Who are your 'three to go down'?
« on: February 12, 2013, 07:01:16 PM »
In the PL, come the end of the season, who do you think will be going to down to the Championship?

I'm going for:

QPR
Reading
Wigan

The current bottom three. I don't really want Wigan to go down, I've always liked RM, but they've escaped so many times on the last day, I just can't see it happening again this season.

In spite of spending millions, I think QPR are down and I don't think Reading are quite strong enough. (Even though they came back from the dead to beat us).

Wigan lost form badly after Ben Watson broke his leg, he added steel to their midfield. With some other injuries as well they have had the same problem we had during our winter months, too weak replacements. If they get their better players back they can still rally. They know how to scrap and they have good nerves and they always knew their job is to survive and be at their sharpest at the business end of the season.

Villa on the other hand is inexperienced and the pressure of a relegation battle may get to their young players, also their morale is questionable at times with their veteran players being something of individualists. They have a very soft defence. In their favour they are working very hard and have some quality up top to score important goals. Yet they lack the quality to take them out of the relegation battle, and a few demoralizing losses may see the young players lose their way.

Sadly, the win against West Ham will spur them on now for the coming weeks and I suspect they will start to creep out of the relegation fight.

I really hope I am wrong but once again Villa will jam there way out of trouble and next season I fear they will really push on.

The three to go will be the three in there now I think.

I think the bottom clubs will pick up a lot of points now, Reading a very capable of getting a few reults as are Southampton, Wigan have been there before and now have Scharner who will stiffen up their defence playing for a contract, QPR have had it I'm sure which just leaves Villa who will get a few wins, but, I think they will still come up short, so I go for

---------
Villa 39pts
Reading 37pts
QPR 31pts

QPR 26 pts
Villa   30 pts
Wigan 30pts

QPR just won't get the points to manage safety they don't win enough games.
Villa have had  plenty of false dawns e.g. beating L'pool in December then not winning again until last week and in that time playing Newcastle, Southampton and Wigan at home (games I'm sure they targeted as winable) and losing all 3. Add to that embarrassing defeats to Milwall and Bradford. Benteke or not I just don't see them getting enough points. Their games against QPR, Reading, Soton and Wigan will be huge.
Wigan  Think this is the year their luck will run out. can't see them scoring enough to win games.

My three would be: QPR, Reading and Wigan in no particular order.

QPR are currently 7 points behind and despite their better defensive performances, Redknapp still hasn't got the victories he needs. Reading have got results of late but I do think they are one of the poorer sides in the division and Wigan appear to be dropping like a stone. Losing both Arouna Kone to the ACON and Ben Watson to injury will have affected them.

Newcastle strengthened adequately in January which will see them to safety. I like the look of Southampton at the moment, they've got something about them and MP has made a good start there, had they lost the first game or two I might have fancied them but it appears he will carry on with the good work of Nigel Adkins. They played very well against Man City and thoroughly deserved their victory. I also think Villa will survive, mainly because I feel Reading and Wigan will let themselves down. Sunday was a massive win for Villa and I think that might have given them the boost they need.

Tough one. With Newcastle buying all those player I see them having more than enough to stay up. Southampton look pretty good over the last couple of months. I really hope it will be Reading, Villa and QPR. QPR looked pretty doomed already.

It's down to three out of Villa, Reading, Wigan and QPR.

I'll guess Villa, Wigan and QPR. Reading get to play all three at home, and Villa have the toughest remaining fixtures.

20th QPR - Think the damage was done before Redknapp came in. Running out of games and can't seem to get going as a team. If they get relegated then Redknapp will ditch them and I can see QPR heading for a worrying future.

19th Wigan - They lack quality upfront for me, last year they had Moses who was a very good striker who could get a few goals. They have a decent midfield though, Maloney looks a good player but I feel this will be the year they will get relegated.

18th Villa - They can score goals but they can't defend at all, it will be close but I feel they will go down on GD. That 8-0 defeat could cost them.

QPR, Villa, Reading.

Zero chance of Wigan going down in my opinion, they always have enough come May.

Agree on this massively, can see another Pompey on the horizon.

To predict the other two is so difficult as reading, villa, saints and newcastle all seem to have picked up a bit and wigan under rm are always capable of putting a decent run together but I think a bad spell of results again might seriously ruin both reading and villa.

I think that Wigan wont pull off the same feat as last year and on previous occasions this season.  They have picked up the least points over the last 10 games so I think this is the year there luck runs out. So:-

QPR & Wigan to go down.

The 3rd relegation spot is going to be a very interesting one.

I think it will be between the following 4 teams : Reading, Villa, Southampton & Norwich.

Reading and Southampton have picked up good points over the last 10 games 14 & 12 respectively but can they keep it up? Norwich have only collected 7 points in the last 10 which could see them pulled into the fight if that form carrys on and obviously the Villa have collected just 9 points in 10 (even with our bad form weve collected 2 more points).

I think and hope it will come down to the last game of the season between most of those 4 teams, which will be fun.

My hearts says Villa but my head is saying Norwich or Reading.

I have done my calculations and it will be all down to the last day of the season.

QPR will already be gone and the two matches to watch will be
Wigan v Vile
West Ham v Reading
Both Games will finish as draws so my final placings are..

20th QPR 32pts
19th Wigan 33pts
18th Villa 36pts  :D.

The real decider will be Reading v Villa i have Reading to win that one so i wait in anticipation.
