I will completely understand if Slaven chooses not to change a winning top of the table team but personally I'd bring Hegazi straight in. My team:

Furlong        Ajayi               Hegazi            Ferguson

                  Livermore        Sawyers

Phillips                 Pereira                          Diangana

Subs: Bond, Townsend, Bartley, Krovinovic, Edwards, Robson-Kanu, Zohore.

Gibbs will be on the bench ahead of Townsend though.

They did well against City last season. The way Wolves play suits playing the likes of Man City. Lesser clubs at home, for example, they tend to struggle against more. Huddersfield did the double over them last season.

I watched the Man Utd game earlier and they were woeful, easily being the worst Man Utd side in my lifetime.
It will take a long, long time until they can even start to think about being where they once were.

Great isn't it? Spurs are in a sharp decline also, even Man City have lost their aura of invincibility. Chelsea and Arsenal are decent but not outstanding. Now is a great time for "normal" clubs to be in the Premier League the top six is definitely achievable this season and someone could break into the top four.

Is top flight football finally getting back to how it should be and how it used to be? Is the playing field levelling out?

And all capable of being responsible for an error due to the position they play...that’s my point .
Very hard for Matt Phillips to be responsible for conceding a goal...
Easier for Bartley/ajayi/Hegazi, much easier for Johnstone

He's not good enough he makes too many costly errors. Ajayi may have been culpable for two or three goals this season, Bartley has been culpable for five or six - that is the difference. When you add up all those errors from last season as well it's obvious that Bartley is not consistently good enough to be a starter in a team challenging for the top two.

In the nicest possible way....that’s rubbish on 2 points

1) he’s been very good this season, there will always be an error because he’s a defender and he’s not at Juventus

Ahmed Hegazi is a defender who doesn't make the errors he does, he isn't at Juventus
Semi Ajayi is a defender who doesn't make the errors he does, he isn't at Juventus
Nathan Ferguson is a defender who doesn't make the errors he does, he isn't at Juventus

Suspension is the most likely scenario if he keeps taking one for the team and the corresponding yellow card

Interestingly Jake has only picked up one booking this season. Sawyers has most bookings, 4.

With the dust settled, me having sobered up and having time to look back at footage of the game I have concerns about the goals we conceded. On another day that might cost us.

First one, there is a mix up in midfield but Ajayi and Bartley just don't deal with the runner at all. There has to be communication here, Bartley has to be yelling to Ajayi to go with the man, Bartley has the better overall view of the situation. Ajayi just doesn't seem to know what to do he just stands there and does nothing. Bartley, sensing that Ajayi is not set to cover the run has to get across quicker, instead he sort of ambles across. Poor defending all round.

Second one, free header from a corner. That is never good enough. Ajayi appears to be the closest man to the goalscorer, though the camera angle isn't the best.

I know we will concede goals but in a game like yesterday, 3-0 up at home and the much better side, it shouldn't be happening. One, OK but not two, we nearly threw away a game we'd got won.

Given the nature of the goals we conceded I believe we lost our focus once the third goal went in, lost our mental sharpness. Something that needs addressing moving forward and I'm sure Slaven's had a word or two.

I thought he was really good yesterday and started to think last night who would replace him if injured or suspended. I’m not sure what the obvious player would be without Sam Field in the squad.

I don’t think it could be Brunt, Harper is out the team by a distance. Maybe Barry if he has any games left in him?

I've wondered about that as well. We don't seem to have a like for like replacement, Sam Field would've been the obvious one. I hope Jake stays fit and in form because he plays an important role and I think it could have an affect on the team if he's missing.

I think Barry would be ideal cover for Sawyers more so than Livermore and I could see Krovinovic covering for Romaine as well.

Brunt doesn't have the legs and Harper I just don't think is that good.

If I was Slaven I'd be bringing Field back in January and sending Harper out on loan. But what do I know? lol.

For the record:

Attendance: 25,140
Home: 23,155
Away: 1,985

Largest gate of the season, most home fans of the season, most away fans also.

I thought he was terrific today. Best performance for the club.

Great result again.

I actually didn't think we played all that great but we have goals in us all over the pitch. Thought we started sloppily for the first ten mins or so then improved then went sloppy start of the second half before losing our focus once we scored the third goal. I'm sure there will be aspects of the performance Slaven won't be happy about.

Having said the above, we were clearly the better side. Great to see Austin break his duck, when the keeper pulled off that save with his foot first half you just thought someone had put a jinx on Charlie but the took his goal well. Livermore and Sawyers had their best games for us today I thought and Pereira is absolutely awesome.

We are the Albion, we're top of the league.  8)

How many tickets do we have in home sections mate ? Roughly 23,700? If u took out the 2800 in the away section ?

Approx. 23,500 ignoring restricted view seats which only go on sale for sell outs really. There are 204 seats at the front of the East Stand not used now due to extra advertising.

Saturday morning update:

Smethwick:         Sold Out
West Stand:        25
Brummie Road:   391
East Stand:         187

Remaining:   603
Sold:  22,800+

Looking likely to break the 23,000 barrier for home support today for the first time this season. Estimated total gate of around 25,000.

Wonder why we’ve only given them 2000 instead of the 2800 full away allocation . Really don’t think it’s down to the police as they really aren’t that bothered anymore. Maybe the advert in the stand is worth more then the 800 tickets  :D

Yep that's what it is. Jenkins (I think) decided it was more cost effective to have that advertising and cut the away allocation.

West Bromwich Albion FC / Re: Jonathan Leko (on loan at Charlton)
« on: October 04, 2019, 08:53:10 AM »
One point here, Leko is NOT lightening quick. He's not slow by any means but he's not blistering either, he wouldn't be as quick as Matt Phillips or Semi Ajayi nor probably Kyle Edwards and he certainly isn't as quick as Oliver Burke.

Hopefully he can perform well enough at Charlton for someone to come in and make us a decent offer. He will never be good enough for us unless we become a mid-lower Championship club IMO.

Fantastic performance Premier League teams wouldn't dominate  Leeds like we did.  its a loss but it happens. Bring on Cardiff.

Chatting to my Spurs reporter mate who watched the game the weekend.  He reckoned Pereira was head and shoulders above everyone else on the pitch and should be playing top half in the Prem.

I agree with him. He's the most naturally gifted player we've had for a long time.

West Bromwich Albion FC / Re: Chris Willock (on loan from Benfica)
« on: September 30, 2019, 07:47:26 AM »
Has anybody seen this lad play for the U21s since he joined? The way it's going he will go back to Benficas B side in January because he can't even get near the squad at the moment.

I saw him play in the U23's v Sunderland. We won 6-0 and he scored two of the goals. Despite his two goals, both of which you's expect him to score, he had an average game and I certainly saw nothing to suggest he should be involved in the first team squad at the moment. That's only one game obviously and it's best not to judge someone on just one game.

Seriously what a player this guy is, that pass to Livermore first half was world class.

It truly was, he didn't even seem to look up, that vision was literally world class.

Young Nathan got all the headlines, which is fine, but for me Pereira was MOTM. Class.

Just to warn you all it’s my first Hawthorns visit of the season. My last game was Ipswich and I’m still to see a win since 2006!

Oh fanfkintastic! Bugger off to Villa Park instead.

Make no mistake about it this is the toughest game of the season so far and arguably the toughest fixture we will face all season. I know Leeds are stuttering a bit at the moment but they are still an extremely good side with pace and energy all over the team.

If we come away from Elland Road with a point it'll be a good result.

Six days until kick off.

Last Season: N/A

Smethwick          Sold Out
West Stand         319
Brummie Road    1,359
East Stand          1,126

Remaining:  2,804
Sold:  20,600 +

Cardiff:  Sold Out

Cardiff are the first away team this season to sell out at the Hawthorns. Given it's a Saturday 3pm kick off and given our form I would be expecting us to be challenging for our best home attendance of the season particularly if we win at Leeds on Tuesday night.

West Bromwich Albion FC / Re: Nathan Ferguson
« on: September 29, 2019, 07:59:40 AM »
I'm probably getting a bit carried away with this lads performances but I have never seen a fullback at the Albion with so much potential, nobody and I mean nobody goes past him and he is even playing on the left,as much as like Daniel Furnell he cannot defend as good as this kid,and if Ferguson switches to rightback he would be even more confident coming forward

Todd Kane did once first half and the substitute did once second half. Lets not get things out of perspective.

The lad is an extremely talented player and defensively he's solid as a rock, you don't worry when someone takes him on because you know 9 times out of 10 Fergie will see them off.

BUT he's 18 lets not get carried away with him, things can turn very quickly at that age.

People comparing him to Statham are being unfair on the lad. Statham to this day is still the best left back I've ever seen.
