Although safe from being relegated instantly, it sounds a lot like Derby are ultimately going to get a points deduction. Seems they used a different basis to value players which in turn enabled them to manipulate their accounts to avoid breaching FFP.

Just picked up that Hull, Reading and Derby are under transfer embargoes which pretty much excludes them signing players for a fee this summer.

Are they the ones because they used a government scheme to delay publishing their finances, so the Football League punished them?

Only the Football League then used the same scheme a little later?

Blues keeper Neil Etheridge is in hospital with CoVID. Only 31 as well. Hope he comes back stronger.

Can only echo those sentiments I know how ill you have to be to be admitted into hospital with COVID that is shocking for a young elite level athlete.

It will likely be a slow burner, but the car crash that is Nottingham Forest do seem to be trying to get more serious behind the scenes with their latest hire. They have poached Dane Murphy from Barnsley to be their new CEO and he is making all of the right noises. He will still need to manage the politics at the club with the Greek ownership and the many people they have in different positions, but Murphy might just be the one to lead them back to the premier league.

This season feels a bit early but I'd be looking at them as a serious threat next season. Would have liked Murphy at the Albion really.

Izzy Brown doesn’t get any luck. He has ruptured his Achilles in training at Preston. I get the impression his body just isn’t going to let him play professional football.

Lookman back to Leipzig will weaken Fulham considerably.

If he had done that a couple of months ago he may have been in our dug out by now..

A very odd set of circumstances at Swansea. Cooper has done a first rate job the release clause in effect priced him out this summer's Head Coach merry go round but now that has just come to a halt Cooper and Swansea agree (??) a parting of the ways.

Weakens Swansea (hopefully) so that's good for us. Wonder where he is off too? Seems odd to just come to a mutual agreement.

Aren't Swansea one of the clubs lauded as much better run than us?

They were considered that way i believe.

Just read an article about it on Athletic. Sounds a bit like Bilic situation; total disintegration of relationship with his superiors, his time there had run it's course, many surprised he was still there and didn't go after play offs. Board wouldnt give him funds and sold the better players each new season. Swanseas parachute payments are now over as well so will need to sell best players.

Makes sense when looking at it all really, he was in his last year and his release fee was so high no one would pay it so the situation would have gotten toxic if he stayed. Athletic saying Cooper will have a break from footy now rather than jump into another job immediately.

As I understand it he'd made it clear he wouldn't sign an extension. This is what we should have done prior to last season.

They are more consistent in their managerial selections than us...that is they try to stick to the 'Swansea way' instigated by Martinez and Rogers. There's no getting away from the fact that over the past decade a lot of players have left there for significant fees (Joe Roden the most recent) and only a relatively small proportion has been re-invested on incoming players. It sounds as though this has had an impact on Cooper's decision. More young players seem to get a path into the 1st team at Swansea than us but that's partly out of necessity due to the lack of significant new signings.

Factor in that we have never not gone up before the parachute payments have run out or finished outside the top 6, which, for me is a fantastic achievement, yet is rarely quoted.
As you say Swansea appear to do a lot right but, to fail to get up within the parachute protection is disastrous.

Swansea at one point did a lot right but lost their way badly and made many of the same mistakes we made it is odd their reputation for being well run has outlasted the reality by some years.

The reset has been long and painful. Unfortunately for them they have not managed to recover their Premier League status during the parachute payment period and from a financial perspective everything has just got a whole lot tougher.

Potter and Cooper have done a lot of the heavy lifting to get the club back on track with a new generation of young players (largely out of necessity than design). The next appointment is going to be critical.

The focus of their investment now seems to be paying £1m fees for players around the 19 - 21 age groups. There are worse strategies but whether they can get a strong enough squad together to challenge is doubtful. I suspect any new manager will be expected to get in the play-offs again minimum regardless of the fact they've lost their parachute payments.

Following in from the unfortunate Izzy Brown news, today it’s Sam Field’s turn, who has now injured his knee in training and looks likely to miss the start of the season.

Also, Swansea are in talks with John Eustace (QPR assistant manager) to take over from Steve Cooper.

I think some players (Brown and Field, maybe even Leko) must have bad genetics in terms of injuries. I actually would have liked us to keep Field but based on this maybe it's a sensible decision that he left. I wish him well.

Regarding Swansea - they were owned by a Welsh businessman and had a similar setup to us under Peace, i.e. low budet but could make it work and peaked under Laudrup.
Like us, he sold to foreign owners (Americans, bizarrely with Landon Donovan on board) who haven't done anything of note since. In fact, they've gone backwards as since the takeover they've been relegated and haven't returned whilst trying to run the club on a shoestring.

As chaotic as our club has been at times under Lai etc, I'd much rather us be in this state compared to Swansea who look miles off these days.

£10m in this market is like paying £20m, I don’t understand how Liverpool keep getting these ridiculous fee’s for fringe players, he’s 24 so you’d think he’s getting to somewhere near his peak which as he’s shown is a good championship / very average bottom of the premier league player., there seems to be a few players kicking about with similar abilities that you could get for much less than £10m.
