I don't recall him ever being  consistently this bad.

He's definitely not a great footballer and when he's bad yes he is garbage but he's really struggling. Perhaps he doesn't enjoy Valball which I can understand but at end of the day he's on 5 figures a week to kick a ball so just get on with it.

You have to remember the season under Billic, he couldn't hold down a regular start with Ferguson and O'Shea being preferred.

« on: November 25, 2021, 10:11:27 AM »
Hugill is not a natural goal scorer, he is not even able to impose himself on the defense due to his lack of control.

The question off that statement above is why the hell did we take him on-loan ?

I wonder how much we will get when he signs for Villa?

If he is 17, why doesn't he already have a 3 year contract. Do we never learn?

He may have been offered a contract, doesn't mean he will sign it though.

#wba transfer news: former Sheffield United defender Kean Bryan is joining the club on a free transfer after a medical earlier today. Adds defensive cover after injuries to O’Shea & Clarke

Barnsley managed it last year using just 23 players.
7 played 40+ games
4 played 30+
only 3 played less than 10.

Mowatt played 43 in the league + 5 in the cup.

Two points on the above.
5 subs last season would help to keep players fresh.
23 players used - we don't have 23 senior players in our squad. We have 20 senior pros - counting Zohore !

I still say we are 3 players short of where we need to be, with injuries, suspensions, covid and loss of form.  Look at the bench we had a Peterborough.

With the summer transfer window having closed, we now have to name a 25-man squad list for the season. The squad list Standaman has kindly been maintaining has 31 players on it, so which 6 players would people omit from the finalised list?

Loan players and young players don't count in the 25, only rule is 5 loans only in a match day 18.

Copied the following from the EFL website.

Squad Lists

43.9.1  Clubs shall be permitted to name up to a maximum number of Players in their Squad
List based on the following provisions:

(a)  in respect of Championship Clubs, 25 Players of which a minimum of 8 must be a Home Grown Player;

(b)  in respect of League One and Two Clubs:
(i) in Season 2020/21, 22 Players of which a minimum of 8 must be a Home Grown Player; and
(ii) in Season 2021/22 and each subsequent Season, 20 Players of which a minimum of 8 must be a Home Grown Player.

The limit set out in Regulation 43.9.1(b)(ii) increases to 22 for any Club relegated into League One, for its first Season following relegation.

43.9.2  The following Players do not need to be included in the Squad List to be eligible to play in League Matches:

(a)  in respect of Championship Clubs, any Under 21 Player (save for any Under 21 Player who is registered with the Club on a Temporary Loan Transfer); and

(b)  in respect of League One Clubs and League Two Clubs, any Under 21 Players.

I’m happy with the team and happy with probably the first 16, it then thins out a little BUT if the likes of Ingram, Gardner-Hickman, Tillich and Fellows can step up then I’ll be happier. I knew once Molumby was in that’d be it with Snodgrass and Castro also back up.

Like everyone else I think we needed a player like Dike/Maja but we’ve ended up with Hugill who may be able to do a job.

5 CBS plus a youngster to cover 3 positions is about as much as we can hope for.

The loan window in the EFL still being open means business could still happen but I’d say more likely outgoings and there are still a few free agents that can do a job so I wouldn’t be surprised in the slightest to see us dip into that market.

I think the loan window is also shut until January.

Do we know how Barnsley played in the last 20 minutes of games under Val? Did they change their style of play in the last quarter of a match? Any stats on goals conceded in the latter part of games? Val must know the issues around playing this way. I presume he doesn't just tell the lads to go out as hard as possible for as long as possible and then just keep his fingers crossed we are far enough in front. Maybe this is what he meant by "we don't need the best the players just the right players"?

I think the key for last season was he was able to use 5 subs, to keep the team on the pitch as fresh as possible.

« on: August 09, 2021, 05:37:43 PM »
I thought if you offer them a contract then we are entitled to fee if they stay in this country and are under 24.

If you offer a contract and the player doesn't sign it then yes you can get compensation for under 24.  But not in this case as the contract was never agreed and then we released him - so he was a free agent.

Don't we get a fee for him due to his age?

We released him, so no.

I am amazed people are surprised by this, I have said all the way through we would never be able to get £20m for him and we havent. Given his temprement and only half a good season at PL level there were never going to be a big marhet for him.

We as fans fans have blue and white glasses sometimes, we have got exactly what the market valued him at and also the big advantage is that we have got the money in early giving us plenty of time to bring new players in.

I agree with what you are saying, there didn't seem to be a mass load of clubs wanting to buy him.

I hope you are right about us brining in some players in, we need another three at least I reckon.

« on: August 06, 2021, 10:06:28 AM »
I think he has got better each season with us, first season i thought he was average first season.

I always thought confidence and commanding his box was his weakness but he seemed to get better as last season went on and with him being involved as number 2 at the euros for england, that should be a huge confidence boost.

I wouldnt be devastated if he left but i would like to see him sign a new deal and stay and hopefully continue improving as that can only benefit us.

There are people who see his first season as it and that was not good defensively with all the players having to pass the ball no matter what the danger, due to Graeme Jones coaching.

I understand that Matheus Pereira is set to join #AlHilal for a fee of around €20M (£17M).

An official announcement is imminent.

Pereira’s statement & Ismael not wanting him propelled the move.

The funds are expected to be immediately allocated to the transfer budget.

Villa reportedly on the verge of flogging Grealish for £100m - so they may yet still be interested too

Villa only nick our youngsters for cheap fee's !  ;D

West Bromwich Albion FC / Re: Our squad
« on: August 04, 2021, 12:45:46 PM »
The general outcome for our academy players is that they end up in League 1 or below. Therefore, it requires a huge leap of faith that 4 or 5 of them are suddenly going to be of Championship standard without the players in question ever having played at this or any other senior level. It would be a very risky strategy to be reliant on more than a couple of the young players to provide cover.

I'd be particularly wary of an academy player being cover at RWB, as wing-back is a pivotal position for Valerien's style of play. I just can't see Phillips having the oomph to play a whole game as a wing-back. I'm not certain, but I think I'm right in saying that he hasn't been played there in the pre-season games?

Ultimately, though, I trust Valerien's judgement on who he thinks is up to the arduous task ahead in each position.

The worry I have is the squad is going to be needed.  With a high press you need players to be fit all the time and to be kept fresh, I presume last season Barnsley would have used all five subs on most matches to keep players fresh, we only have three available this season, so we will need players to play more with games coming twice a week, we will need the squad players to step up.

I can't see how Furlong and Townsend for an example can play at max on Saturday for 90 mins and then play again on Tuesday and then the following Saturday.

He's only as valuable as someone will pay.

Character is normally as strong a criteria as ability, so I'd say his petulance will be a risk for a buyer. Not necessarily reducing his value, but certainly reducing the number of potential buyers prepared to take the risk.

IMO, the club see the sale of Pereria as the only way to offset the £23 million we lost in season 2019/20, that's why they've set a value of £25 to£30 million.

Financially, the club has made a profit if we get over £9 million.

I thought the club kept part of last seasons budget to offset the losses from the season before.  With Ken stating at the shareholder meeting that a dividend is going to be paid to help clear this loan off, that means we are going to declare a profit on the next lot of results.  I wouldn't take anything less than 20 million and the Saudi's are taking the mick trying to buy a sportscar with a family car budget !

Quevin Moises Castro to compete for a central midfield role although Livermore is good enough at this level, done it before. We are already well stocked upfront with Grady, Robinson and Grant along with Zohore and Tulloch to come off the bench.

Not much wrong with our first 11 and do have a few options of the bench but for a 46 game league season we need more depth to the squad, I would say at least another 4 in to improve the squad.

West Bromwich Albion FC / Re: Guochuan Lai
« on: July 30, 2021, 06:16:29 PM »
So what Ken is basically saying is the next set of accounts will show a profit so they can provide the shareholders with dividend's.

The question is where will those profits come from ? Player sales, no investments into current squad ?
