Now that we know what the rules are then eh? Absolute joke...

I expect Bilic to have the tactics board out tomorrow ready.

Article on SS assessing the last 1/3rd of the season.

https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11688/11926140/the-race-for-the-premier-league

"West Brom and Leeds both looked nailed on for promotion earlier in the season, but a dip in form for both has seen the race for the Premier League become tighter than ever.

With just 16 games to go of the Championship campaign there are a mere six points between West Brom in first and Bristol City in sixth, closer than it has been on this date in any of the past 10 seasons."

(referring to Leeds)
"They still occupy second place heading into the weekend, but that gap has slipped to three points over Fulham, four over Nottingham Forest and five over Brentford and Bristol City. Their next three games? Forest and Brentford away, before meeting Bristol City at home. It is set to be a pivotal week."

Those next 3 games for Leeds could be just as pivotal for us too....how ironic our nearest challenger for the title is also the best defensive screen we currently have against those 3 teams potentially clawing any points back on us to catch us.

Regardless, points will be dropped during those games by our nearest challengers and we need to capitalise. Win the next 3 and we could be back in a strong position like we were before the christmas fixtures..

Here we go then, teams remaining for the 5th round draw on Mon 27th Jan. We're ball number 10.

The next round will be a mid week fixture on or around March 4th with a "win on the night" extra time and pens format; instead of a replay; in the event of a draw.

Who do you want? Home or Away?

1 Manchester United
2 Chelsea
3 Southampton or Tottenham Hotspur (Replay)
4 Sheffield Wednesday
5 AFC Bournemouth or Arsenal (Play 27/01)
6 Northampton Town or Derby County (Replay)
7 Leicester City
8 Sheffield United
9 Reading or Cardiff City (Replay)
10 West Bromwich Albion
11 Norwich City
12 Coventry City or Birmingham City (Replay)
13 Manchester City

General Football & Sports / The Football Money Bubble
« on: May 03, 2019, 10:21:45 AM »
Interesting news coming out of Paris Saint Germain this morning that their Qatari owners are looking to pull the plug on the previously never ending supply of money - with "lack of success on the pitch" being cited as the primary reason.

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-6988343/PSG-funding-pulled-Qatar-ongoing-criticism-France.html

I think a lot of us have always said tongue in cheek that "just you wait until your owner gets bored and pulls the oil money" but I think there have been quite a few examples of that lately actually happening, whether it be due to government policy (China's clampdown on funds out) or perceived lack of success (PSG/Milan) or boredom/loss of owners wealth (Chelsea) and this is not even taking lower leagues into consideration where money troubles are always prevalent (Bolton springs instantly to mind at the moment)

The money bubble has expanded massively over the last 2 decades but there are just some signs at the moment that it's creaking at the seams right now - I don't think anyone is ready for if/when the whole bubble does burst!

West Bromwich Albion FC / Rayhaan Tulloch
« on: February 15, 2019, 12:41:13 PM »
Seems prudent to give young Rayhaan his own thread given that he has now made 2 appearances for us in the cup and there now being a decent chance of him being involved in the game at the Villa tomorrow; given our limited striking options at present (HRK injured, Gayle out, Phillips out, Montero not upto speed, Leko a bit cack)

For me; in spite of how big the game is; I would start him tomorrow! With the instruction to keep making runs at Hutton and Elphick. His pace could frighten them and if nothing else it'll make Hutton think twice about advancing forward as much with the ball down their right hand side in order to cover the threat or open holes for JRod to exploit.

It's clear Tulloch has raw talent, it just needs to be honed. Seems more of a prospect than both Leko and Edwards from what I saw of him as he was lively against Brighton in both games, just needs a bit of composure in and around the box which will only come with more experience.

West Bromwich Albion FC / FA Cup 4th Round vs Brighton & Hove Albion
« on: January 14, 2019, 01:28:02 PM »
Not sure where the old topic for this went, presumably removed. There's also no match template for this in the fixtures section just yet (because the mods are of course, working and/or have lives outside of the board  :D )

But for anyone who had not seen info yet, The tickets for this game went on sale this morning for HST holders after being on sale to AST holders since Saturday.

Have grabbed mine but looks like plenty snapped up already even by about 9.30am when I jumped on! Hopefully a bumper crowd with tickets snapped up.

West Bromwich Albion FC / Fortress Hawthorns - Bring the Noise
« on: November 30, 2017, 10:19:29 AM »
I've commented numerous times before about how poor the atmosphere in the ground has been for pretty much the last 2-3 years, but even before then you could see it draining away slowly before it was pummelled well and truly into the ground by Pulisball.

With a new; attack minded; manager and seemingly the shackles finally being removed, now is the time for us to make the Hawthorns a "Fortress of Noise" again and not just relying on the diehards in the Smethwick to create pretty much the only noise in the ground! (Sorry Brummy road, but at the moment you generally only sing when goaded by the SE)

It's time to re-galvanise the fanbase and get the ground rocking again, I want all 4 stands to be singing their heart out against Palace (and beyond), I want that wonderful matchday feeling to come back for us all, I want that drummer in the Smethwick end to drum until his arms fall off  ;D and I want the opposing teams to fear having to visit the Hawthorns because of the atmosphere rather than being given an easy ride.

Let's get behind the team, get the noise levels up and smash Palace (on the pitch) on Saturday!

COYB!

Don't know if anyone else has already posted this before or discussed it, but thought it might be an interesting read for people :P

Testament to the way Peace runs the club?....or Detriment that we have not pushed on more with our spending?

Personally I feel it can only be considered a good thing. Look at where we are, and look at how strong our position is right now. Many people criticise how 'Tight' Peace can be, but without his Wiley business acumen, we would probably in a far worse position!

The insane Blatter strikes again....how convenient he announces this just after an English team wins against a German team in a penalty shootout.

What on earth could you replace them with? you cant just keep playing and playing until someone scores....
