For those who don't know.
Some small businesses have printed catalogues and calendars prior to being informed.
They will have to suffer the costs themselves.

I don't know why they couldn't have just given us both days, the miserable sods.

A lot of people (like me  :( finishing at 1:30) will be losing half a days holiday as many firms only do Friday mornings

Totally agree. They will say because of the economy. Ironic then that Germany, who lost the war enjoy more bank holidays, a shorter working week, better pensions and wages and a higher standard of  living than us.

The people who run this country treat life like a game of Cricket.

The Germans were always going to run Europe, internal lines of communication, resources etc.  Imagine how powerful they'd be if they hadn't started and lost two world wars!

I don't see why we shouldn't have had both days off  (and I'm self employed now, so it wouldn't do me much good).

Can imagine there will be a fair few things like weddings booked in advance to be on the normal May Day weekend that have sent their plans scuppered through no fault of their own !

Indeed but people believe the "party of business"  ;D :o ;D :P
Think of all the calendar and diary manufacturers who have printed all the millions of stock?
Totally inept planning as we have come to expect.

It has been moved before.

The May Day bank holiday has been moved only once before. It was changed from 1 May to 8 May in 1995 to mark the 50th anniversary of VE Day.
