I think he could be a massive player for us next year.  Noticed when we played Everton last week how he seemed to waltz past their defence.  Good to watch and really gives us something extra which we do not have elsewhere.  Cannot understand some of the comments on this thread at all.  Have you seen him play?

Full credit deserved.  Took a really hard decision which paid off.  If not we would be in West Ham's position now, not where we are.  Said before, we need a fan chant for the Chairman (did we not have one for Thompson?).  No-one has done more to promote the club in the past twenty years.

Dear God it has not been boring this season!  More of the same next year please, but without the "saggy" bit in the middle.  I won't forget the wins against Liverpool, Villa, Arsenal, Blues (home and away).  Whatever else we will be it will not be boring, trust me!  Who knows where we can go know Europe?  FA Cup? The world's our oyster!

Our problems have not yet gone away, but we have some time to deal with them.  Still think Shorey and Jonas are class defenders, but we need to stregthen and under Roy we will do this.

Well done! Got to start calling him Simon O'Cox from now on?  Great player, got an even bigger contribution to make next year IMO.

Barnett is well thought of in these parts and speaking to those who have watched him play I think he is an improved player from when he left us.  However, he is currently out with a long term injury.  Sure he will make the squad but he will need to regain his place next season.

As I understood the press releases at the time, there is a reasonably detailed plan to extend, but it would only be put into place if we became an established premiership club.  There was some speculation as to what was meant by this and the Express and Star reported that it meant when we had been in the premiership for three to four years consecutively.

Two thoughts here.  Firstly we cannot sell all our tickets.  Took my dad up to see the Man Utd game, got the tickets as soon as they were available to season ticket holders.  However, we were still selling tickets two days before the match (maybe even later?).  Evan against the Wolves I think we were still selling tickets two days before kick off?

That being said as the economy picks up, people will come back.  Have several friends this year who have not been up much because they have been short or out of work and as this changes (hopefully it will), and if we keep on playing as we have done, tickets will be really hard to come by.

Question is, do you preempt the demand or follow it?

As I understand it, the  move to The Hawthorns preempted being able to fill it and now is maybe the time to be brave.  But if I was JP, I would give it one more season.

Was very disappointing.  Last on and no discussion at all.  I was expecting to see us second or third on (maybe even first).  Still we're not from London and they like their mates in the "larger" clubs.  What else to say?

Remember that chant.... Not one of our better moments.  As I recall that was about the time Doug Ellis built a moat around Villa Park to prevent pitch invasions.. or did I dream that one?

We gave them a goal start like we used to do playing shots in when we were kids and playing somebody younger (or just not very good...).  Even with a goal start, even with ten men, Villa you still lost.  On your bike! bottom line is we are are proper honest football team, the Villa are jut a bus stop in New Street!

No definitely Villa park.  I was nine at the time and my dad took me.  Dreadful to see it happen (purely an accident), but I do not think he was ever quite the same player again.

He tried and I love a trier! Great touch to keep the ball when he was on the ground in the second half. However, he was skinned and beaten to the ball quite a number of times.  Like him, but we need more and better defenders next year and someone has to make way.  Wish him well as I do all the Albion players who do their best.

Told you.... if we let him go we will really loose out on a player shaping up to be real class

I will be renewing.  Living here in Norfolk it is the cost of the Diesel that gets you.  Anyone lives this way and fancies sharing the cost when they are going to a game give me a shout!

West Bromwich Albion FC / Re: Carson - time to go?
« on: April 17, 2011, 10:16:56 AM »
Yesterday was not Carson's best game, but he made some outstanding saves to keep us in the game.  We still have work to do on the training ground in defence, but we will get there.  Much too easy to blame the keeper for every goal and I think this is what we are in danger of doing.  Persistently telling a keeper he is rubbish is not going to improve his performance.

I know there are quite a few candidates for this accolade, but I will start by nominating Andy Carroll.  Useless, couldn's stand on his feet and every time he lost the ball diving in comic fashion and looking to the ref for a free kick.  This being especially comic when he lost out to Nicky Shorey an number of times who is 9 inches shorter and probably a stone and a half lighter.  Closely followed by Lee Bowyer who lost out to Maulmbu and threw his toys out the pram, and eventually needed to be taken off.  Ridiculous that pros need to do this.  Anymore candidates?

Given my Norfolk location I would like to see Norwich coming up.  Intrestingly Norwich hold a grudge against the Wolves. Beleive this dates to a Norwich player who got his leg broken by a reckless wolves tackle and the year Norwich beat Wolves in the play offs and it kicked off at Molineux.  So start singing stand up if you hate the Wolves at Carrow road and everyone stands up!  Seriously a good community club with solid support and for thise travelling down this way good beer and a warm welcome.

West Bromwich Albion FC / Simon Cox-We need to keep him
« on: April 03, 2011, 12:29:37 PM »
Conscious at the Match yesterday just how much Cox added.  He is still just off the level of a top premiership striker but he will get there and I love his work rate and effort.  Seen some speculation he will go to Ipswich in the Summer and I think that would be a mistake for him and for us.  Welcome your thoughts

At the time it felt very harsh.  RDM got us up and brought in some great players, but I have to say we have done well under Roy and it has made a real difference. Roy had the the vision to use Meite to best advantage and to use Shorey which has changed things at the back.  The motivation I see on a Saturday now is just awesome.

Was so pleased with the result.  Was not sure that any Manager would have an impact, but he has!! Defensively we are better (though lets be clear not yet perfect, better teams would have punished some of our marking).  Midfield looks solid (even with Dorrans), we have good options in attack as well.  Fortune does not score many but he is a goal maker, Odemwingie a real threat and made a big difference in the second half.  Looking forward now to see how we do against the Arsenal.

What about if we got a band together to do the tune?  Works for the national team and  its not that difficult to play.  Couple of Saxs in the ground and a trombone is all you would need.  Have to agree with the club to bring them in, but cannot see them then controlling what would be played.

I would have taken a draw at the start of this and I am happy now...but so nearly all three points.  Was amazed when I saw the team...but I clearly lack Roy's experience...It did work/  Great tactics against Stoke who are a hard and physical team.
