Since Chelsea won the champions league, with our ex manager in charge, a few journalists and writers have had a few digs at West Brom for sacking him. Now I feel we were totally vindicated in sacking him and his replacement took West Brom to two mid table finishes. We acted decisively and made a decision we hadnt made in our other premier league seasons and sacked a manager when things were not going right (Megson sacking was down to a public fall out with the chairman). Instead of going down like we did every other year, we stayed up.

It seems though one of he main areas we have received criticism, is not just for the sacking, but what happened after. No doubt since his sacking a lot did come out of the club through leaks that Di Matteo did not work hard enough planning matches, coaching the players and even it seems critcism form inside about tactics. Ive seen a few journalists now throw this back at us and it has made me wonder if it would have been better if we just kept schtum. I suppose the temptation was here because we were receiving criticism for sacking him from the "stay loyal to your manager" brigade but by leaking things I hope we havent scored a PR own goal.

No - the club is bigger and is (and should be) run as a business.

RDM did not end his career here very well so was duly sacked - end of. Football works in circles (as business) and people talk, people who would need to know will know what wne ton

Im still laughing at people saying we were too defensive on Saturday.........
We could have been 4 up at half time, cut the guy some slack.

We'll be fine

Hello All,

When Fortune came on against norwich he looked like a real live wire and up for it.

Could this be just because the rest was so poor?... I know you can't really judge a player on 10 minutes of footie!

What are your opinions?

Sorry - not good enough, simple as

I agree Olsson is important, but I think Dawson alongside with McAuley also is solid, today the main problem is Shorey ,the passing is horrible.
I think our full backs are the problem too

We have key players injured and some not 100%.
We have players on the fringes who aren't good enough.
Our manager made it pretty clear in the summer and again now that for us to be any better and build on last year we must sign better players and pay the required wages.

We did sign better players and added to a decent squad. Now I think we need to move several players along plus Dorrans, Thycoi and Cox and bring in players who have prem games under their belts.

After games like yesterday and Wigan before (and probably another
one or two)it is depressing.

But I really think we are better and will comfortably stay up.

We had enough chances to go in at half time 2/3-0 up. Some of our play in the last third was good.

I've sat there through some real dross - Ron Saunders, John Giles 85/6, Brian Talbot - this now isn't anywhere near as bad as what I a read on here.

Funny thing is if we go and beat Stoke next week (way overdue) the tide turns and were looking up again.

All not bad people. Have faith

another question!
If you were JP would you sanction any significant deals in the transfer window knowing that the manager might not be here in a few months time?
Also Gera could get fit and end up playing for a manager who doesn't want / or know how to play him like Roy does.

Think Roy needs to commit to something here - the players could be affected by it all.

What should our expectations be?
17th minimum for me

have to say i dont see the point of this signing at the moment,i think we have more urgent priorities and this is just  :-\ up more of the wages budget after all i would think most posters would agree m/f is probably the strongest area of our side and a fit Dorrans is like a new signing anyway :-\
Giles Barnes was used last season on several occasions - I didnt rate him, he'll never play in the prem, a decent Championship player at best.
If we are going to establish in the prem we need a depth of premier league players - Zoltan Gera is one and is far better than GB. So he is a good addition to our squad.
Bednar, Miller and Fortune are never going to impact the Premier League and I think  we need to replace the 3 with either 1 Prem Striker or 2 decent options.

What was it that Nicky Reid said after scoring the second goal at Wembley in the play-off final.

AT f******* LAST !!!

I think youll find he actually said 'get F***** In!'

How much should the club pay for a squad player? How much is Gera on? Believe me there are problems with this deal.
The point should be how good do we want our squad to be? We need strength in depth, and Giles Barnes, who I never rated, is never going to be a good squad player if you want to become an established side in the prem. Gera is a brilliant replacement for him.
Hodgson has seen how poor our squad is (we were lucky we didnt have Pete and Mulumbu out injured, just look at what happened when Olsson was out!) and is addressing this.
Surely you want proven prem players, or top lower league players to make our squad up, rather than cheap, non proven, average championship players.

IMO Brunt is our best player - but he needs to play in his best position (wide) and not be captain. Without that pressure and in his position we might see him back to his best for the run in.
Why is he the best player?
He wins headers
He finds a pass
He can strike the mitre (with both feet)
He delivers a cross as good as any player
He can tackle

also premiership will be easier next season because 3 very very weak teams will come up, wheras 3 pretty decent teams will be relegated
Yes thats right, just like people reckoned Hull and Blackpool were going to have the worst seasons in Premier League history. Teams coming up nowadays are more unpredictable than before (even us pre Xmas) = I wouldnt look at it like that mate.

I think if we stay up, experience will begin to show in some of our players and we could become a member of the Bolton, Blackburn,  Everton, Bham, Vile etc.

I also think that Stoke will have a bad season and go down, where they belong.
