West Bromwich Albion FC / Re: Shane Long
« on: November 24, 2011, 06:01:43 AM »
He's a real threat with his movement and heading threat. With Gera about as well there's a good aerial threat. I did wonder why Shorey was back in instead of Jones but he had a really good game going forward and delivered some good crosses.
Thomas caused problems but he's got zero confidence in hitting any crosses with his left so just as well Shorey put a couple in. A wide player who can cut in AND go outside and cross for  Long / Gera would make us more dangerous.
8) Thats why a lot of people on the Forums have said put Brunt in his natural left spot and Gera to run the middle with Shane and Pete up front. That way the front men get plenty of ammunition.
Thomas should be tried on the right,if he prefers his right foot which he seems to use mostly anyway.
Brunty to cut in from the left to give that extra attacking player......So Roy if you you want to give up your day job give us a call!

West Bromwich Albion FC / Re: Michael Appleton
« on: November 09, 2011, 11:32:20 PM »
Looks like Kiely could follow him according to this, not much to it though just a couple of lines:

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2059600/Dean-Kiely-follow-Michael-Appleton-Portsmouth.html

West Brom goalkeeper coach Dean Kiely could follow Michael Appleton to Portsmouth.

Kiely spent a season at the south coast club in 2006, and Albion coach Appleton is expected to be unveiled as their new manager by the weekend.

;D Good for Deano will get some managerial experience as Appys' assistant

Albion Matchday Forum / Re: Team - who do you WANT to see?
« on: October 30, 2011, 11:39:59 PM »
                                               FOSTER

JONES                MCAULEY                  OLSSON           SHOREY

                           REID                     MULUMBU

GERA                              DORRANS                         BRUNT

                                     ODEMWINGIE

If Scharner is fit then Scharner for Reid with Reid back at right back and Jones wide right in midfield and Gera to be brought on with half an hour to go. Tchoyi on for the last half hour as well.
;D Agree with this formation 100%.Would give Arsenal a decent game.

Albion Matchday Forum / Penalty Decision
« on: October 30, 2011, 11:32:23 PM »
 >:(The  penalty (if it was a penalty?) should have been taken again (if the officials were up to standard) as Adam took it a Liverpool player (no 14) runs into the area so encrouching rule should have applied and penalty retaken, not 10 yards from the ball.

« on: October 27, 2011, 06:11:45 AM »
Suarez got a sore calf from Cup game against Stoke. Came off in the 88th minute limping......hope it is not serious ?
Only enough to keep him out on Saturday??  Scored 2 as well.
Anyone heard how the injury is??

West Bromwich Albion FC / Re: Simon Cox
« on: October 25, 2011, 03:56:00 AM »
I wouldn't mind seeing Cox behind Odemwingie again, it worked well near the end of last season and Cox's run in the side coincided with what was arguably Odemwingie's best spell of form.
:D Coxy had one of his best games for us playing behind Pete in that great win against Liverpool in April...he was very lively and played very well.

West Bromwich Albion FC / Re: The Tchoyi and Long Partnership
« on: October 19, 2011, 01:25:00 AM »
I've been calling for this partnership for weeks, finally we got to see it again and I thought they looked fantastic together and once again really complimented each other well.

Tchoyi is an enigma but as others have said he puts the opposition on the back foot whenever he's on the ball, at times he's unplayable. He has to start every game for me.

Sadly I can see him being dropped again next week to accomodate Odemwingie.
;D I still think he is much better coming on in the last 20 mins to replace either Pete or Shane,he is not astarting player but an impact player when defenders are tired.
He has not got a big petrol tank and fades in the second half....he would be dynamite for the last 20 mins,as mentioned.

;D Foster had his best game for us. 2 or 3 quality saves and commanded his area.

West Bromwich Albion FC / Re: Peter Odemwingie
« on: October 17, 2011, 05:59:19 AM »
he needs to feel loved. one of the biggest confidence players i have ever seen. if the fans are on his back he won't perform (see locomotive).
;D Agree Pete needs to "feel the love" to perform. A comment was made that when he came on as a sub the noise made him inspired to perform.

I remember last season after a game he said that after he scored a goal he could have run forever....so he is a person who needs love.

West Bromwich Albion FC / Re: hodgson out??
« on: October 04, 2011, 10:00:25 AM »
;D Talk about negativity?......questioning Roys management of the team is absolutely rubbish.
He is doing his best to get them going.....What can he do if Pete has a stinker, which he did....or Shorey gets outjumped by a much taller player.
Or Dorrans misdirects a pass...
Some people are on Olsson and Mulumbu's back saying they didn't perform??? They have been the outstanding players for the last 2 years.
We are a fickle lot of critics.......get behind the team and management and all will be well.
This negativity flows through to the players and shows in the way they play.Come on you Baggies!!!

West Bromwich Albion FC / Re: Should Tchoyi Be Starting?
« on: September 28, 2011, 05:25:29 AM »
 8) I have always said he is at his most dangerous  for us when he comes on for the last 20 mins against tired defenders.

He is an impact player. The opposition don't know how to work him out (probably he doesn't himself).

Can terrorise teams due to his unpredictability and his directness towards goal.

I think he can win and save a lot of games for us.Would keep the other strikers on their toes also, knowing they might get subbed.

I think he is fantastic value but not starting.

Albion Matchday Forum / Re: Nervous
« on: September 27, 2011, 09:25:07 AM »
I get the feeling that both teams will be pretty nervous on Saturday, Sunderland maybe more has there are the home team . I really think that an Albion win will cost Steve Bruce his job.
8) I am only nervous because Sunderland put in a poor performance against Norwich,so may be fired up for us!
Seems to happen to us when a team has played badly the week before...they put in a blinder against us.

West Bromwich Albion FC / Re: The Survival-O-Meter
« on: September 27, 2011, 09:19:33 AM »
 8) Probably don't need to take any notice until Xmas time,as this is the indicator of how the season is going.
If we have 20 points by Xmas we should be ok........16 points to go ,or 5 wins and a draw.
Not going to stress too much yet.....think we will be fine.

General Football & Sports / Re: Ben Foster
« on: September 26, 2011, 01:32:11 AM »
:D He is a huge improvement for the following reasons

1. 2 clean sheets this season.

2. Communicates better.Organises the defence better.

3. Great shot stopper....eg double save v Fulham excellent.(Carson would not have been up for the second shot...slower reactions).

4. He is an International keeper of good pedigree...never let England down.

5.He is very positive with what he does, makes a decision and goes with it.

I am very happy with him I would score him an 8 and Carson a 6.

Crikey mate. I've only noticed you around since the Baggies toured the US this summer. How many times have you been to The Hawthorns as a matter of interest?

I've followed them since Vic Buckingham was the manager but I doubt you've ever heard of him.

FYI that was over 50 years ago and he was the guy who nearly won us the League and Cup double in 1954 and went on to manage both Ajax and Barcelona.

He invented "Total Football" and was the guy who discovered Johan Cruyff.

I've seen many managers come and go and like to think I know a good one when I see one.

Gould, Little, Wylie were cr*p. Buckley poor.

Atkinson and Ardiles were Ok.

Megson, Hagan, Giles, Allen much better.

Roy is doing OK. There's far too much unnecessary negativity going on

Why do you think I should disagree with the management of this professional football club when the end of last season represented a long term high water mark?

To use your speak - please provide examples
;D You missed Alan Ashman in your list...he was a great manager!!

West Bromwich Albion FC / Re: Craig Dawson
« on: September 02, 2011, 05:39:01 AM »
:o Dawson will become a regular sooner than later....he has it all...21 is not too young.
(Bobby Hope played for Albion at 16, Asa Hartford was 17 on his debut).

He has got good vision, positional sense, enough physical strength. A big big bonus on set pieces.....could even make the top 4 or 5 highest goalscorers for Albion.

West Bromwich Albion FC / Re: The Internet
« on: September 01, 2011, 03:51:29 AM »
 ;D
The internet has been a wonderful thing.....

The access to live information about the happenings at the Albion has been glorious especially when I remember back to the bad old days of the 70, 80 & early 90s.

Being in Australia often it would be days before I could get scores let alone see highlights/replays  :(

Then the internet blossomed and streams, club websites and the best thing.... Forums, appeared so that I could interact with Baggies from around the World..... Good Times  :D

Sadly that is no longer the case....

Forums only now seem to exist to foster the malcontents of the world.... they moan and whine... and invent conspiracy theories etc etc

Here we are in the BEST condition as a club with one of the BEST squads, BEST Managers, BEST financial position, BEST stable ownership we have had in decades and all you seem to hear in thread after thread after thread is moan moan moan moan...

We spent money on players our manager wanted, we have moved on player who wanted to go, we extended contract on our core players....

We have in place a squad, which while still can be improved (what team can't?) is better than last seasons and more than cabable of being midtable by Christmas.

Yes it can be interesting to discuss the "negatives" about the Albion but not constantly...... repeating..... the same thing....... over and over....

it's sad how what should be such a positive place to come and discuss has fallen...............
;D Was a good point and I agree...but this is Albion, and as I have said before we are a funny race and always see the negatives of any situation.
I am sure that if we were 2nd in the Premiership ladder we would moan about not being 1st.
Nature of the Beast I'm afraid.
