Too bad it is Sunderland and not Southampton, eh?  ;D

Normally we shouldn't fear Sunderland of course but now with our start our early points are so potentially crucial.

I'd go with this, but swap Wisdom with Baird. I always prefer pacey wingers and think Wisdom is better out wide. I think Sessegnon is a must start in terms of creativity, I don't think Dawson is good enough sadly, but also what's happening about Gamboa and Ideye? Are they not fit yet or what?

Dorrans mulumbu Gardner
Sessegnon ideye berahino

Dawson, simply awful. Brunt, hasn't found his touch. Got to throw ideye in, he'll have a week of training also.

This will be a tough game, Sunderland were excellent at the end of last season and Poyet will have them playing some good stuff. Hoping for a good performance and result but only the first game and still without new signings and injuries to players which will make Irvine's job harder. Obviously with the way pre season has gone three points would calm a lot of people down and give them some optimism for this season. Looking forward to it.

Personally hate the sicknote description....think it gives the view that a player is making the most of injuries to get out of action.
Jones obviously has some serious hamstring issues now. No-one can doubt that he gave 100% every time he turned out for us and was one of our fittest players (stamina wise). He also saw out his contract with us and was free to choose his next option.

A walking wounded team by the sounds of it.I hope we can get a draw out of this and hopefully see some of our new additions, Brown, Gambo for the following game

Biggest concern for me is that we're unable to keep a clean sheet.

Best chance of victory in my opinion with a walking wounded squad is to stay in the game until the last 20-25 mintues before bringing Ideye on.

I know it looks as if I'm putting all the emphasis on the fella but he will give the place a lift (which is needed) and the fans will certainly respond to him.

Of course, this all depends on whether defensively we're able to keep things tight (which in my opinion is a real concern).

Remember Odemwingie 2010? Debut goal, won 1-0 against........Sunderland.

Over to you, Bobby.

I've been starting to think I'd like to see us try a 5-3-2 formation against Sunderland....

                          Foster
         Lescott(CB) Olsson(CB) Gmac(CB)

Gamboa(RWB).                Davidson/Poco(LWB)

                       Mulumbu(DM).

Gardner/Biabiany(RM).          Brunt(LM)

                  Bobby(ST)
                                  Anichebe(ST)

That would be a hard team to beat!

McAuley and Lescott are both injured and will not play. Likewise, Gamboa's first training with the team will be today, so it's unlikely he plays, and there's a strong possibility Brown won't start either.

You wouldn't play 2 wingers with wing-backs - it would leave you with 1 centre mid. Or do you mean RCM and LCM?
