West Bromwich Albion FC / Re: Carlos Corberan
« on: March 17, 2023, 04:46:59 PM »
I really like Corberan and I am delighted we appointed him. Do i think he's made some mistakes....yes as all managers do. At times recently his tactics have been strange, trying to fit Albrighton in is not working.
One thing that rarely gets talked about in modern football is improving players or actually coaching them. Corberan has improved the performances and I would argue mentality of the team. A bunch of players are playing better under his leadership. When he took over we were 23rd in the table and morale was on the floor.
He hasn't had a proper transfer window (Jan is always a hard time) and a bunch of the players can't play the high intensity he wants to play. The squad is a mystery to me, I don't think it's as good as people say (we have about 6 really good players and some average ones).
He is much more flexible tactically than previous managers and made a lot of decisions that most of the fans could see while watching. I always appreciate a manager who when watching the game seems to have seen the same game you saw. He ditched Livermore, Button and Grant and put Pieters in at centre half who has been excellent.
Bartley and Phillips came back in and he revived them and then they got injured long term.
As people have said if he was here all season on a points per game basis we would have made the playoffs.
One final point on the strength of squads, if you look at the league table now and compare it to last season all the teams just above us or in the play offs finished above us last season too.
Millwall were 9th, Blackburn were 8th, Middlesborough were 7th, Luton 6th, Sheff Utd 5th. There is only one outlier in the whole table Huddersfield Town who finished 3rd and their manager was.........

Having a keeper the defence feel confidence in is huge. Looking more assured with each game.

Ironically of all the players we didn't want to get injured or who we couldn't replace it was Palmer and Yokuslu. I think the Palmer injury may have cost us the play offs. We need to find a way to get Carlos his players in the summer.

Carlos is basically working without any of "his" players. I think it will take the summer for him to actually have the players to play his system. The only problem is I can't see us having any money to back him.

If he plays we won't make the play offs. Bruce persisted and lost his job....The only worry is I don't think Griffiths is ready either.

Very pleasing news, Corberan has done brilliantly, has decent pedigree and this removes the threat of him leaving in the short term.

I am a little bit concerned about such a long contract for a manager, symptomatic of Gourlay's spend approach, but will put that aside tonight to just be delighted he is ours for the foreseeable.

I don't think Carlos will see out the new contract because someone will poach him eventually. He is a top manager and I think the hierarchy know that. The length of the new contract isn't an issue. He has been heavily linked with the last 2 premier league jobs that have come up.

We rarely have picked a manager I thought was a good, imaginative pick. Corberan was finally the right appointment and seems a great fit for us. The one concerning thing is our club is a shambles...we are on the brink and Carlos may look at a club spending millions on players and backing their manager and us scrambling together a team of loans and frees...

The Portsmouth fans didn’t rate him.

Portsmouth fans were glad he came back...

Why is Carrick not being linked to any jobs?  ;D

The fact so many fans were happy for him to go to Swansea after scoring 18 goals last year says a lot. Clearly CC isn't a fan but having him come off the bench should be a decent option.

The Leicester fans all seem to love his attitude and are full of praise for him, say's a lot. He has similar attributes as Phillips (when Phillips is at his best). Good addition.

I assume the money isn't coming for our January transfer window? I'm sure he promised we would get it >:(

Finally have a decent manager but nothing to back him with. I personally think he needs a few new players but may get 1.

Passenger way too often, clearly has ability but too often missing. Don't think Corberan trusts him, we miss Swift.

Earlier this season "Have to ditch the deadwood like Livermore, Bartley, Phillips etc". Now you listen to the fans and Phillips has turned into the reincarnation of Ronaldo. We need to bring someone in on loan but has Phillips evert been reliable other than half a season under Pulis?

We need to give him some help, even if it's with a couple of loans. Everyone keeps saying we have to go up this year, so to not help the manager would seem foolish...

The report circulated from Miguel Delaney but some of the tweets are misleading. Footy accumulators ran with "Everton are speaking to Corberan". It was picked from an article saying they are talking to Bielsa, Allardyce and Hassenhutl to sound people out.

At least we have the money to back him in this January window...Still hasn't got 1 of his own players in yet and working wonders. Kompany is doing brilliantly but has also been able to overhaul his squad to fit his style.

Pretty sure I agreed that CC had made the difference, but just pointing out, it wasn't with exactly the same players, as had been claimed

Bruce played Button and Corberan hasn't thats a massive difference. CC is a way better manager than Bruce but if Bruce had dropped Livermore and Button he would have won more games...

So glad we are still in the cup. At least we didn't go out again at the first attempt. Maybe this proves we have a good first 11 but our squad in certain positions isn't as great as people make out. We have no money but Corberan needs some reinforcements.

So frustrating at the moment that when things look right on the pitch off the field stuff is shambolic. I see there being only two way we can part with Lai. Either we get promoted and sell for closer to what he paid,or the more likely scenario that we end up in admin and the club has to rebuild with points deductions (Derby).

True! Its very Albion to finally be looking so good on the pitch with the right manager in place and now to be in disarray off the pitch. The worrying part is that Lai doesn't seem to want to sell. According to reports people have been wanting to buy Albion but not been considered. Unless Lai sells what can you do? Wait for us to go into administration?

Declan Rice is a brilliant footballer and wouldn't compare them but Okay is a Rolls Royce of a player especially in the Championship. There were moments last night he reminded me of how Yaya Toure used to play in the premier league.

First time in a while we went for someone that made sense. The fit seemed right and was at least an imaginative hire. He is the real deal. I would never compare him to Pep but he has the same relentless, obsessive passion for the game. His ability to change and tweak things in the match and make substitutions that change the game is so refreshing.
