Six Nations 2020 thread
« on: January 30, 2020, 08:50:11 AM »
The six nations returns this week, with what might be the most competetive tournament in ages.

We are coming off the back of a world cup final loss, but arguably the deepest player pool in Europe.

Wales and Ireland both have nee coaches so hard to tell what to expect from them.

Scotland have sent fly half Finn Russell home which isn't ideal preparation - it could give Italy a much needed boost as they can't keep finishing bottom if they want to win the argument for no promotion/relegation.

Finally, France might ne the surprise package. After being pretty awful for large parts of the last decade, lots of pundits are tipping them for the title this year. They havr a young squad of players who are being viewed as potential world cuo winners at some point,  so the first game this weekend vs England might be the game of the tournament.

Wales swat aside Italy today - not sure if it is a sign of how good Wales might be in this tournament or just how bad Italy are. With Georgia beating Romania today by a big score in the second tier European champs, the debate won’t go away about promotion and relegation.

Scotland unlucky not to win in Dublin at the death having got within inches of the Irish try line with minutes to go. Neither side should win the championship if this is a good quality year.

Really, really hope we can beat the French tomorrow, even if it is just to prove Welsh rugby twitter wrong who are doing their annual “England aren’t a very good side and will lose every game” shtick.

Well take it from me that's not the intelligent side of Welsh rugby opinion. If anyone actually said that they are on the wind-up...or clueless.

Admittedly i’m slightly exaggerating, but looking online, particularly on twitter, the replies to rugby journalists posts about the English teams (particularly when discussing predictions) always seem to be full of “David from Cardiff” types, picking holes in the England side and explaining why France, Ireland, Uruguay have a very good chance of turning us over.

It feels like it’s an annual thing, so the win would be very satisfying.

All that said, with the anti-English feeling in the continent at the moment, i’m going for a France win.

Hate when games of Rugby are over after less than half an hour. The pressure and tension are the beat bits.

Horrible performance from England. Wasn't convinced Jones should have stayed on after the last cycle and even less convinced now. This French team will be very good over the next 4 years.

Looks like it. The worst thing is, there were holes in both this French side (on another day we would have gone over the try line a couple more times) and the Irish yesterday, so I’m fully expecting the Welsh to still have a shot at the slam when they arrive at Twickenham.

Bad start to the tournament for anyone that hates seeing Welsh rugby do well.

After 1 fixture of round 2, you can already tell the chances of a grand slam are slim.

Ireland have to travel to England and France, while I still find it hard to believe France can go 5 matches unbeaten with such a young side and a tough trip to a wounded Welsh side.

I’m backing Scotland to beat us this afternoon.

Half time,England seem to have a team plan in the atrocious conditions whereas Scotland are running around like headless chickens and into brick walls.
Wind with England now,England to win comfortably now.

It wasn’t the best of games and no wonder with the weather conditions, which  were appalling to play in. But we won and our Six Nations bandwagon is back on the road
