterling etc.

If you halve your estimation then you’re in the right ball park and even that is a stretch with covid.
