Grady Diangana (on loan from West Ham)
« on: August 07, 2019, 11:56:05 PM »
Think this is close enough to happening to warrent his own thread.

https://www.expressandstar.com/sport/football/west-bromwich-albion/2019/08/07/west-brom-close-in-on-loan-deals-for-wingers-grady-diangana-and-matheus-pereira/

Delighted we seem to be finally addressing the desperate need for a left footed wide player by signing two on the same day. It is striking how similar Diangana is to Pereira.

And the obligatory you tube highlights reel for good measure

If he does sign, he doesn't have much to live up in comparison to the performances from our last loan wing signings in Murphy and Montero.

Hopefully can be more of a Barnes...

I've never heard of him to be honest.

Does anybody know what sort of player he is?

Is he a Harvey Barnes or a Matt Phillips etc?

BUSY DAY AT WEST BROM

West Bromwich Albion are close to completing a loan deal for West Ham winger Grady Diangana.

We understand a deal should be completed shortly.

Meanwhile, Albion are also in advanced negotiations with Southampton for Charlie Austin and hope to get a deal over the line before 5pm.

Finally, Matheus Pereira is currently undergoing a medical in London ahead of a move from Sporting.

That’s likely to be a loan too, although the clubs were discussing the possibility of a permanent deal.

The worry is that he played 21 times for West Ham last season, and no-one seems to know much about him.

Then again, we didn't know much about Barnes, did we?

Provided all of this happens, and nobody else leaves, will this be a good window for us? I say yes as I expect at least one of the so called wingers to weigh in with goals

He would probably be a back-up. Behind Phillips, Edwards and the guy from Sporting.

No way West Ham would let him come if that was the case. He's here to play and I think he will, he is a very good prospect, so all of the above will have to be on their toes to keep him out.

Welcome. A WHU fan friend of mine is very surprised and said he thought he was a shoe in for the match day 18 and a good, direct player.

Good signing. Edwards played well but potentially we can't rely on him and we all know Phillips misses a lot of games and many of his performances are not when 100% fit.

If the fee was very high I wouldn't mind that. Leave it late so the buying club do a thorough medical on and we'll be ok.

Colin is a big fan of his so he may go to cardiff.

In the short term, he seems a decent prospect who could hsve a big impact on our push for promotion. West Ham played him enough times last season to suggest he has something about him and he could very well be perfect for this level.

As for medium to long term, if we also sign Pereira and Willock, on top of what we already have, it comes across as the club having no long term plans for the academy prospects coming through which is hugely dissapointing.

Will know soon enough.

I really like the look of this kid and think he certainly has the potential to replicate what Barnes did last year and, if he does, there is every chance they will have him back. Difference is we have better cover this time.

Phillips always looks like he's blowing out of his arse after 60 mins, so at least we could introduce someone with pace. Or have Phillips come on for Diang after 60 mins. Either way it's a good problem to have.

I think I read somewhere that he can also play through the middle so he might be an extra option there too.

He’s a good player but so far I rate Barnes more. Also, the loss of Barnes was so devastating because we had nobody like him in the team whereas we have good strength in depth on the wings.

Obviously, given what we’ve seen I’d really like us to keep him, but I don’t think his loss would be as dramatic as Barnes last year.

Saying that it wasn’t just the loss of Barnes that hurt us - we pretty much lost Phillips for the second half of the season too, and we can’t rule out that happening again this year.

of course, what made you think he couldn’t?

Krovinović Doesn’t have any recall option the same with Pereira. Both of them can’t be recalled so I was hoping the deal was the same as theirs . Pretty sure Willock can be recalled the same as Diangana

It wasn't the loss of Barnes itself that was damaging, it was the failure to bring in a decent replacement. As we have seen over the last month or so, there are plenty of other talented players out there. If Diangana was recalled I suspect Bilic will have other players on his radar ready to bring in as a replacement.

If West Ham manage to stay in the top 8 or 10 up to January then I doubt they will recall him.

I'm just going to carry on enjoying watching him play and hopefully scoring more goals.

I agree with this. If you watch him closely it is clear, even at our level, that he is not the finished article. With that in mind a season with us where he is involved in upwards of 35 games will be the best possible education available to him at present. Should West Ham struggle however, it could be different.
