man city are known for actually paying more for the youth players so they keep a good relationship with the clubs.

when you compare this to the likes of Liverpool who pay the bare minimum and then end up not progressing the careers of the players they take anyway.

I don't think Leko or Fitzwater will either.

I do think if there is one man that can get a tune out of Leko though it's Bilic.

the problem with Leko is that he doesn't have a brain. unfortunately you can't teach that.

we would lose him on a free at the end of next season.

he's already made it clear he wants to leave and play at higher level.

Jenkins will be looking at his spreadsheet and wanting some money to add in from the sale of Rondon.

Nixon saying anyone they want doesn’t fancy it.

Nixon knows a lot of what is going on within football and is very rarely wrong.

however when it comes to midlands football he is always wide of the mark for some reason.

he was adamant in January we were signing Giles Barnes for instance.

It's my ignorance, but I never knew we contributed so little to this amazing organisation after all those years in the prem.

It's quite embarrassing really.

maybe this is something the albion assembly could bring up (not sure if they do/have so apologies if they have).

surely something as simple as some collection buckets at every home game could be a start to helping them out as they do great work and are great representatives of the club.

GL has allegedly paid between £150 & £200 million for WBA, & he's just going to let that dwindle to nothing?

Next season, (assuming we don't get promoted) our parachute payment is allegedly around £7.5 million less than this season.
You would assume that means reducing the wage bill by a similar amount. On the other hand, I've read today, that Rondon has a £16.5 million release clause in his contract, if we can get that, it would be possible to retain all of our players on the same level of wages as they are now.
I  don't think next season is going to be a major financial problem to us, however, we have lost Richard Garlick, who was mainly responsible for sorting out contracts, & Simon Carrington who also was a major player in the finance department. I'm not sure what calibre of exec we've now got in those roles.
I believe it would be wrong to say that Mark Jenkins doesn't know how to run a football club. I've never met him. but those who have say he tends to be rather abrupt & offhand. I'm not sure he's a great people person, but I do think he's a good financial man.
Like Jeremy Peace, I would say he is risk averse, so he's more likely than not to take the safe option, but I certainly don't see us taking the gambles that have left Coventry & Bolton in their current predicaments

would you want to retain players that have failed us 2 seasons in a row ?

I think todays reports of Monk being a possibility are quite exciting. He's a good manager

i'd say that is Monks agent being creative and trying to get him a new deal

we are in a better position than Swansea and Stoke financially due to the flex down in contracts that halved the squad wages. add in we also took a good 250k off the wage bill with loans and Chadli going also.

one thing that has caused us issues is the previous chairman spent the money we had in the bank as well as the tv money so we had no money to fall back on.

the tv money and parachute payments is basically keeping us afloat at moment and no extra investment is needed, however in the summer money will need to be raised similar to the season where we saw Koumas and Kamara go for good money.

« on: March 14, 2019, 08:44:36 AM »
We were awful last night and I have no idea how we won the game, let alone 3-0, but sacking him remains the right decision.

we weren't great i'll admit, but we were better than we have been of late.

no more nonsesne of knocking the ball around the defence and back to the keeper (well until Barltey came on), more urgency in closing down the opposition from front 3 (still not great but an improvement), more urgency in getting the ball forward to the strikers which caused swansea a few issues mainly of there own doing and created some half chances.

it's frustration nothing more than that.

and to be honest i don't blame anyone fro being frustrated with what we are being served up currently.

all good and well the club and the now ex head coach asking the fans to get behind the team just like they did before Sheffield United at home, the atmosphere prior to kick off was brilliant then the backwards and sideways passing started.

Stoke considering sacking Saido Berahino for gross misconduct after he was charged with drink-driving having told them he was too ill to train

So much for Liam Lawrence take on it

Source: https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/sportsnews/article-6729339/Stoke-considering-sacking-Saido-Berahino-drink-driving-charge.html

taken from that article 'There are those close to Berahino who believe he is in need of pastoral care'

he needs a good kick up the backside and be shown what he is throwing away through childish behaviour.

yes he's had a tough upbringing unlike many, but unlike many he has the world at his feet with his job and money he can earn. p!ssing away any talent he had to have a good time.

They can't sack him apparently. Search former Stoke midfielder Liam Lawrence on Twitter.

that is hilarious on Stokes part tbf.

I've read of a couple of rumblings online which suggest they don't see eye to eye and it's having an effect in the dressing room. All completely uncorroborated of course but you just never know. If so then we could be posting about 'John Terry's Aston Villa' in the not too distant future.

would be the gift that keeps on giving

one of our best seasons in recent times was the season after we failed to go up, sold most of the existing squad and rebuilt the team that gave us excitment and enjoyment pretty much every week of the following season.

just wish he'd stop trying to win free kicks as often as he does, throws himself to ground far too easy it's embarassing at times.

West Bromwich Albion FC / Re: Who really wants promotion?
« on: January 21, 2019, 08:21:41 AM »
in two minds on this.

if we go up, great, we have had a successful season. but then we go into next season in survival mode. mediocre players that took us down end up staying on there high wages as well.

if we stay in the championship, some will see it as a failed season. i see it as a great chance for the club to rebuild much like we did in the promotion season under Mowbray. we sold players and rebuilt a whole squad for what was one of our most exciting and entertaining seasons for a long time.

the company i currently work for another discipline here did the feasibility study on the potential Halfords expansion.

when we moved offices a few months ago i've managed to find a copy of the drawings for this which show the stand would've gone over the road.

still have them in my drawer

I chuckled more at Dean Smith's post match comments. People moan about Big Dave's interviews. Smith sounded totally clueless to me, didn't seem to have any idea why things were going wrong or have any idea how he was going to improve things. "We've hit rock bottom now" or words to that effect was the best he could offer.

Smith was complaining about Wigan’s time wasting which was a bit rich coming from him

In a way it’s good he came on for Leicester as if Puel doesn’t like what he is seeing the only club he can then loan him out to again is us.

I have my doubts this would happen however

get Roy on the pitch at half time during our game with Middlesbrough

Sheff Utd signed Kieran dowell on loan from Everton on loan

Good signing , exactly the type of attacking midfielder we need

Rumour that if they don’t play him it will cost them more money than if they did play him.

Big risk seeing how the Woodburn loan deal has worked out for Sheff Utd so far.
