He will be a decent enough signing,  physical and will press constantly,  he will do what’s asked of him.

Would still like to think someone like Delap will come in too.

No chance of Delap.  Pep has already said he is staying at Man City all season.

Hugill has been around a lot of clubs and no one were keen on signing him.

I'm not expecting anything from him.

Scored 4 goals in 34 appearances for Norwich last season !!

I suppose its another player which we are short of at the moment.

I see central midfield and fullback as a key area for strengthening.

From what I saw last night, we're OK in midfield, if Ajayi is going, he needs to be replaced, we're very weak in defence.
If it was easy, it wouldn't be Albion

Well if Pep signs Ronaldo this morning on a 2-year deal as is rumoured then that would surely change re Delap

So would I though.

His record just isn't very good.

How many more times are people going to trot out the 4 goals in 34 appearances stat? He played 674 minutes last season, so more like 4 goals in 7 games.

If people are going to judge a player solely on stats, at least have an understanding of how stats work.

He’s a decent Championship striker, but we’re the second highest scoring team in England so far, it’s not the priority position when we’ve got 2 senior centre mids at the club.

That's how players are judged, especially strikers.

You are judged on what you have achieved not what you might achieve.

I think we all understand how stats work. You pointing out that he played the equivalent to 7 games makes it worse because he was probably so bad in some of the games he was substituted !!!

We would have been better keeping Robson Kanu or even Charlie Austin and I'm not a fan of either.

How many strikers have we wasted money on in the past ................  too many to mention.

Take a look at his stats last season.

He mainly played off the bench.

He started something like six or seven games last year and scored 3 goals.

No way the CA I watched last year could play high press football, just not mobile enough and HRK.....just no, really no.  Time done and a new face needed.

So a promotion chasing team in the championship didn't think he was good enough to start the majority of the games in the starting eleven but suddenly we think he is good enough for our team.

Amazing !!!

Hugill was kept out of the Norwich side last season by Teemu Pukki, who scored 26 goals in 41 league games, whilst we have...erm...Zohore (Robinson not being a natural centre forward of course).

Who is saying he is going to start?

We have done quite well so far with the three we have up there + Phillips.

Who were you expecting to sign as back up?

I am shocked by some of the negativity. Personally I know little about the guy but, as with anyone who pulls on the shirt, I welcome him and will back him. If VI wants him, that works for me.

He didn’t start for Norwich because they could score enough goals without him. We’ve already proven we can score plenty of goals without him. Who said he’s going to start? We don’t even need a starting centre forward based on what we’ve seen in the first 4 games.

I think that's the relevant point KN22. Like you I am surprised with the negativity with this loan. Not sure what folk are expecting; we know what our financial situation is so Messi was never really an option. Personally I am not expecting any of the alleged £17m Pereira money to makes its way to the transfer kitty.

Lets get behind him shall we?

Welcome Jordan, I am sure VI has big plans for you! ;D

I'm sure we could have got us a more useful loan in, like in midfield.

Preston fans speak highly of his partnership with Robinson when with them. some saying it will only aid our push for promotion

CR is out at the weekend (covid) and lets imagine Diangana gets a knock / pull, who do we call on then, Tulloch injured last night, Zohore ????

Hugill will be needed.

Again, feel the need to pipe in when I see comments about fans expectations. It is perfectly reasonable as a fan to want to see the club target players who have the potential to grow, who have the potential to both get us promotion and then make the step up to the next level, it's perfectly reasonable for fans to want to see permanent signings rather than a loan army given the fact it hasn't served us well enough in recent years and it's perfectly reasonable for fans to want to see us scout from a wider pool than just what's available in the championship market. Longer term thinking, including an imaginative scouting strategy gave us what, an 8 year spell in the top flight at the turn of the last decade? Understandable why that should be the aim.

Hugill will likely be a useful asset this season, but his signing doesn't speak that well for the long term strategy. To me, it's a long term road to simply falling back into being just another championship club.

I have heard all this before when we signed Zohore.

He came with the record of :

16/17   12 goals in 29

17/18    9  goals in 36.

Better figures than Hugill !!!

A lot of fans were saying the same about Zohore when we signed him.

Now he's public enemy number 1  !!!

Lets see what is said about Hugill in 10 matches time !!!

I am shocked by some of the negativity........

1,788 posts on here and you're shocked by negativity towards a signing? Wow, some people never learn  ;D . As for myself I think he's a decent addition to the system.

That said I'm resigning myself to the disappointment he may be our only addition to the forward ranks. Better to be taken by pleasant surprise should we add more.

We now have a focal point..... so let's focus on winning points.

With West Brom and their fans you always get positivity turning to negativity and very rarely negativity turning to positivity.

I can’t speak for other fans but I absolutely didn’t try and justify the Zohore signing. I thought it was crazy from day 1 and expected it would go as it has. I can also safely say Hugill and Zohore will not go down in history in WBA history the same vain.

there is a fundamental difference between Hugill and Zohore.
1 has commitment and effort and that alone will mean he is cut some slack by the fans, the other ....
