West Bromwich Albion FC / Re: Charlie Austin loaned to QPR

Unless we trigger the extra year on his contract (very unlikely) there won't be a transfer fee will there ?
Exactly why they have not started him, They have him settled and now can sign him up on a free

Given the contract situation and the players eagerness to play in the prem I would happily take anything over £10m

Where did the idea that it was Dowling not Bilic who wanted Diangana signed permanently actually come from ? I distinctly remember Bilic talking about recruitment pre season saying the likes of 'it's important we first secure the people who got us up'. From that I would assume Pereira, Krov and Diangana.

If I am remembering correctly it came from Steve Madeley.

Does anybody know the length of our deal with Puma?
I can't seem to find anywhere that says how long it was but just that it was a multi year deal.

I'd be surprised to see him involved with a football club again after us, think he has learned his lesson.

I've calmed down from last night but I was absolutely livid. I appreciate the chances he creates but my word I beg we don't sign him in the summer, it's like he doesn't know what to do with the ball at his feet. There is no reason to sign a player just because we can sign them on the cheaper side.

If there were to be a points deduction I don't imagine it would be instant, it would likely be for next season so that the likes of arsenal aren't put in any immediate danger.

Someone pointed out that of the signings Dowling and Bilić made in summer 2019, January 2020 and summer 2020 only Darnell Furlong, Connor Gallagher and Matheus Pereira is still involved in the first XI, in DF's case it appears this is solely because there is no alternative.

Absolutely damning.

Here's the hall of shame: Zohore, Austin, Sawyers, Ajayi, Grosicki, Al Habsi, Diangana, Krovinović, Willock, Robinson, Grant, Kipre, Button and Ivanović.

Harsh to include Ajayi there.

Saw something on twitter earlier that i had forgot.

We have a bloke in our squad who has played right back most of his premier league career, he has won the league, champions league, fa cup, everything - Ivanovic!!

With how bad we have been, right back been a problem position, i would be tempted to try him, can it be any worse?!

Teams tear us apart there, we defend deep anyway and whack it long so he wouldnt need to be up and down, so his age and pace shouldnt be too much of a problem and again, can it be any worse that what we have been doing?!

We have to try something, unless we tighten up at the back, we have no chance of survival!

Yes. It absolutely would be with Ivanovic there. There is no chance he would keep up with the left wingers in the league.

I wouldn’t have an issue releasing all those whose contracts expire this year ! The only one worth keeping is Kamil Grosicki and unfortunately that isn’t going to happen . Of those who are still contracted until 2022 or beyond, I would look to transfer Johnstone, Phillips , Sawyers ,Livermore and Grant . Let whoever the manager is, build their own team around what’s left .

I would say that Townsend has earned himself a new contract to be fair, especially going down to the championship.

He played 35 games last season... he was captain played in cup league and champions league last year and was only substituted twice, completing 90 minutes in 33 games.... so I think if his general fitness is fine then this will not be an issue.

Yes but the last time he played 90 minutes was on July 25th in a cup match, something to take into consideration when making this statement.
This conversation is for another thread though.

Apart from the usual I always enjoy grabbing a burger (or two) before the game in the car park.

Brewster going to Sheffield Utd - £23.5m for an unproven Premier league player with potential. Hope Huddersfield don’t use that for Grant as a barometer!!

Makes me think of the Solanke deal to Bournemouth

I watched the same game and agree the four players named played well, however one good performance in five doesn't make them premier league quality.

Hopefully it's a sign of adjustment

I think we will seriously struggle if we do not have a solid LB, with Gibbs' injury record and Townsend our other option we will seriously struggle against a lot of strong attacks with our centre halves having to compensate for the left leaving attackers a lot more room in our defence. I will not play down the importance of other areas that need improving like a good ball winning midfielder and a good striker but i feel our defence can get exploited because of our LB situation.

Then there’s the “trilogy of kits”....hardly anyone is going to buy all 3....but if you but 2 get the 3rd half price ?....

I know it all comes down to preference but I am actually planning on getting all 3  :D
