This is the first death of a former player to really hit me.

I’ve obviously been around when greats have passed but never seen any of them play.

Alan Miller was the first proper goal keeper I personally remember seeing up the Albion and as kids we all wanted to play in goal during the 2 man Wembley sessions in the street because of this guy. He was my first proper footballing hero (along with Super Bob of course).

He was a bright light in a poor period for us and will always remember the Brummie chanting his name.

I am quite shook and he was no age at all.

Safe journey big man! Thanks for the memories!

Really liked Alan Miller - i remember him having good banter with us away fans at Ashton Gate once, i think we won 3-1. Funny as last week I saw a Subbuteo figurine made of him in that iconic "boing boing" moment!

So so sad and shocking. When I started to follow Albion seriously he was one of the first players I thought, he’s actually good, a better team would want him :)
We have been fortunate with keepers over the years Foster, Hoult, Kuszczak. Miller is up there. You always Felt like he loved the Albion too.

Great keeper and character such sad news. RIP
Sat in the seat behind Claire Sweeney a few times when they were going out and was a bit star struck but she was very down to earth. Could tell she thought the world of him.

Sneeks just reminded me of his performance against the bluenoses in our 1 nil win god knows how many saves he made that day but they were many and the only time we got out of our half Rich scores. We only need one chance rang around the ground and the obligatory there's only one Alan Miller and England's no 1. Happy memories big man.

Very sad to hear this of Alan Miller and only 51!
Remember him well joining in with us fans behind the Brummie Road. In fact he was often the conductor.
He kept the fans boinging during those days of struggle.
In fact he acted like he was one of the fans; and also to mention he was a decent keeper too (many a time single handedly keeping the opposition out).
Respect and RIP.

I remember that Blues game well. He was absolutely outstanding that day.

Miller would be behind Foster and Hoult but as good as any other keeper I've seen at the Albion.

Loved that game, maybe not during the 90 minutes but it felt great coming out the ground afterwards. They dominated for a few seasons afterwards though, starting with the 96th minute Michael Johnson goal...   :-\ Miller was indeed great that day, one of the best goalkeeper performances I've seen from an Albion keeper, right up there with the pole at man u

Dreadfully sad this is. As many have said a wonderful bright spot in a poor era for us. How Dennis Smith could put Phil whitehead ahead of him I have no idea. Serious question, I started going down in 92-93, I never knew he had 3 games for us in 91. Who were they against and was he a hit then? I always remember that match against blues, probably the best all round displays I’ve ever seen from a keeper.

Great game and one of the rare games I sat in the Halfords Lane for, my first there. Went with my Blue Nose Grandad and Baggies supporting Dad and Uncle and I remember the chant as it stuck with us for a couple years when we saw my grandad! Miller was colossal that day.

Really nice touch from Alan Miller's family at a difficult time.

PLEASE COPY THE FULL ARTICLE NOT JUST THE LINK !!!

Following the sudden passing of former goalkeeper Alan Miller owing to a heart attack at the age of 51 on June 3, his family have issued the following message expressing their thanks to Baggies supporters for the support they have received from them and many across the West Midlands – including Blues fans where he spent a time on loan.

“While we are still coming to terms with the shock of losing Alan so suddenly two weeks ago, the love and support shown to him from Baggies and Birmingham City fans has provided us with great strength.

“Alan absolutely loved his time at The Hawthorns. After an initial loan spell when he was a youngster, then a later second loan becoming a permanent move in 1997 – this was a special time in his career when he was playing at his peak. He always felt a special connection with the Albion fans and this has been highlighted over the past few weeks.

“The famous 1-0 win over Wolves and ‘boing, boing’ t-shirt celebrations at the Birmingham Road End were something that he often reflected on as he knew it meant so much to supporters and it really was a fantastic time for him.

“He always talked about how enjoyable it was to play for Ray Harford. Alan said all the players got up every morning looking forward to going into training. The team had a very good run up the league in a bid to challenge for promotion.

“As a family we were always grateful to everyone at the club, who became like family to Alan and so many in the area for making him feel so welcome during that time.

“Alan was a very proud former Albion player and remained good friends with many of the lads like Daryl Burgess.

“While this is understandably a difficult time for the family, we would like to place on record our sincere thanks to everyone who has contacted us directly, spoken in the media or on social media so positively about Alan. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts and know that Alan would have appreciated the love for him so much.”

Nerida, Val and Gary

Alan’s funeral will take place on Friday, June 25, but due to Covid, restrictions will be limited to a small number of people.

That's beautiful to read that, as someone that posted a fair bit about Alan Miller when he passed and seeing the tributes it's nice to know that the family had a look and it touched them. Miller and Sneekes at that time had a great connection with the fans and to see that two-way street acknowledged is really nice to read.
