Most interceptions in the league last season: Mulumbu
Of our 12 wins last season, Odemwingie scored at least one goal in 7 of them, two in some.
Take away his goals and we are 15 points worse off last season, basically toast. Even if one says we had a striker to score half the amount Pete netted (got half the points), which is still very decent for our past strike force record, we'd still be toast (yes I know it's important goals that count, this is all theoretical nonsense, but one can't deny how impressive Pete's goal scoring record alone was last season, and that's ignoring his all round game play).
PS Yes I know this is all playing with stats
Personally, I'd say our biggest failure in most other Premiership campaigns has been not having a player who can put it in the back of the net, in Pete we found that last season. Strikers who can score 15 in a season in the Premiership are largely very hard to come by in my humble opinion.
Ultimately I'm just saying, if Long fails to ignite and Pete goes off the boil, you watch how suddenly folk realise having a striker who can put the ball in the back of the net is of utmost importance, possibly more important than anything else.
To be honest, I think we were possibly a bit spoiled in that department last season and don't quite fully appreciate what we had yet. However, I hope I'm wrong and we continue banging them in with pure ease.
