General Football & Sports / Re: Sky TV v BT v Amazon Prime
« on: December 03, 2019, 04:19:47 PM »
Is tonight the 1st night for Amazon's football service on prime? Might try the months free trial to see what it's like.

it is, tonight, tomorrow and thursday this week for it.

think the other round they have is the boxing day/27th round of fixtures.

Wished we'd got this fully done , big clubs will be sniffing and Sporting by all accounts are difficult to deal with .
I'd just enjoy Pereira while we have him .

deals all sorted isn't it.

it's just on Albion to say when.

I can't see Stoke sacking their manager.
Perhaps they are broke and can't afford the payoff.

guessing they won't sack him until a replacement is sorted.
presuming the whole backroom would go as well and they don't have faith in any of that to be caretaker manager.

That's correct, we were also trying our damdest to get the fella who ended up at West Ham.  Would have been a great signing for us....Just a sub at West Ham.

Ajeti ?

he'll regret joining West Ham in a few years

Somehow, and still trying to figure out how we ended up in a pub called the queen Adelaide.
As we walked in we were greeted by a half full pub and no queues at the bar but was clearly a qpr home fans pub. This despite telling the 3 bouncers on the door we are looking for an away pub, telling them we are West Brom fans.
No idea why they suddenly just opened the doors to us but nonetheless no trouble and a decent pint. Not so sure about the £4 cost of a sausage roll but it was freshly made and packed with meat.

West Bromwich Albion FC / Goalkeeper kit

Any thoughts on the goalkeeper kit worn by Johnstone on Sunday ?

Think it's much better than the chosen home one, wonder if it will be for sale in the club shop or just a one off.

Not getting chance to see anything of this lad yet are we?
Hope we can get 3 up on Wednesday then lets have a look at him.

he should have played in the cup game instead of Burke.

unfortunately being out of the cup now limits how quick we get other players like Willock up to speed.

Ref was a disgrace today.

Bartley booked for a nothing foul if you could even call it a foul.

Callum McManaman commits 4 fouls 2 of which off the ball and gets nothing.
Luton player goes in studs high on Grady only gets a yellow.

Ref forgot to wear his Luton home shirt today.

i thought he didn't look that great on Saturday, maybe that could have been how the team were playing.

there is definitely a player in there for us in the future unlike Leko but i think he needs to be used sporadically this season to help his development.

the new loan players i can envisage taking his spot in the team.

interesting that the types of players that are defending Berahino / critising Johnson's comments yesterday are all players that themselves have been problems for clubs.

Simon Jordan just been on calling him and i quote 'a toxic runt'

seems everyone is laying into him today.

Shrewsbury for me. Don't think he'll start regularly for Charlton or Barnsley.

he'd walk into Charlton side. they have to replace Bielik who they had on loan last season in the DM role which is perfectly suited to Field.

Cheers mate.

I don't know, I think there are things there that have only fallen into the category of hearsay so far - it's frustrating that the locals can't / don't want to hold the clubs to account anymore, and won't put out an article such as this in favour of clickbait.

i think the club were very clever a few years ago when they appointed Swain and Lepkowski to roles within the club.
they were/are 2 very good journalists who would ask the right questions and be quite informative to us the fans.
the replacements for these 2 have been average at best and through this the club have been able to control a lot of information that gets out.
John Percy at the Telegraph is always bang on with what he reports on our club to the point you must think that he has some very good contacts within the club/game.
there is a guy at the Daily Mail whos name i can't remember who isn't as good as Percy but did break the Holgate deal day before it happened.
with how scared the local journos are to ask anything these days other than toeing the party line maybe the athletic could be one that does write the stories that do hold the club to account but time will tell.

I can't understand how Livermore is so ineffective for us when he has Spurs and England pedigree. Surely he should stand out in this division if not in the prem?

i think it's to do with the player himself.

look at players like Krovinovic and Sawyers on saturday, they wanted the ball all the time. that type of motivation in a player i don't see in Livermore, i think given half a chance he would leave.

West Bromwich Albion FC / Re: Salomon Rondon joins Dalian Yifang
« on: August 05, 2019, 08:58:37 AM »
As a matter of interest I was out with a die hard Newcastle fan over the weekend. He said that the reason why Rondon never went to Newcastle was because the agent wanted £7m for himself as commission and a £6m signing on fee for Salomon. That would bring the total transfer fee to nearer £30m - no wonder both they and West Ham walked away....I dont blame them.

Everything that is wrong with our beautiful game.

with how quickly Benitez went from Newcastle to China i would say that it had been in the works for weeks maybe even months.
Rondon's agent probably knew about this and knew what he could get out there so that is why he was asking for those sums.

his article on the segregation of the academy from first team is interesting. doesn't really tell us anything we don't already know but does start naming people behind the scenes.

wonder if the athletic will start stirring up some trouble in the journo world.

either way it's better than '5 things we learned' by the Birmingham Mail

man city are known for actually paying more for the youth players so they keep a good relationship with the clubs.

when you compare this to the likes of Liverpool who pay the bare minimum and then end up not progressing the careers of the players they take anyway.

I don't think Leko or Fitzwater will either.

I do think if there is one man that can get a tune out of Leko though it's Bilic.

the problem with Leko is that he doesn't have a brain. unfortunately you can't teach that.

we would lose him on a free at the end of next season.

he's already made it clear he wants to leave and play at higher level.

Jenkins will be looking at his spreadsheet and wanting some money to add in from the sale of Rondon.

Nixon saying anyone they want doesn’t fancy it.

Nixon knows a lot of what is going on within football and is very rarely wrong.

however when it comes to midlands football he is always wide of the mark for some reason.

he was adamant in January we were signing Giles Barnes for instance.

It's my ignorance, but I never knew we contributed so little to this amazing organisation after all those years in the prem.

It's quite embarrassing really.

maybe this is something the albion assembly could bring up (not sure if they do/have so apologies if they have).

surely something as simple as some collection buckets at every home game could be a start to helping them out as they do great work and are great representatives of the club.

GL has allegedly paid between £150 & £200 million for WBA, & he's just going to let that dwindle to nothing?

Next season, (assuming we don't get promoted) our parachute payment is allegedly around £7.5 million less than this season.
You would assume that means reducing the wage bill by a similar amount. On the other hand, I've read today, that Rondon has a £16.5 million release clause in his contract, if we can get that, it would be possible to retain all of our players on the same level of wages as they are now.
I  don't think next season is going to be a major financial problem to us, however, we have lost Richard Garlick, who was mainly responsible for sorting out contracts, & Simon Carrington who also was a major player in the finance department. I'm not sure what calibre of exec we've now got in those roles.
I believe it would be wrong to say that Mark Jenkins doesn't know how to run a football club. I've never met him. but those who have say he tends to be rather abrupt & offhand. I'm not sure he's a great people person, but I do think he's a good financial man.
Like Jeremy Peace, I would say he is risk averse, so he's more likely than not to take the safe option, but I certainly don't see us taking the gambles that have left Coventry & Bolton in their current predicaments

would you want to retain players that have failed us 2 seasons in a row ?

I think todays reports of Monk being a possibility are quite exciting. He's a good manager

i'd say that is Monks agent being creative and trying to get him a new deal
