Given Slaven a bit of headache with regards to his performance, not a too far behind first team regulars.

Showing Ferguson how it's done, get a chance, take it, show your value to the team, get a new contract, continue to develop as a player.

Could replace Townsend at LB allowing Furlong to come back at RB?

Think he's got the shirt now. Furlong probably shouldn't have missed out in the first place but that's not O'Shea's problem.

No need to disrupt the balance of the team

O’Shea is earning his place in the team

In full agreement with what The Black Pearl said..

O'Shea benefits from Bilic wanting one of his full backs mainly to be a defender with the other having greater license to get forward. It is why Ferguson got game time ahead of the other full backs in the squad.

I have been generally impressed with his work to date and he certainly does not look out of place.

O'Shea has started the last four games if you include West Ham in the cup and we have kept three clean sheets. Obviously it's not all down to Dara but hes certainly more solid defensively than Furlong much as I like Darnell.

No one anywhere has noticed, for example, a brilliant piece of defending on Sunday when a cross was destined for the head of Matt Smith six yards out and O'Shea realises he cant outjump the man mountain so sticks his backside into Smith then starts moving and leaning backwards meaning Smith cant get any power on his header. Outstanding defending that no one raves about. If that's Furlong he gets overpowered by Smith who gets a header towards goal with force.

Things like the above are vital during a game but so often they get generally overlooked.

Just because nobody else has posted in reference to it, it doesn't mean you were the only person to have noticed it. Agreed, good defending. Interestingly though anywhere else on the pitch and it may well have been a free kick to Millwall for backing in.
It doesn't matter how many resources you have.
If you don't know how to use them, they will never be enough.

Well, at least two of us did then.  ;)

To be fair I meant to put mentioned rather than noticed but for some reason I didnt.

Amazed you could avert your eyes from Townsend's pert little backside for long enough to see it  ;)

Perfect choice at full back for an away day at Millwall, but against other sides we need to be using Furlong at right back as we need that attacking threat down the flank, particularly if we have Pereira playing out there and coming inside...so as to speak

 ;D slightly harsh.

I just judge players on how they perform for the Albion not on reputation or past glories.  :P

I think he's been a revelation since he's came in.

It speaks for itself that since his arrival we've won significantly more than before and kept a lot of clean sheets in the process. I've said it before but he reminds me of Craig Dawson who was also a converted CB in the RB position. Obviously he's not the best going forward because of this but his defending more than makes up for it.

He was superb at Bristol. Rock solid defensively read the game so well. Composed on the ball and good delivery when the opportunity arose.

Agree completely with the last couple of comments. He’s giving us solidity there, really grown into the role and puts his body on the line.

I thought the decision to book him was atrocious but he didn’t let it get to him and never looked in danger of a second yellow.

I was firmly in the Darnell Furlong must play camp,BUT results suggest that we’re better as a team with O’Shea, fair play to Slav for recognising this

I make it 8 starts, 6 in the league and two in the cup.

5 clean sheets in those, could have been 6 if not for a penalty from reading. I’m sure it’s not all down to him but that’s is a fairly substantial improvement he has been part off.
