Former Players returning to the Hawthorns.
« on: May 10, 2012, 09:11:04 PM »
Hi all I was just wondering what your memories of former players returning to West Brom to play against us?? I have a couple in mind good and bad,

 v Barnsley 09/10
Darren Moore On last game of the season, had a immense reception, the best I've seen in my lifetime.

V Birmingham city 10/11
Curtis Davies, let's just say he is not welcome at all.

I'm sure there is many more like this up and down the years I would love to hear any more.

Andy Hunt for Charlton last game of the season when we stayed up, I swear he missed a couple of sitters on purpose & we started singing Andy Hunt is an Albion fan

Well , there was this striker from Tipton who we turfed out in the 80s  :(

Andy Hunt for Charlton  :D was funny to watch (DAMTCL nice one).

Cyrille got a good reception even though he was playing for the dingles.

I remember Big Dave returning, was brilliant. I think ten minutes of that game must of been spent singing "Big Dave, There's only one Big Dave" and "Big Dave is an Albion fan". I used to sit towards the bottom of the SME and when we had a free kick or corner, can't quite remember, I remember shouting "Own goal please Dave". Don't think he heard me.

He got substituted in the second half and had a tremendous reception. Zoltan Gera likewise had a massive round of applause on his return.

My only ever trip to the shrine was the return of Zolly and Greening, in camouflage Fulham colours, both got a great reception, particularly for Zolly.

Gera scored a flukey goal (or it went down as a Carson OG) that game, didn't celebrate at all though.

I remember SuperBob coming back with Bolton and he came on quite early and he got a great reception, i cant remember if he scored for them or played a major part in the goal but i remember he didnt look too happy about it!

I think certain players like Gera, Greening, i remember AJ got a good reception, the Beast always gets a good reception, they stand out but on the whole i think Albion fans normally acknowledge ex players fairly well.

However, big Dave v Barnsley will take some beating, the bloke is just a legend, i dont know of any Albion fan or Pompey, Derby, etc who has a bad word to say about him, i wondered that day what he must of made of it, having 20k plus fans giving you hero worship, it was something special!

Dichio got a good reception initially. He ended up getting sent off and booed off the pitch.

Battle of Brammel Lane. Earnshaw i think he scored on his return. Will never beat big Dave's return, the beast's was funny i remember when he saved a few the whole of the brummie screaming beast even though he was keeping us out.

Players from the 2002 promotion season always get decent receptions, Darren Moore Barnsley, Andy Johnson Leicester, Sir Gary Megson with Bolton

Worst ones Curtis Davis with Villa, Pesch always got a tough time bless him lol, Hughesy got booed with Coventry tbf
