next 7 games - whats an acceptable points haul??
« on: November 02, 2015, 03:40:46 PM »
I think we will accumulate,

Man u away - 0pts
backside Home - 0pts
West Ham A -1pt
Spuds H - 1 pt
L'pool A - 1pt
Bournemouth H - 3 points
Swansea A -0 pts
Newc H - 3points

Which would put us on 23pts from 19games (half way)

Acceptable??? /  good enough??

More chance of a point at Old Trafford than Anfield in my opinion. A 10 point haul we should be aiming for in my opinion.

I'd go with 10 points as both acheivable and realistic. We need to have more points than games come the half way stage.

Fancy us to win at both West Ham and Swansea. Agree we'll get nothing at Anfield.

Quite hard to call team's form in 6/7/8 games time, anything can happen.

For example if Swansea continue their current poor form then chances of a result increase, whilst the Toon could have a new manager by the time we play them, either that or McClaren starts to get some results.

I would be happy with ten points from the next seven but think we could do above. 1-0 smash and grab at Man U will be a good start. A few United fans I know are worried that they can't break teams down  8)

We need only look back to the dread of our last seven games last season and how we performed there (wins against United, Chelsea and a draw against Liverpool was it?) and it shows anything can happen. Games aren't won or lost before they're played so I find it difficult to guess points totals from games.

Manchester United (A) - They've only conceded one goal at home all season, and even that was a Benteke wonder strike. So a win is out of the question. But I wouldn't be shocked if TP managed to grind out a 0-0; United have already had 4 of those this season.

Arsenal (H) - They're in outstanding form and even a narrow 1-0 defeat would be a fantastic result.

West Ham (A) - Another team which thrives on the break. Add to that the fact that this is an away game, and Albion will probably sit deep here.  I'm expecting a point from this.

Spurs (H) - TP will surely be wary of them considering he got beat 3-0 here last season. Can see this one ending in a draw.

Liverpool (A) - They're another side which has struggled for goals this season. I can see this one following a similar pattern to the United game.

Bournemouth (H)  - In dreadful form at the moment, but a lot can change between now and then. Still, 3 points should be the target.

Swansea (A) - Can see Albion nicking this one; similar to Stoke's win there a couple of weeks ago.

Newcastle (H) - (See Bournemouth)

Overall, 10 points would be a fabulous return, although I personally feel Albion will get around 7 or 8.

Bournemouth and Norwich won't  be far off "must wins" if we don't win any of the next four, which is quite probable.  I'd settle for staying ahead of a point a game right now, so 7 would do me.  I know it's too early to be looking at other teams, but it's hard to see any of the bottom 5 getting to 40 points.

I am confident that we'll win a game none of currently think is possible, but we'll also lose to a bunch of sitting ducks too at some point.

IF
we end up with 22 points or more at 19 games gone, we'll have done decently and we'll be in very good shape to survive
Whenever things look bad, remember the Port Vale, Grimsby and Walsall days... not so bad now, eh?!

We could well be struggling to get to 20 points by new year.  So is it time to work out which 3 teams might be crapper than us?  Bournemouth?  Sunderland?  Villa?

Those 3 plus Norwich and Newcastle, while Watford will probably be sucked in as well.

I'm confident that we will finish in the bottom 7 but will be far closer to 14th than to the bottom 3.    14th/15th is par for us based on revenue and wage roll (ie spending power).  Anything above that is above par.

We can't score goals and now we don't know how to defend, our summer signings have been shown to be poor I'm not giving us much hope at the minute. PULIS needs to change his game plan of we defend at all costs with eleven men behind the ball give the opposition the majority of play and hope we get one chance to score then we sit back take of our attacking threat and cross our fingers and pray no matter who we are up against man city or port vale

Don't rule out a surprise in Swansea - in free fall after a brilliant start and now the first real test for Monk.......

Newcastle will get out of it. They've been very unlucky in some games this season and have an abundance of quality. Bournemouth, Swansea, Newcastle will be a huge run of games.

FFS - we don't know how to defend?  Remind me how we fare in the clean sheets list at present.

Defending well is different to putting ten men behind the ball and offering no attacking intent. I would be mortified if we had one shot on goal all game and still lost 3 nil. Wait, it's already happened!

We were talking about defensive ability, not  about scoring!

I dont disagree with you though

I can't see us getting those points.
We don't attack enough and as I said....Unless we score we cannot win.
Our defence has weaknesses as was proved on Saturday.
A couple of 0-0 draws are more likely than wins.
